Samsung phones do not have one setting called “SIM card region.” If you want Samsung services for another country, change your Samsung Account country. If you want mobile service abroad, use a compatible local SIM or eSIM. If a new SIM is rejected, check whether the phone is carrier-locked. These are separate issues, and changing one does not automatically change the others.
First, identify which region you want to change

A SIM identifies your mobile subscription; swapping it does not, by itself, change your Samsung Account country or the phone’s firmware region.

How to change your Samsung Account country or region
Samsung Canada Support’s instructions, updated May 16, 2026, use a browser and the Samsung Account website:

- Open Profile, then select Edit personal information.
- Choose Country or region and select the country you want.
- Read Samsung’s notice, check the confirmation box, and submit the change.
Samsung says you must wait 180 days before changing the country again or reverting to the previous country. This is Samsung’s stated account policy, not a phone-SIM restriction. The change may sign out devices linked to the account, make some services unavailable (SmartThings in some cases), and affect which country’s transactions appear in purchase history. Samsung also lists restrictions or separate processes for some account types, including family and child accounts, phone-number-only IDs, certain European or age-restricted accounts, Mainland China accounts, and Galaxy Store seller accounts. Check Samsung’s current country or region change guidance before proceeding.

How to use a foreign SIM in a Samsung Galaxy
Using a local SIM or eSIM can provide service through a foreign carrier, but success depends on the exact Galaxy model, whether it is locked, the carrier’s requirements, and supported network bands. Samsung Korea’s guidance on using an overseas SIM is specific to market, device, and carrier conditions; its dated SKT references should not be generalized to every Samsung phone or carrier.
For a physical SIM, follow the instructions for your model to open the tray and install the card. A SIM ejector tool can help open the tray, but it does not change any region setting. Samsung’s Galaxy SIM card guidance covers inserting and removing cards. Menus and steps can vary by model, carrier, and software version.

If the new SIM asks for a PIN or unlock code
The wording of the prompt matters: a SIM PIN and a network unlock code are different protections.

SIM PIN or PUK
A SIM PIN protects the SIM card itself. The mobile carrier provides the default PIN and PUK information. If you do not know the requested code, contact the carrier rather than guessing.

Network unlock code
A network unlock code is associated with a phone restricted to its original provider. Samsung UK advises contacting the original service provider or retailer to request an unlock; eligibility and any cost depend on that provider’s rules. See Samsung’s guidance on SIM PIN and network unlock prompts.
If your Samsung phone does not detect the SIM
- Open Settings > About phone > Status information > SIM card status and check whether the carrier appears under Network. The exact menu path may differ by model or software version.
- Restart the phone and check that the SIM is seated correctly in the tray.
- Ask your carrier whether a SIM-protection restriction is blocking service.
- If needed, reset mobile network settings, following the instructions for your device.
Samsung’s SIM detection troubleshooting guidance covers these checks. If the carrier or network lock is the cause, changing your Samsung Account country will not resolve it.

Do not confuse SIM region with CSC
CSC is the phone’s software or market configuration, not the SIM’s country and not your Samsung Account country. The Samsung support guidance cited here does not provide a general, consumer-facing process for manually changing CSC. Avoid treating third-party service-menu or firmware-flashing directions as Samsung-supported instructions; they are not the same as changing an account country or installing a compatible SIM.
