To change the video in an encoder-based YouTube loop stream without ending the broadcast, switch the active scene or source in the encoder that is sending the feed. Keep the encoder connected and sending, preview the new source, then check the live picture and audio. YouTube Studio manages stream details and provides the stream URL and key; it does not offer a universal control for changing an encoder’s video source midstream.
Change the video without stopping the broadcast
- Find the encoder sending your live feed. YouTube’s encoder workflow connects the encoder to YouTube using a stream URL and key. If you want the same broadcast to continue, do not stop the encoder’s output. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Prepare the next video in the encoder. Select or create the scene or source that contains it, using that encoder’s production controls. Names and steps differ between applications and devices; YouTube’s general setup guidance does not specify a universal source-switch procedure.
- Check the encoder preview. Confirm that the intended video is visible and ready before making it the active output. YouTube recommends testing the setup and checking the preview before starting; applying those checks when switching sources helps catch mistakes. YouTube’s streaming tips explain monitoring and testing.
- Switch the active output. Use the encoder’s scene or source controls to put the new video on air. Then check the actual live stream, not just the encoder preview, and verify that both picture and audio are correct.
- Leave the encoder sending content. Keep it running for the rest of the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder instructions say that stopping the encoder from sending content ends the live transmission.
Where to switch: YouTube Studio or the encoder?
For an encoder-based stream, the encoder chooses what video and audio it sends. YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room is where you manage stream details, including the stream URL and key used to connect the encoder; the cited YouTube guidance does not describe a general Studio button for replacing the encoder’s source while live. Make the change in the software or hardware encoder that is producing the feed.
This assumes your encoder is generating the live feed. If a third-party playback or playlist service is generating the stream instead, its own controls determine how to change videos; YouTube’s general help does not document those service-specific steps.
What to check immediately after switching
- Picture: Confirm the live output shows the intended video rather than a blank screen, the previous source, or an unintended scene.
- Audio: Listen to the stream and confirm the new source has the expected sound level and that unwanted audio has not carried over.
- Live status: Make sure the encoder is still connected and sending content. A local preview alone does not confirm what viewers are receiving.
- Delay: Allow for the stream’s normal delivery delay before judging the change. YouTube supports RTMP(S) and HLS workflows; HLS sends video in segments and has higher latency than continuous RTMP, but protocol choice does not change where the encoder’s source controls are.
YouTube advises monitoring the live picture and sound. Its streaming guidance also recommends keeping upload bandwidth headroom of 20% above the stream’s bitrate; this is an operational recommendation, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the video does not change or the stream is interrupted
- The old video is still live: The wrong scene or source may have been selected, or the change may have been made in a preview rather than the active output. Check the encoder’s program/live output and switch the intended source there.
- The live picture is blank or frozen: Confirm the source is available and playing in the encoder, then inspect the outgoing preview and live stream. Avoid stopping the encoder if you are trying to preserve the current broadcast.
- Picture changes but audio does not: Check which audio source is active for the new scene and whether the intended source is muted or at an unsuitable level.
- The encoder disconnects: Check the encoder’s connection and whether it is still sending to YouTube. A stopped encoder feed ends the transmission; reconnecting may not preserve the same uninterrupted broadcast.
- The live stream appears delayed: Some delay is expected, and HLS has higher latency than RTMP. Wait for the feed to catch up before switching again based only on what you see as a viewer.
Choosing a setup for future source changes
YouTube supports software and hardware encoders. Choose one that can handle the sources and production complexity you need, and test how its scene or source controls behave before a live event. Software can be enough to get started; YouTube says expensive equipment is not required. For productions involving external audio/video hardware or multiple cameras and microphones, an encoder workflow can support a more advanced setup. The appropriate choice depends on your sources and operating needs, not on a requirement to buy a particular device.
