You can change a UPI PIN you know in the settings for that bank account; if you’ve forgotten it, use the app’s reset flow and complete the bank’s verification. Changing the linked bank account is a separate process, and your daily payment ceiling is generally governed by your bank and the type of transaction—not a single editable setting.

The steps below cover Google Pay specifically. Other UPI apps may use different menus and verification methods, so check your app and bank for their current instructions.

How do I change my UPI PIN?

In Google Pay, changing a known PIN requires the current PIN. The UPI PIN is associated with the bank account, and Google Pay says an existing PIN for that account can be used in the app. A PIN may be four or six digits, depending on the bank account.

How do I reset my UPI PIN if I forgot it?

Use the reset option rather than the change option. In Google Pay, go to Profile picture > Bank account > [account] > Forgot UPI PIN, then follow the verification prompts. Google Pay’s help page says a reset requires debit-card or Aadhaar details. Aadhaar verification is available only if the bank supports it; the Aadhaar must be linked to the same registered mobile number.

You cannot complete the reset without the verification required for that account. If the app offers only debit-card verification, use the card linked to that bank account and enter the requested details. Google Pay Help: Set up a UPI PIN.

How do I change the bank account linked to Google Pay?

Google Pay’s instructions say to remove the existing account and add it again to update it. This is separate from changing a UPI PIN.

  1. Open Google Pay and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap Bank account and select the account to remove.
  3. Tap More > Remove account.
  4. If that account has active autopay or UPI Lite associations, unlink those first.
  5. Return to Bank account, choose Add bank account, select a supported bank and account, and complete the verification offered.

Account discovery and verification depend on the registered mobile number, the bank’s support, and a working outgoing SMS from the registered SIM. Google Pay documents debit-card verification and, where the bank allows it, Aadhaar-based verification. PhonePe’s separate published instructions use bank selection, card details, and an OTP sent to the registered number; that is a PhonePe-specific flow, not a universal UPI procedure. What is my UPI daily limit?

There is no single daily limit that applies to every bank account and payment type, and you should not assume you can raise it in the app. Google Pay’s help page, accessed 2026-10-04, lists standard person-to-person (P2P) thresholds of up to ₹1 lakh from one bank account in the last 24 hours, 20 successful payments in the last 24 hours, and 150 successful payments in the last 30 days. The page says banks set these limits across UPI apps; a bank may set a lower ceiling. The figures are provider-published guidance, not a guarantee for every account, transaction, or future date. Google Pay Help: Standard UPI transaction limits.

Google Pay also says higher caps can apply to specified verified merchant categories. Those provisions do not mean the same limit applies to person-to-person transfers or every merchant payment. Check the applicable category and your bank’s rules before relying on a higher ceiling.

Google Pay’s displayed bank table illustrates that bank figures can differ: for State Bank of India, it lists a ₹100,000 transaction limit and ₹100,000 daily limit; for India Post Payment Bank, it lists ₹25,000 per transaction and ₹50,000 per day. These are amounts displayed in Google Pay’s provider-published table, accessed 2026-10-04; confirm current limits directly with your bank. Google Pay Help: UPI issuing bank wise limits.

If a UPI payment is declined

  • Read the reason displayed in the app before retrying.
  • Check your bank’s current amount and transaction-count limits for that payment type.
  • Consider how many successful payments you have made in the relevant period.
  • Check whether the payment is P2P or to an eligible verified merchant, since the applicable ceiling may differ.
  • Contact the bank if its limit, account status, or a temporary restriction is unclear. A different linked account may have a different limit, but switching accounts is not guaranteed to resolve a decline.
