Before buying a token, search for its exact contract or mint address, then inspect the specific pools where it trades, their liquidity and activity, and the largest holders. These figures describe particular markets and wallets—not a guarantee that you can sell at a given price or that the token is safe.
1. Find the exact token, not just its name
Token names and tickers can be reused. Start with the contract address or, on Solana, the mint address, and confirm that the explorer or analytics page shows the expected chain and token. DEX Screener says a token appears in its listings after it has been added to a liquidity pool and at least one transaction has occurred. That is a listing condition, not an endorsement or quality check.

A token may trade in multiple pools, across different pairs or automated market makers. Open the market or pool view for each venue that matters; do not assume one page represents the token’s entire market. Record the chain, AMM, pair, quote asset, and whether the displayed figures cover one pool or an aggregate.

For each pool, note its estimated total value locked (TVL), token and quote-asset balances if shown, and recent trading volume. Solscan’s market pages document pool-specific balances, estimated TVL, 24-hour volume, transactions, and liquidity positions. TVL and volume answer different questions. TVL is an estimate of assets in the selected pool; volume measures trading over a period. Neither one by itself tells you what price you will receive for a trade of your intended size. Treat the pool and pair shown as the scope of every figure.

3. Judge activity across time, not from one snapshot
Compare volume over matching time windows, and use historical charts when available. A single 24-hour reading can conceal whether trading is steady or concentrated in a short burst. Look at the number of transactions or traders alongside volume where the page provides them; activity spread across more participants gives a different picture from the same volume generated by a small number of trades.

4. Read holder concentration with wallet identity in mind
Review the largest holders and their shares of supply, then check address labels and wallet information where available. Solscan’s holder analytics include concentration views, wallet depth, holder tiers, wallet tags, and holder trends. Its documentation cautions that top addresses can include exchanges, liquidity pools, treasury wallets, or other ecosystem addresses—not only individual investors: Solscan token holder analytics.
A high top-holder share can indicate that a small number of addresses have substantial influence, but the raw ranking needs interpretation. A pool or exchange address may represent funds held for many users; a treasury or team-controlled wallet has a different significance. Labels help, but do not assume that every address is identified or that a label proves who controls it.

Do not treat holder count as a measure of meaningful ownership depth. Many wallets can hold very small balances. Consider the distribution of balances and holder trends as well as the headline count and largest-holder percentages.
5. Check whether liquidity is actually available at the current price
Some pools use concentrated liquidity or bin-based designs, where liquidity providers allocate funds to specific price ranges. In those markets, inspect individual positions and whether they are in range. An out-of-range position may not be active for trades at the current price, even if a pool page reports liquidity or TVL. 6. Compare tokens or pools on equal terms
When comparing candidates, use the same chain and comparable pool scope and time windows. A practical comparison records:
- Market scope: chain, AMM, pair, quote asset, and whether figures are for a single pool or aggregated markets.
- Liquidity: estimated TVL and pool balances; for range-based markets, whether relevant positions are in range.
- Activity: volume across matching periods, plus traders or transactions where available, and whether activity persists over time.
- Ownership: largest-holder shares, wallet depth, holder trends, and any known labels for large addresses.
- Data context: the source page and the time you viewed it, since market and holder figures can change.
There is no universal safe cutoff for liquidity, volume, or holder concentration established by these sources. The metrics help describe a token’s markets and ownership; they do not predict future demand, guarantee an executable price, or establish that buying is safe.
