To change weather on a FiveM server, first identify which resource controls it. Then use that resource’s server-side command or configuration. kibook/weathersync provides commands such as /weather, /weathersync and /weatherui; vMenu uses setr configuration variables; QBCore and ESX resources add their own commands and permission checks. If more than one resource controls weather, one can immediately overwrite the other.
The reliable process is: find the active weather controller, start it correctly, set weather on the server rather than only on one client, enable synchronization, and store the settings in server.cfg or the resource configuration so they survive a restart.

How FiveM weather control works
GTA V weather is rendered on each player’s client, but a FiveM resource can synchronize a chosen state to everyone. A local client command may appear to work while the server’s synchronization loop continues applying another state. This is why a weather change can be visible for a few seconds and then revert, or why only one player sees it.
FiveM does not have one universal weather command. Commands are registered by resources. The command available on your server depends on whether you use kibook/weathersync, vMenu, a QBCore weather resource, an ESX resource, or a custom script.

1. Identify the resource that owns weather
Do this before changing a command or configuration value.
Check server.cfg
Open the configuration file used to start your server and look for lines such as:

ensure fel_weathersyncThe names are examples. Your resource folder and start line may use a different name. A resource must be inside the server’s resources/ directory and must contain a valid fxmanifest.lua (or, for older resources, a legacy manifest). A resource that is present on disk but not started cannot register its commands.
Inspect installed resources
If several entries contain “weather”, “sync” or “time”, read each resource’s documentation and manifest. Also check custom scripts that mention weather natives or synchronization events. Running two weather managers at once is a common cause of resets and conflicting permissions.
Confirm from the console
Restart or ensure the suspected resource and watch the server console for load errors. A missing dependency, invalid manifest or syntax error can prevent command registration even when the folder name is correct.
2. Use kibook/weathersync commands
When kibook/weathersync is the authoritative resource, its documented command surface includes the following. Exact arguments and permission behavior can vary with the installed revision, so check the README or configuration shipped with your copy before giving players access.

For a server-wide change, use the server weather command rather than a local-player command. A typical documented form is:
/weather CLEARUse the weather identifiers accepted by your revision; do not assume every resource accepts the same capitalization or list of names.
Persisting kibook/weathersync defaults
The resource documents configuration values for the initial time, time scale, real-time offset, frozen time and weather. Set those values in the resource’s configuration file when you want a known state at startup. Keep the resource’s start line in server.cfg:

Scripts can control kibook/weathersync without emulating chat commands. Its documented server exports include getWeather, setWeather, getTime, setTime and synchronization controls. Verify the export signature in the installed version before calling it from another resource. An export can provide cleaner automation for scheduled events, but it does not remove the need to manage permissions and avoid another resource writing over the same state.
3. Configure vMenu when it is the weather authority
vMenu uses server configuration variables rather than the kibook/weathersync command set. Add or edit the relevant setr entries in the vMenu configuration or in server.cfg, according to the layout of your installation.

Permanent clear weather in vMenu
To keep clear weather, set the current weather to a clear type, enable synchronization, and disable dynamic weather. A representative configuration is:

setr vmenu_enable_snow falseThe exact accepted weather string and Boolean format can depend on your vMenu version. If the resource’s sample configuration uses a different spelling or value format, follow that sample. Restart vMenu or the entire server after changing startup variables; changing a file does not necessarily reload already-running values.
Using dynamic weather
For automatic changes, set vmenu_enable_dynamic_weather to true and choose the timer. Keep synchronization enabled so every client receives the same transitions. Use a nonzero transition duration when you want gradual changes, remembering that the documented maximum is 45 seconds.
4. QBCore and ESX weather resources
Framework resources are not interchangeable with vMenu or kibook/weathersync. They normally register commands and server events through the framework’s permission system.
QBCore
The qb-weathersync implementation documents permission-checked controls for weather, time, freezing weather, freezing time, blackouts and dynamic weather. Common administrative commands include:
/weatherfor selecting weather./freezeweatherfor stopping or allowing weather changes.- Related commands for time, time freezing, blackouts and dynamic weather, depending on the installed version.
Because authorization is checked before the state-changing event runs, a player can receive a permission error even when the command exists. Grant the appropriate framework or ACE permission instead of removing the check. Do not copy command names from a different QBCore release without checking the resource currently installed.

ESX and standalone alternatives
ESX resources expose their own command names and groups. The documented fel_weathersync example provides setWeather, setTime, freezeWeather and freezeTime controls and is started with:
ensure fel_weathersyncThese controls are examples for that resource, not universal FiveM commands. Confirm the command registration and administrator group in its configuration before using them on a live server.
5. Start and persist the selected resource
FiveM supports resource-management commands such as start, ensure, restart and exec. For normal boot configuration, ensure is usually the safest choice because it starts a stopped resource and restarts it if necessary when the command is processed.

resources/. Keep its manifest at the expected folder level. - Install dependencies. Follow the resource’s stated dependency order. A weather resource that fails to load cannot register commands.
- Add one authoritative start line. For example,
ensure weathersyncorensure fel_weathersync. Use the actual folder name. - Add persistent variables. Store vMenu
setrentries or resource defaults in the configuration file loaded at startup. - Restart and verify. Watch the console, join with an authorized account and test a server-wide change with another player connected.
If you edit a running configuration, use the resource’s documented reload procedure or restart it. A server restart is the most predictable way to ensure startup values are applied in the intended order.
6. Prevent competing weather controllers
Run one system as the authority for synchronized weather. Disable duplicate weather managers or remove their weather-writing code. A typical conflict looks like this: an administrator sets clear weather, a second resource’s timer runs a moment later, and every client changes back to the second resource’s choice.
- Search
server.cfgfor more than one weather or time resource. - Check framework resources for built-in synchronization that may still be active.
- Inspect client scripts that call weather natives on a timer.
- Do not leave both vMenu dynamic weather and another resource’s dynamic loop enabled unless the integration explicitly supports it.
- After disabling a controller, restart the server and test again; stopping a resource may not undo every client-side state immediately.
7. Server-wide weather versus local weather

8. Troubleshooting weather changes
“Command not found”
Confirm that the resource which owns the command is started and that you are using its exact command name. A command documented for QBCore will not automatically exist on a vMenu-only server. Check startup errors and the resource manifest before changing permissions.
“You do not have permission”
Check the resource’s administrator groups, framework permissions and ACE entries. QBCore’s weather implementation explicitly authorizes state-changing events. Grant the narrow permission needed for weather administration rather than giving broad server access.

Look for a second synchronization resource, an enabled dynamic-weather timer or a client script that reapplies its own state. Temporarily disable every other weather writer, restart, and test with synchronization enabled. If the problem stops, re-enable resources one at a time to identify the conflict.
Only one player sees the new weather
You probably changed local weather or synchronization is disabled. Use the authoritative resource’s server-wide command or export, enable synchronization, and test from a second connected client. Local commands are not proof that the server state changed.
Weather resets after a restart
Move the desired value into the resource configuration or startup variables and ensure the resource starts during boot. Check that the configuration file you edited is the one actually loaded by the server. Also confirm that a later exec or resource startup line is not replacing the value.
Weather is synchronized but transitions look wrong
Review the transition duration. In vMenu, vmenu_weather_change_duration is documented as 0–45 seconds. A zero value produces an immediate change; a larger allowed value creates a gradual transition. Other resources may use different units or limits.
Blackout or snow does not match expectations
Blackout and snow are separate controls from the ordinary weather type in vMenu. Check vmenu_blackout_enabled and vmenu_enable_snow independently, then verify that another resource is not changing lighting or snow effects on the client.
9. A repeatable setup checklist
- Identify the single resource that should own synchronized weather.
- Confirm it is in
resources/with a valid manifest. - Add its exact
ensureline toserver.cfg. - Use that resource’s server-side command or export, not an unrelated command copied from another framework.
- Enable synchronization when every player must see the same state.
- Disable dynamic weather if you want a permanent manual setting.
- Store defaults and
setrvalues in the startup configuration. - Check framework or ACE permissions for every administrator who needs access.
- Remove duplicate weather loops and client scripts that overwrite the state.
- Test after a full restart with at least two connected players.

What to verify after every change
Use an authorized administrator to set a clearly different weather state, such as rain or a clear condition, while two players are connected. Confirm that both clients change, wait long enough for any dynamic timer to run, and check whether the state is overwritten. Restart the server and repeat the observation. This separates a command problem from a persistence problem and from a competing-controller problem.
When the result is still inconsistent, return to the decision path: identify the writer, confirm it started, use its server-side interface, enable synchronization, and remove every other script that writes weather or time.
