Galaxy AI does not use one universal language switch. Each feature—Live Translate, Interpreter, Chat Assist, Transcript assist, Samsung Keyboard, and Bixby—has its own language control, while the phone’s interface language is changed separately. Open the settings for the feature you are using, choose its input and output languages, and download a language pack when the option appears. The exact menus and language choices depend on your Galaxy model, region, carrier, account status, and One UI version.
First identify which language you want to change
There are three different settings that are often confused:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Feature language: Controls one Galaxy AI tool, such as the two languages used by Live Translate or Interpreter.
- Direction of translation: Separates the language you speak or type (source/input) from the language Galaxy AI produces (target/output). A translation can be correct while the wrong side is selected.
- Phone display language: Changes Samsung’s menus, settings, and system labels. It does not automatically change every Galaxy AI tool.
Bixby has a fourth, independent control. Changing Bixby’s language and voice style does not necessarily change Live Translate, Interpreter, Chat Assist, or Transcript assist.

Live Translate lets you assign a language to Me and a different language to Other person. You can change either selection at any time. Voice selection is a separate setting, so changing the language does not by itself change the voice.

Set languages for calls in the Phone app
- Open the Phone app and open its Live Translate settings. The label can be shown inside call-assist or Live Translate controls, depending on One UI version.
- Tap Language under Me.
- Select the language you will speak or hear on your side.
- Tap Language under Other person and select the other participant’s language.
- If you want a different synthesized voice, open Voice for the relevant person and choose one separately.
During a supported call, Live Translate uses those two assignments as the source and target sides. If the conversation is reversed, return to the same settings and swap the languages rather than changing the phone’s display language.
Enable Live Translate in supported third-party calling apps
- Open Settings > Galaxy AI > Call assist > Live translate in other apps.
- Turn on the supported-app option if it is off.
- Open the Live Translate language controls and set Language under Me and Other person.
- While a call is in progress, swipe down for Quick settings and tap Live translate if the other-apps workflow requires you to start it manually.
Third-party app support is not universal. If the toggle or app is absent, check your model, region, One UI version, and pending updates before assuming the language setting is broken.
Set the two languages in Interpreter
Interpreter is designed for an in-person conversation and has two language drop-down menus. It is separate from the language pair saved for Live Translate calls.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick Panel. Swipe again if necessary to show all tiles.
- Tap Interpreter.
- Open the first language drop-down and select the language for one speaker.
- Open the second drop-down and select the other speaker’s language.
- Speak into the microphone. Galaxy AI displays the translation and, when voice output is selected, speaks it aloud.
If Interpreter shows a different pair from Live Translate, that is expected: each feature stores its own choices. The list shown in the tool is the authoritative list for your phone and current software.
Change Chat Assist and message-translation languages
Chat Assist language controls appear inside a supported messaging app rather than in one global Galaxy AI page.
- Open a supported messaging app and start or open a conversation.
- Compose text, then tap the Galaxy AI stars icon.
- Choose the writing-style control or the translation control, depending on what you want to do.
- Tap the language icon.
- Set the input language for your text and the output language for the translated message, then apply the selection.
Writing style and translation are different operations. If you only need to change the language of a translated message, use the language icon in the translation control instead of changing the phone’s system language.
Choose a language for Voice Recorder transcript translation
Transcript assist works on a recording that already has a transcript. Its translation target is chosen for that individual transcript task.

- Open Voice Recorder and select a recording that contains a transcript.
- Tap Transcript assist, shown with the Galaxy AI stars icon.
- Tap Translate.
- Select a target language. If it is not listed, tap Add languages and download the required language pack when offered.
The language list can differ from Interpreter or Live Translate because each feature supports its own subset. A downloaded language in Voice Recorder does not guarantee that it will appear in every other Galaxy AI tool.
Download and enable Samsung Keyboard languages
Keyboard languages control what you type and, where enabled, the language used for keyboard suggestions and related input. They are separate from Chat Assist’s translation output.
- Open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Languages and types > Manage input languages.
- Under Available languages, tap a language to download it if it is not already on the phone.
- Return to the language list and enable the downloaded language.
- When typing, switch among enabled languages with the keyboard’s language key or configured gesture.
If you need offline dictation, open Voice input in Samsung Keyboard settings, choose Samsung voice input, and install an offline language pack if one is offered for your language. Offline availability is not the same as cloud-based translation availability.
Change Bixby’s language and voice
Bixby uses its own language setting. It should be changed independently of the translation and transcription tools.

- Tap Language and select the language for Bixby.
- Choose a voice style separately if you want to change how Bixby sounds.
This setting changes Bixby’s interaction language. It does not necessarily change Live Translate, Interpreter, Chat Assist, or Transcript assist.
Change the language of the entire Samsung phone
Use the system language setting when you want Samsung’s menus and interface—not just an AI feature—in another language.
- Open Settings > General management > Language.
- If the language is missing, tap the option to add a language and select it.
- Select the language and make it the default when prompted.
This changes the system interface. Galaxy AI tools can still display separate language selectors and may keep their previous feature-specific choices.

Find language packs when a language is missing
Some Galaxy phones expose downloadable packs under Settings > General management > Language packs. On other models, downloading is offered inside the feature—for example, Transcript assist > Translate > Add languages or Samsung Keyboard’s Available languages list.
- Use Wi-Fi or a reliable mobile connection before starting a download.
- Keep enough free storage for the pack and any associated voice data.
- After installation, return to the feature and enable or select the language; downloading alone may not make it the active choice.
- If no Language packs menu appears, use the feature’s own Add languages or Available languages control.
Menu placement varies by model and One UI release, so the absence of a top-level Language packs page does not prove that your phone cannot download a supported pack.
Which setting should you use?
| What you want to change | Where to change it | What it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Call translation | Phone app Live Translate settings; for supported other apps, Settings > Galaxy AI > Call assist > Live translate in other apps | Language assigned to Me and Other person during translated calls |
| In-person conversation | Quick Panel > Interpreter | The two languages used by Interpreter |
| Translated messages | Supported messaging app > Galaxy AI stars > translation > language icon | Input and output languages for that message task |
| Recorded speech translation | Voice Recorder > recording > Transcript assist > Translate | Target language for the selected transcript |
| Typing and keyboard suggestions | Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Languages and types > Manage input languages | Enabled keyboard input languages |
| Offline dictation | Samsung Keyboard settings > Voice input > Samsung voice input | Installed offline speech-recognition language pack, where available |
| Bixby commands and replies | Settings > Advanced features > Bixby > Language and voice style > Language | Bixby’s interaction language |
| Samsung menus and interface | Settings > General management > Language | Whole-phone display language |
Why Galaxy AI may be showing the wrong language
The wrong side is configured
Live Translate distinguishes Me from Other person. Interpreter has two speaker drop-downs. Chat Assist distinguishes input from output. Reopen the feature and verify both sides instead of changing the display language.
The language is not supported by that feature
Samsung reported 24 supported Galaxy AI languages in 2026, but that is an across-the-product figure. Translation, transcription, summarization, and Bixby do not all support the same subset. The list shown in the specific feature is the authoritative one for your device and software.
The pack is not installed or enabled
Download the language from Language packs, Add languages, or Samsung Keyboard’s Available languages list, then return to the feature and select it. A pack can be present but disabled in the keyboard or unavailable to a different AI tool.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Your model, region, carrier, or One UI version differs
Galaxy AI availability is conditional. Some older models require a software update, and a carrier or regional firmware build can expose different menus. Install pending updates, restart the phone, and check the feature again.
An account or connection requirement has not been met
Some Galaxy AI experiences require you to be signed in, and cloud-dependent functions require network access. If a setting is greyed out, connect to the internet, complete any Samsung account prompt, and retry.

You changed Bixby or the system language instead
Bixby and the phone’s display language are independent controls. Return to the specific Galaxy AI feature whose output is wrong and change its own language selector.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Compatibility and availability
Samsung’s current Galaxy AI support list includes the following phone families and supported tablets. Individual features can still vary by model, region, carrier, software version, and downloaded language pack.
| Category | Models or families identified by Samsung | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S series | Galaxy S26 FE, S26 Ultra, S26+, S26, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge, S25+, S25, S25 FE, S24 Ultra, S24+, S24, S24 FE | Feature availability and language subsets can differ; some older devices need an update. |
| Galaxy Z series | Multiple supported Z-series phones | The exact feature list depends on the model and software build. |
| Galaxy A series | Multiple supported A-series phones | Not every Galaxy AI function is available on every A-series model. |
| Tablets | Supported Galaxy tablets | Menus and supported language packs can differ from phone versions. |
A supported phone such as the Galaxy S25 is listed by Samsung as ready for Galaxy AI, but that does not mean every language appears in every feature. Treat the selector inside the current tool as the final availability check.
On-device versus cloud processing
Processing can differ by Galaxy AI function. Samsung identifies translation among on-device functions. Auto-formatting, auto-summarizing, auto-corrections, and image editing are identified as cloud-based functions. Your phone may also expose Settings > Galaxy AI > Process data only on device where supported.
- Turning on device-only processing can limit functions that require cloud processing.
- A language being available offline does not guarantee that every translation or writing feature can use it without a connection.
- If a feature disappears or loses options after changing processing mode, review that mode and the feature’s stated requirements.
A reliable troubleshooting sequence
Use this order when the language menu is missing, a download fails, or Galaxy AI keeps reverting to another language:
- Open the exact feature that is producing the wrong language and verify its source/input and target/output selections.
- Check for a feature-level Add languages, Available languages, or Language packs option and install the required pack.
- Go to Settings > Software update and install pending updates, then restart the phone.
- Confirm that your model and regional software support the feature. Compare the available selector list rather than relying on the 24-language total for Galaxy AI as a whole.
- Sign in if the feature requests a Samsung account and connect to the internet for cloud-dependent setup or downloads.
- If the issue is only with Bixby, use its separate path under Advanced features > Bixby. If only menus are wrong, use General management > Language.
- Open the feature again and test a short call, phrase, message, or recording before changing another language setting.
What changed in Samsung’s 2026 language support
Samsung said on October 14, 2026, that it was expanding language support across Galaxy AI and Bixby so more people could use those experiences in their own language. Samsung reported 24 supported Galaxy AI languages in 2026. That announcement describes the overall expansion; it does not make every language available in every tool. Your phone’s current feature-level list remains the practical source of truth.
Quick Recap
Quick decision guide
- If a caller is translated incorrectly, change Me and Other person in Live Translate.
- If two people are speaking face to face, open Interpreter from Quick Panel and set both drop-downs.
- If only a message translation is wrong, use Chat Assist’s language icon inside the messaging app.
- If a recording’s translated transcript is wrong, use Transcript assist’s Translate and Add languages controls.
- If typing or dictation is wrong, manage Samsung Keyboard input languages and its offline voice pack.
- If voice commands to Samsung are wrong, change Bixby’s language.
- If Samsung menus are wrong, change the phone’s language under General management.
