Change your wallpaper in Settings
- Open Settings and tap Wallpaper and style. On many devices, you can also touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen to open wallpaper controls.
- Tap Change wallpapers.
- Choose a built-in wallpaper, or select Gallery to use media saved on your phone.
- Select the wallpaper and tap Done. Choose Home screen, Lock screen, or both if your phone offers that choice.
- Adjust the preview by repositioning or zooming the image, then tap the displayed apply control, such as Done or Set.
Samsung’s Japan instructions, updated July 29, 2026, document the Settings path and note that their steps assume One UI Home; some options may not appear with a third-party launcher. Use a photo from Gallery
Choose a photo from Wallpaper and style
Follow the Settings steps above, choose Gallery, and select the picture you want. If it is stored only in cloud storage, download it to your Galaxy device first. Preview the crop before applying: the phone may scale or crop the image to fit the selected screen. Set a photo while viewing it in Gallery
Open the picture in Gallery, open its menu, and choose the wallpaper action if available. Select the destination screen, reposition or zoom the preview, and apply it. The exact menu wording can differ by device and software version. Samsung UK’s support instructions describe this Gallery route and the option to set a wallpaper for the Home screen, Lock screen, or both; its labels may reflect an older software workflow. Set a video or multiple images
Whether video wallpaper or a rotating set of images is available—and which screen can use it—depends on the Galaxy model and software. In the workflow documented by Samsung Japan, videos and multiple images can be set only on the Lock screen. Samsung Canada also documents video wallpapers and screen-specific choices, so check the options shown on your phone rather than assuming every model supports video on both screens.
For the models covered by Samsung Japan’s Lock screen customization instructions, a video must be no longer than 15 seconds and no larger than 100 MB. These are limits for that specific guidance, not a universal specification for every Galaxy device. Samsung Japan’s instructions.

Optional: create a Generative wallpaper
Some supported Galaxy devices offer Generative wallpaper under Wallpaper and style. Availability is device-dependent, so treat it as an optional choice rather than a standard step. Samsung India’s guide explains the feature for supported devices: How to set Generative wallpaper on Galaxy devices.

If the wallpaper option or media is missing
- The menu path looks different: Search Settings for “Wallpaper” or try touching and holding an empty Home screen area. Labels and navigation vary across One UI versions and regions.
- You use a third-party launcher: Its Home screen may not expose the same controls as One UI Home. Try the Settings route or consult the launcher’s own settings; available options can differ.
- Your photo is not listed: Download it to the phone if it exists only in cloud storage, then reopen Gallery or the wallpaper picker.
- You cannot choose both screens, video, or multiple images: Your model or software may not offer that combination. The available destinations and media types are shown during setup.
- The picture looks cropped: Reposition or zoom in the preview before applying it; the Home and Lock screens may frame the image differently.
