Yes—inspect the television before you sign whenever the delivery terms permit it. Inspect and photograph the carton before signing
Take photos of every side of the unopened carton before moving it. Include dents, punctures, crushed corners, water marks, torn tape, shipping labels, and the model and serial-number label. Use wide shots that show the whole box and close-ups that make each defect legible. Keep the driver present while you inspect whenever the service permits it.

Match the shipping label to your order
Compare the carton label and your confirmation line by line. Verify the model number, diagonal size, color, tuner or regional version, and quantity. A similar-looking model can have different ports, broadcast support, software, or included hardware. Samsung’s US TV policy tells customers to inspect for damage or defects before accepting; if damage is found, notify the driver or refuse delivery under the applicable delivery terms.
When to refuse and when to sign with a note
Refuse the delivery when the carton is severely crushed, punctured through the display area, soaked, or otherwise suggests likely internal damage and the carrier allows refusal. If refusal is not available, write the visible damage on the delivery record before signing and photograph the notation. Do not sign a clean receipt when the box clearly shows impact or water damage.
Open the box safely and inspect the panel
- Keep the carton upright and follow the opening arrows. Do not cut deeply into the box; a knife can reach the bezel or screen.
- With the television still supported by the carton or foam, remove only the packaging needed to view the front, rear, edges, and corners.
- Under bright, even light, inspect the panel and bezel for cracks, scratches, pressure marks, dark blotches, impact points, frame separation, bent metal, or gaps between the screen and frame.
- Check the rear casing, connector area, stand-mount points, and cable covers for broken or displaced parts.
- Photograph the complete set, the internal foam and bags, the serial/model label, and every defect before installation.
Do not press the screen to test it. Pressure can create damage that was not present when you opened the carton, and an unsupported large panel can flex or fall. If the screen is cracked or damaged when first opened, LG’s US guidance directs the customer to contact the retailer for warranty service rather than treating it as an ordinary setup issue.

Remove only the intended protective film
Many televisions ship with a clearly marked front film, but not every layer on a display is removable. Sony warns that removing a layer other than the intended protective film can permanently damage the television. Use the model’s illustrated instructions and peel only a layer that is clearly identified as shipping film. If you cannot identify a layer, leave it in place and ask the retailer or manufacturer before pulling it.

Power on before wall-mounting
Once the set is supported on a stable surface, connect power and perform a short check. You are not trying to complete every smart-TV setup; you are looking for obvious shipping or manufacturing faults while the return process is easiest.
- Press the power button and confirm that the panel illuminates and reaches the startup screen.
- View a built-in setup screen, menu, or supplied demo image. Look for broad dark areas, obvious lines, severe non-uniformity, or a section that never lights.
- Raise the volume briefly and confirm that the speakers produce clear sound without cutting out.
- Check the remote for power, navigation, volume, and input commands. Install the supplied batteries if they are included.
- Record a continuous short video of any fault. Include the television’s model and serial label in a separate photo so the retailer can match the evidence to the order.
Do not transport the set while it is powered, and do not mount it until the basic picture and sound check has passed. A wall installation can make a damaged panel harder to exchange and may complicate responsibility for installation-related damage.
Test the ports you will actually use
Official policies require inspection and evidence but do not prescribe one universal port-test sequence. Follow the model manual and test the connections needed for your planned setup with known-good cables or devices. A port that you never need does not have to be exhaustively configured, but discovering a failed required input after mounting creates avoidable work.

Check every accessory against the model’s packing list
Accessory bundles vary by model and region, so the exact packing list in the manual or manufacturer support page controls. Samsung’s US TV return policy gives the remote, stand, power cord, One Connect Box, mounting hardware, and product manual as examples of components that must be included. Depending on the model, also check the feet, stand screws, adapters, batteries, warranty card, and quick-start material.

Photograph an empty compartment or an opened accessory bag if something is missing. Keep every bag, tie, foam block, and label with the carton until the exchange or return period has ended.
Document a problem and notify the correct party
- Stop installation when you find a crack, impact mark, wrong model, missing component, or failed required connection.
- Photograph the defect, the whole television, the carton and internal protection, the serial/model label, and the order label.
- Write the problem on the delivery record when possible. Ask the driver or delivery service to acknowledge the notation.
- Contact the retailer through the order channel immediately and request the remedy offered for damage, mismatch, or missing parts.
- Keep the television unmounted and repackable. Do not discard the carton or alter the panel while waiting for instructions.

Who handles shipping damage, and how fast?
The retailer’s delivery, exchange, and return policy controls transit damage. Manufacturer warranties may cover defects that appear during normal use while excluding damage that happened during shipping, delivery, or installation. The carton looks perfect but the screen is cracked
Photograph the panel, carton, foam, and label before moving anything. Do not power-cycle repeatedly or attempt a repair. Contact the retailer immediately and describe that the damage was discovered on first opening.
The driver will not wait while you inspect
Follow the delivery terms rather than arguing at the door. Photograph the sealed carton and labels, note the time and any visible condition, then open and test the television as soon as possible. Use the shortest deadline in the order’s policy if damage appears.

Repeat the test once with a known-good cable and source, verify the correct input and settings, and record the result. If the failure remains, stop mounting and report it as a functional defect with the model and serial number.

An accessory is missing
Compare the contents with the exact model’s packing list rather than a generic unboxing video. Photograph the box compartments and contact the retailer for the missing part or exchange instructions. Do not buy a substitute until compatibility and responsibility are clear.
The set works, but the frame has a dent
Document cosmetic and structural damage even if the picture is currently normal. A dent can indicate hidden impact, and accepting installation may make later responsibility harder to establish.
Keep a complete evidence package until the case closes
- Photos of all carton sides, labels, seals, foam, bags, and the complete television.
- Close-ups of every crack, scratch, dent, missing item, error message, or failed connection.
- A short video showing startup, the fault, and—when relevant—the cable and input selected.
- The order confirmation, delivery record, installer paperwork, and policy deadline.
- All packaging, accessories, and serial-number information.
Only discard packaging after the retailer or manufacturer confirms that no return, exchange, or inspection is required and the applicable window has expired.
