To change the greeting callers hear, open the Samsung Phone app, tap Keypad, then touch and hold 1 to call voicemail. Follow your mobile carrier’s recorded prompts to find the personal greeting or recorded-name option. The exact menu and keypad choices vary by carrier; Samsung does not provide one universal sequence.
Change the greeting by calling voicemail
- Open Phone and tap Keypad.
- Touch and hold 1. If your keypad shows a voicemail icon instead, you can tap it to call voicemail.
- Enter your mailbox password if prompted.
- Listen for the option to change your personal greeting or recorded name, then follow the spoken instructions. Menu wording and key numbers depend on your carrier, so listen to the prompts rather than relying on a fixed number.
- Record the new greeting when asked, then confirm or save it as the system directs. End the call when finished.

What if voicemail is not set up yet?
Use the first-time setup prompts after calling voicemail. The carrier’s system may ask you to create a mailbox password and record a greeting and name before you can use the mailbox. If setup does not complete or you cannot access voicemail, contact your carrier for assistance.
Can you change it in Visual Voicemail?
If your carrier provides a Visual Voicemail app, open it and check its settings or mailbox options for greeting controls. App names, icons, and available features vary by carrier; Samsung does not document a universal on-screen path for editing a greeting, and not every carrier app necessarily offers that control.

If there is no greeting option
- Listen through the full voicemail menu; greeting settings may be grouped under personal options or mailbox setup.
- Check the carrier’s Visual Voicemail app, if you have one, for a greeting or mailbox setting.
- Ask the mobile carrier whether voicemail is enabled on your line and how its system handles greeting changes. Carrier support is the appropriate next step when the option is missing or voicemail access fails.
Samsung Direct voicemail is a different feature
Samsung Direct voicemail is not the general carrier mailbox greeting editor. Samsung documents it for Galaxy phones running Android 16 with One UI 8.5 or higher. Its setting is Phone > More options > Settings > Direct voicemail. It routes calls to voicemail and has separate limits: the phone must be on and connected to the mobile network, it does not work for video calls, and nearly full internal storage can affect it.
