To change your smartwatch wallpaper, change its watch face—the design that displays the time and may include a background, colors, and small information fields called complications or widgets. “Wallpaper” usually means the face’s background, and it is not a universal menu label. First identify your watch’s brand and model; whether you can use a personal photo depends on the watch and the face you select.
What you can personalize
A watch face is more than a background image. Depending on the face and device, you may be able to choose a preset design, change its colors or style, add complications or widgets, or use a photo. Complications are small fields that can show information or provide shortcuts. Not every face offers every control, and personal-photo support is not universal.

For example, Google describes Wear OS faces as a way to show glanceable information as well as the time. The available choices still depend on the watch and its software. Google’s overview of Wear OS personalization provides background on that approach.
Change the face on an Apple Watch
You can browse and customize faces in the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, or select and customize a face directly on the watch. The Face Gallery is the browsing route Apple documents; the controls available depend on the face.

Garmin offers preinstalled faces, additional faces through Connect IQ, and Face It, which uses personal photos to create a face. A typical route to a preinstalled face begins at Settings > Watch Face, but Garmin says steps vary by watch, so use the manual for your model as the authority.

What if your watch has no wallpaper or photo option?
Check the face and device before concluding the watch cannot be personalized. A photo option may be available only for certain faces or models, and the relevant setting may be called a watch face rather than wallpaper.
- Confirm the watch’s exact model and software family.
- Try another face; customization controls are face-specific.
- Look in both the watch’s face controls and its companion app, where supported.
- Use the manufacturer’s support instructions for that exact model, especially for older product families.
If the model’s official instructions do not list personal-photo support, do not assume a third-party app can add it. The manufacturer’s documentation establishes that Garmin offers Face It for photo faces, Apple documents its Photos face, and the cited general Wear OS and Samsung instructions describe face customization without establishing photo support for every device.
