Change the display language on the phone—not on the watch. Samsung says a paired watch’s language cannot be changed directly from the watch.
Change the language on the connected phone
On a Galaxy phone, use this route to change the phone’s display language:

- Open Settings.
- Tap General management > Language.
- Select the language you want and set it as the phone’s default.
- Check the language shown in the watch’s menus and screens.
Samsung’s phone guide documents this path, but labels can vary with the phone model, carrier, and software version. If your phone shows General or Languages instead, follow the closest language setting on that device. Samsung’s US troubleshooting guidance gives the route as Settings > General or General management > Languages; that troubleshooting article applies to Galaxy watches sold in the US. Display language is different from input language
The display language controls the menus and screens you see. Keyboard, voice-input, and voice-assistant languages affect how you enter text or speak to an assistant; changing one of those does not change the watch’s menu language. Samsung notes that input options can vary by watch and software version. Its Galaxy phone and tablet language and input guide covers the distinction.

On some Tizen-model guidance, Samsung describes changing Bixby or S Voice language from the assistant’s own options. That changes only the assistant language, not the watch’s menus.
If the watch language won’t change
- Confirm you changed the connected phone. The paired phone—not a different phone nearby—controls the Active2’s display language.
- Check the phone’s default language. Make sure the language you selected is applied as the phone’s default, then check the watch again.
- Repeat the phone-side steps if needed. Samsung’s US troubleshooting article recommends repeating the language procedure if the watch still displays the wrong language.
- Use reset only as a last resort. Samsung lists resetting the watch as a later troubleshooting step. Follow the usual backup and reset precautions before doing so; the cited troubleshooting guidance does not detail backup procedures.
Why the watch’s Language option may be unavailable
Samsung says a standalone watch may have a Settings > General > Language option. If that option is missing or grayed out on a paired Active2, the connected phone controls the display language. The Active2 connects through the Galaxy Wearable app; Samsung cautions that pairing methods and screens may vary by phone and software version. See its Galaxy Watch Active2 connection guide.
