A password change does not guarantee that every active session ends; the available controls vary by site.
Change the password or reset it if you’re locked out
Start in the retailer’s official app or type its known website address yourself. Avoid unexpected links in password-reset messages or security alerts. If you can sign in, use the account’s password or security settings to change the password. If you cannot sign in, use the retailer’s official “Forgot password” flow instead.

Choose a password you have not used on another account. eBay recommends a different username and password combination for every site you visit (eBay Security Center). A password manager can help you keep unique passwords.

For a signed-in Walmart account, go to Account → Personal info → Password → Edit. Enter the current password, choose a new password that you have not used before, and save it. Walmart’s stated requirements are at least eight characters, with uppercase and lowercase letters and at least one number or special character; these are Walmart’s rules, not a universal standard (Walmart password help).

If you have forgotten the password, use Walmart’s reset flow and verify through the email code it requests. Walmart says that code expires after 30 minutes (Walmart reset help).
eBay
For a known password, go to My eBay → Sign in and security, then select Edit beside Password. Enter your current and new passwords and submit. If you cannot sign in, eBay’s reset process may verify your identity by email or text. If you use the eBay app, sign in there again with the new password. eBay says that more than five password changes within 24 hours triggers a 24-hour wait, so avoid repeated retries if a change is not working (eBay password help).

Etsy
Etsy’s account-compromise guidance directs users to Account settings → Password to change or reset a password. If you suspect fraud, Etsy also recommends enabling two-factor authentication (Etsy compromised-account guidance).
Review sessions and sign out unfamiliar devices
Signing out on your current phone or computer usually signs out that client; it is not the same action as ending a session on another device. After changing or resetting the password, look for Sign-in history, Devices, or Active sessions under the retailer’s account or security settings. Review the entries and explicitly sign out unfamiliar sessions where the site offers that control.

Etsy says its sign-in history shows up to the ten most recent sign-ins and lets you select Sign out to remove an active session from a public computer. Etsy’s ordinary sign-out instructions apply to the current client: on the website, use Your account → Sign out; in the Seller app, use More → Log out of account; in the Etsy app, use You → Settings → Sign Out (Etsy sign-out instructions; Etsy compromised-account guidance).
The Walmart and eBay help pages cited here document password changes and recovery, but do not document a universal “sign out everywhere” path. For another retailer, check its official help and account settings; if you cannot find a session control or believe someone else has access, contact the retailer through its official support channel.

What to do if you suspect someone accessed the account
- Secure the account. Change the password if you can sign in, or use the official reset flow if you cannot. If your email account may also be exposed—or shares a password with the shopping account—secure it as well.
- Check account activity. Review sign-in history, orders, profile details, saved payment information, active sessions, and connected third-party apps where the retailer provides those controls. Sign out sessions or remove connections you do not recognize.
- Report suspicious activity. Contact the retailer through its official support route if you see unauthorized orders, profile changes, or payment activity. eBay advises users to report an unrecognized login (eBay account-theft guidance).
- Add another layer of protection. Turn on two-factor authentication if it is available. Etsy says its one-time backup codes are shown only once and should not be shared, so store them securely if the service provides them (Etsy two-factor authentication guidance).
Why the exact steps differ by retailer
Shopping sites do not expose the same account controls. One may offer sign-in history and a way to end an individual session; another may document password changes without describing a remote sign-out option. Verification during a reset can also differ, including email or text checks. Interface labels and features may change or vary between a website, app, region, or account type, so use the retailer’s current official help for the account you are securing.
