Edit your Epic Games display name for Fortnite on PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile. On PlayStation and Xbox, Fortnite displays the name attached to your console account, so you must change the PSN online ID or Xbox gamertag instead. An Epic display-name change requires a verified email address and is available only once every two weeks.
Which Fortnite name are you changing?
Fortnite can show two different identities. The Epic Games display name is used on PC, Switch, and mobile. PlayStation and Xbox use the display name connected to the console account in the Fortnite lobby, even when that account is linked to Epic.

| Where you play | Change this setting | Where the change is made |
|---|---|---|
| PC | Epic Games display name | Epic Games account settings |
| Nintendo Switch | Epic Games display name | Epic Games account settings |
| Mobile | Epic Games display name | Epic Games account settings in a browser |
| PlayStation | PSN online ID/display name | PlayStation account settings |
| Xbox | Xbox gamertag | Microsoft/Xbox account settings |
Epic states that changing its display name “will not affect your PSN or Xbox gamertags/display names,” so your name can legitimately look different on a console than it does on PC, Switch, or mobile.
How do I change my Fortnite name on PC?
- Sign in to the Epic Games account linked to Fortnite on Epic’s website.
- Open Account Settings.
- Verify that the account email address is confirmed. Epic requires a verified email before it permits a display-name change.
- Find the Display Name field, enter the new name, and select Continue.
- Return to Fortnite and allow the account information to refresh before checking your lobby or party list.
If the Display Name field shows a lock, select the information icon beside the current name. Epic permits a change once every two weeks. The icon indicates when the next change becomes available; you cannot bypass that cooldown by reinstalling the game or switching devices.

Can I change my Fortnite name on mobile?
Yes. Mobile Fortnite uses the Epic Games display name, and Epic’s documented procedure is an account-settings change rather than a separate mobile-only rename control.
- Open a browser on your phone or tablet and sign in to the Epic Games account used by Fortnite.
- Open Account Settings.
- Complete email verification if Epic requests it.
- Edit Display Name, then select Continue.
The new Epic name applies to Fortnite on supported devices that use that account. A mobile change does not alter a PlayStation online ID or Xbox gamertag.

Why is my new name not showing in the Switch lobby?
Epic maintains a specific support topic for a changed name that does not appear in the Switch Fortnite lobby. Use that official Switch display-name troubleshooting guidance rather than repeatedly changing the name. The available support information does not establish a universal synchronization delay or one fix that works for every account.

The exact screens, eligibility rules, and any regional or account conditions are controlled by Sony or Microsoft and can change independently of Epic. Check the current official PlayStation or Xbox help instructions before confirming the change. Editing your Epic display name alone will not change the name shown in a PlayStation or Xbox Fortnite lobby.

Will changing the name delete Fortnite progress or purchases?
Epic says a console display-name change does not remove Fortnite progress, purchases, or content saved to the linked Epic Games account. That statement concerns changing the console display name. It is not a blanket guarantee for unlinking a console, moving ownership, deleting an Epic account, or connecting a different account. Do not unlink accounts simply to change a name.
Fortnite display-name rules and rejected names
Epic provides separate rules for display names; the available guidance does not establish a complete current list of character, length, or formatting limits, so do not rely on an assumed limit. Epic’s End User License Agreement allows it to change a display name that is offensive or misleading, violates Community Rules, or infringes another person’s rights. Choose a name that follows those standards and avoid impersonation.
