Look for the notice, rejection reason, or order connected with your application or proceeding. Audit and some enforcement records can instead be filed under Additional Notices and Orders or a category-specific Notices folder. For a demand order in the documented SPL-02 workflow, portal-issued orders appear in a selection list; an offline or manual order that is not listed must be entered with its reference number and date. If the expected record is missing, use Services > User Services > Contact to identify the jurisdictional officer.
What the GST portal route can—and cannot—tell you
The GST portal does not use one universal screen for every notice, proceeding, or order. The documented route Services > User Services > View Notices and orders is specifically described in official troubleshooting guidance for viewing a registration-application rejection reason. Other proceedings can use different category labels and folders.

That distinction matters when you are searching for a “GST notice status.” A record may be filed under the general notices-and-orders area, under an additional-notices area, or inside a notice folder associated with a particular process. The available filters, status labels, date controls, and download options are not established as identical for every notice type. Treat the route below as a reliable starting point, then follow the category shown for your proceeding.
Before you sign in
- Have the GST portal credentials for the taxpayer or the authorized user responsible for the relevant GSTIN.
- If you are dealing with a registration application in the TRN-based workflow, keep the relevant temporary reference number (TRN) available. The official troubleshooting procedure describes login with a TRN for that scenario.
- Keep the GSTIN, application reference, notice reference, or order number from any email, letter, or SMS. A reference helps you distinguish similarly named records.
- Know which matter you are checking: registration, audit, demand, summons, or another proceeding. The portal may place each in a different folder.
Open the notices-and-orders area
- Open the official GST portal and select the taxpayer login appropriate to your account.
- Sign in with the credentials associated with the taxpayer or, where applicable, the TRN-based registration workflow.
- From the main navigation, choose
Services. - Open
User Services. - Select
View Notices and orders. - Review the records shown for the relevant application or proceeding. Open the item that matches the GSTIN, reference number, subject, or date shown in your records.
The wording and screen sequence can vary by service. The cited troubleshooting material supports this path for a registration rejection reason; it does not establish that every taxpayer, login type, or notice category uses exactly the same page.

When the record is a registration rejection reason
For a registration application, the notice or rejection explanation may be attached to the application record rather than presented as a general demand order. Use the application or TRN details to identify the correct entry. If the reason is not visible even though the application indicates a rejection, proceed to the jurisdictional-officer contact route described below.
Check category-specific folders
If nothing relevant appears in the first list, check the additional-notices areas used by the service that issued the communication. Official GST functionality notes use several related labels, including Additional Notices and Orders, View Additional Notices and orders, and a Notices folder. These labels should be treated as category-dependent navigation, not as interchangeable names for one universal page.
Audit notices and reports
Audit-related notices and reports may be placed under Additional Notices and Orders. Return to the services area, open the additional-notices option if it is displayed for your account, and inspect the audit-related entry. The existence of that category does not mean every audit document will be listed in the same way or that every document will have an identical download action.

For a notice-to-summon path, official functionality documentation describes the route View Additional Notices and orders > Notices. If your proceeding involves a summons or a notice that led to one, inspect the Notices folder within that additional-notices area rather than relying only on the general list.
Other enforcement or proceeding notices
Use the subject, issuing office, and reference number on the communication to choose the closest category. The portal materials do not provide a complete, current list of every status label, date-range filter, or file-download behavior for all categories, so do not assume that an empty general list proves that no notice exists.
Find a demand order: portal-issued versus manual
A demand order can be handled differently depending on how it was issued. The clearest documented distinction appears in the SPL-02 filing workflow. That workflow is specific to the SPL-02 process; it is not proof that the same selection screen is a universal order-search tool for every GST proceeding.
| Demand-order situation | What the SPL-02 workflow shows | What you enter or verify |
|---|---|---|
| Order issued through the GST portal | The order can be available in a selectable list within the filing process. | Select the matching order from the list and verify that the reference and date correspond to your communication. |
| Order issued offline or manually | The order may not be present in the portal’s selectable list. | Choose Manual entry, then enter the order reference number and order date as stated on the offline order. |
How to use the distinction
- Open the SPL-02 filing process relevant to your case.
- When the form asks you to identify the demand order, first inspect the available selection list.
- If the correct portal-issued order is listed, select it and check the displayed details against the order you received.
- If an offline or manual order is absent, choose Manual entry.
- Type the reference number and order date exactly as printed on the order. Check punctuation, prefixes, and date format before proceeding.
- Continue only after confirming that the selected or entered order is the one connected with your case.
This process tells you how to identify a demand order for SPL-02. It does not establish a general facility to search every historical order, nor does it guarantee that an order PDF will always be available from that form.

What to do when the notice or order is missing
An empty list can have several explanations: the document may belong to another category, the record may be tied to a different login or application reference, or the communication may have been issued offline. Work through these checks before assuming the notice was never issued.
1. Recheck the account and reference
- Confirm that you signed in for the correct taxpayer and GSTIN.
- For a registration matter, verify the TRN or application reference used for the submission.
- Compare the notice number, order number, and date on your letter or email with the record you are opening.
2. Inspect the additional-notices route
Return to Services > User Services and look for Additional Notices and Orders or View Additional Notices and orders. Open the relevant Notices folder when it is shown. This is particularly important for audit and notice-to-summon matters.
3. Consider whether the order was manual
If you are preparing SPL-02 and the demand order does not appear in the list, use the documented Manual entry option and transcribe the reference number and date from the offline order. Do not substitute a different order merely because its description looks similar.
4. Contact the jurisdictional officer
For the registration-rejection issue covered by the official troubleshooting guidance, the escalation route is Services > User Services > Contact. Use that page to find the jurisdictional officer and ask about the missing notice or rejection reason. Include the GSTIN, application or TRN, notice or order reference, and the date shown on your communication so the officer can identify the matter.
5. Preserve the evidence you already have
Keep the original email, letter, SMS, or offline order, along with the reference and communication date. A portal absence does not erase a document served through another channel, and the manual-order path specifically depends on the reference and date printed on the order.
How to interpret “status” without overreading the screen
The portal may show a record, a reason, or an order-selection entry without presenting a single standardized status vocabulary across all services. Do not infer that an item is dismissed, complied with, or ready for appeal solely because it appears—or does not appear—in one list. Read the notice or order itself, including its issue date, communication date, directions, and any response or payment instructions.
Likewise, the available screen may differ between a registration application, an audit notice, a summons-related notice, and a demand-order filing. The official materials do not establish one universal set of filters or a guaranteed download button for all of them.
If you may appeal a demand order
The official FAQ for filing an appeal in FORM GST APL-01 gives a general period of three months from communication of the decision or order. It also describes a possible condonation period of up to one additional month when the stated conditions are met. These are general FAQ timings, not a substitute for calculating the deadline for your specific order.
Use the communication date and the directions in the order, then verify the applicable law and deadline for your case. If the date, service method, limitation period, or grounds are disputed, obtain qualified tax or legal advice promptly rather than waiting for the portal record to change.
Common mistakes and their fixes
| Mistake | Why it causes trouble | Better approach |
|---|---|---|
| Searching only the general notices page | Audit or summons-related records may be under an additional-notices category. | Check Additional Notices and Orders, View Additional Notices and orders, and the relevant Notices folder. |
| Assuming every order is selectable | An offline/manual demand order may not be uploaded to the list used by SPL-02. | Use Manual entry and copy the order reference and date exactly. |
| Treating the route as universal | The documented general route is specifically evidenced for a registration rejection scenario. | Use the route as a starting point and follow the category shown for your proceeding. |
| Relying on an absent PDF or status label | Download behavior and status vocabulary are not established as uniform across categories. | Read the communication you received and ask the jurisdictional officer when the portal record is incomplete. |
| Waiting to contact the officer | An appeal or response deadline can run from communication of the order, not from the moment a portal screen becomes visible. | Record the communication date and escalate through Services > User Services > Contact without delaying any applicable response. |
A practical decision path
- Need a registration notice or rejection reason? Sign in and open
Services > User Services > View Notices and orders, using the relevant TRN or application details. - Looking for an audit or summons-related communication? Inspect Additional Notices and Orders and then the displayed Notices folder.
- Preparing SPL-02 for a demand order? Select a matching portal-issued order from the list, or choose Manual entry for an offline order and provide its reference and date.
- Still cannot locate the record or reason? Verify the GSTIN and references, retain the communication you received, and use
Services > User Services > Contactto identify the jurisdictional officer. - Considering an appeal? Work from the order’s communication date and verify the applicable deadline; the general APL-01 FAQ describes three months, with a possible one-month condonation period under stated conditions.
Match the portal entry to your document
When several notices are visible, match more than the title. Compare the GSTIN, application or proceeding reference, issuing office, order or notice number, and the date printed on the communication. A similar description is not enough to establish that two records are the same. For a registration application, the TRN or application reference is especially useful because the rejection explanation can be attached to that application rather than displayed as a standalone demand order.
For an audit or summons matter, start with the folder that corresponds to the communication type and then read the document itself. The labels Additional Notices and Orders, View Additional Notices and orders, and Notices describe navigation points that may be shown differently by service. Do not treat a label’s presence as proof that every document in the proceeding has been uploaded.

Write down when you first received the notice or order, how it was communicated, and the reference number. The communication date can matter even when the portal entry is delayed, missing, or difficult to download. If a response, payment, or appeal may be required, preserve the original email, letter, SMS, or manual order and work from the directions in that document.
The general FORM GST APL-01 FAQ refers to three months from communication of the decision or order and a possible condonation period of up to one additional month when its conditions are satisfied. That general statement does not calculate your deadline. Confirm the applicable rule for the particular order and obtain professional advice where limitation, service, or the date of communication is disputed.
What to include when escalating a missing record
Use Services > User Services > Contact to identify the jurisdictional officer for the registration-rejection issue described in the troubleshooting guidance. Make the query easy to trace: provide the GSTIN, taxpayer name, TRN or application reference where relevant, notice or order number, issue and communication dates, and a short description of the screen or folder you checked.
Rank #4
State whether you looked in the general notices area, Additional Notices and Orders, and the relevant Notices folder. If the matter is an SPL-02 filing, explain whether the order was expected to be portal-issued or was supplied offline and whether you attempted Manual entry. Keep a copy of the communication and your request so you can show what information was available if the matter remains unresolved.
