Start an episode of Grey’s Anatomy, open the playback controls, and change subtitles or audio from the Audio & Subtitles, Settings, or keyboard/settings menu. Picture quality is handled differently: Hulu adjusts it to available bandwidth, Netflix uses a profile data-use setting, and Disney+ generally leaves quality to the app, title, plan, device, and connection.
Language tracks and resolution are not guaranteed to be identical across services. They can change by country, season, episode, device, licensing agreement, and subscription tier. The instructions below cover the current controls for Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ and explain what to do when an option is missing or the picture looks soft.

First check where your episodes are available
Streaming rights determine which service can play a particular season in your location. Hulu’s U.S. availability guide, published January 5, 2026, lists all 21 completed seasons of Grey’s Anatomy on demand for Hulu subscribers. It also says new season 22 episodes stream the next day on Hulu and can be watched live with Hulu + Live TV, subject to regional restrictions, blackouts, and the service’s terms. That statement applies to the United States; it does not establish availability in other countries.

Change subtitles and audio during playback
Open these controls after the episode has started. The episode list normally does not expose the language menu.
Netflix: Audio & Subtitles
- Start the Grey’s Anatomy episode.
- On a phone, tablet, or computer, tap or click the picture to reveal the player controls. On a TV-connected device, press the up or down button on the remote.
- Select Audio & Subtitles.
- Choose an available audio track, then choose the subtitle or caption language. You can leave subtitles off if an “Off” option is shown.
Netflix says downloads display only the two languages it considers most relevant. A language that appears while streaming may therefore be absent from a downloaded episode.
Hulu: Settings and Audio
- Play the episode.
- On a TV-connected device, press up or swipe down on the remote to open the controls.
- On a phone or tablet, tap the Settings icon. On Hulu.com, click Settings.
- Under Audio, select a language if one is offered. Use the subtitle or caption control in the same panel when available.
Hulu says alternate-language audio is available only for some shows and movies. Its player does not provide an option to turn audio off; you can change the track only when another track is supplied for that title and device.

- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
Disney+: keyboard/settings icon
- Begin playback.
- Select the keyboard/settings icon in the player.
- Choose the audio language, subtitles, or closed captions you want, then close the panel to resume viewing.
Disney+ states that these choices vary by country, region, and title. The service normally carries your last-used language and caption settings to the next show or movie, although the exact behavior can depend on the app version and device.
When the language you want is missing
Do not assume that a missing Spanish track or subtitle is a playback fault. Netflix identifies location, profile-language preferences, the title itself, device support, licensing, and show agreements as possible causes. Different seasons or even individual episodes can draw on different language sources. Hulu and Disney+ likewise limit options by title, region, and device.
- Check another episode in the same season; its track list may differ.
- Try the service’s supported app rather than an older browser or TV app.
- Review the profile’s preferred languages on Netflix, then reopen the episode.
- Confirm that you are not using a downloaded Netflix copy, which shows only two relevant languages.
- If a track is absent everywhere, the service has not supplied it for your region, title, or device; changing the player cannot create it.
Set or improve picture quality
Hulu: quality follows available bandwidth
Hulu’s video-quality guidance says, “Quality will automatically adjust based on your available bandwidth, ensuring you always have the best picture quality possible for streaming.” You do not select a universal resolution switch in the player. The stream can move between qualities as network conditions change.

Hulu’s published minimum bitrate guidance is:
| Target quality | Published minimum bitrate | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| SD | 1.5 Mbps | Hulu guidance published in 2026 |
| 720p HD | 3 Mbps | Hulu guidance published in 2026 |
| 1080p HD | 6 Mbps | Hulu guidance published in 2026 |
| 4K Ultra HD | 16 Mbps | Hulu guidance published in 2026 |
Those figures describe minimum bandwidth guidance, not a promise that every episode or device will offer the corresponding resolution. Hulu says available options vary by content and device. On Hulu.com, streams can be limited to 720p depending on device configuration and HDCP compliance, even when your connection is faster.

- In a web browser, open Account.
- Select Profiles, choose the profile you use for viewing, and open Playback settings.
- Select Low, Medium, High, or Auto, then save the setting if Netflix asks you to.
Netflix publishes these approximate per-device data-use figures:
| Setting | Netflix published use | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Low | Up to 0.3 GB per hour | Lower data use |
| Medium | 0.7 GB per hour | Standard data use |
| High | Up to 1 GB per hour | SD |
| High | Up to 3 GB per hour | HD |
| High | Up to 7 GB per hour | UHD/4K |
| Auto | Adjusts automatically | Netflix adapts to connection speed |
The High setting does not force every title, device, or plan to play in 4K. It permits Netflix to use more data when the title and equipment support it. Netflix’s current speed guidance is 3 Mbps for 720p HD, 5 Mbps for 1080p Full HD, and 15 Mbps for 4K Ultra HD.

- Hides behind your TV: The all-new design plugs right into your TV with a simple setup
- Super-fast startup: Start streaming channels like Disney+, Prime Video, HBO Max, Apple TV+, Netflix, Sling, and Hulu in a snap—just turn on your TV
- Long-range Wi-Fi: Enjoy fast, smooth TV streaming in any room with a strong Wi-Fi connection, now up to 2x faster
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku Streaming Stick with the Roku remote
- Voice search & control: Quickly search, play entertainment, and control your streaming device with the voice remote
Higher quality consumes more data. If a fixed setting causes buffering or freezing, return to Auto; Netflix specifically recommends Auto when playback cannot sustain the selected data level.
Disney+: no universal manual resolution selector
The cited Disney+ player documentation explains language, subtitle, caption, and accessibility controls but does not publish a universal manual resolution selector for every device or title. In practice, quality depends on the current app, title, plan, device, and connection. Check the player and the video or device settings available in your particular Disney+ version rather than expecting a single 720p, 1080p, or 4K switch.

Why Grey’s Anatomy may look blurry, and what to do
1. Give adaptive streaming time to settle
When playback starts, a service may begin at a lower quality and raise it after measuring the connection. Wait briefly before judging the final picture. If the image repeatedly becomes sharp and then soft, the connection is fluctuating rather than simply being capped at one resolution.

2. Check sustained speed, not just the package you pay for
Compare your connection with the service’s guidance: Hulu lists 3 Mbps for 720p, 6 Mbps for 1080p, and 16 Mbps for 4K; Netflix lists 3 Mbps for 720p, 5 Mbps for 1080p, and 15 Mbps for 4K. These are service recommendations or minimum guidance, so other activity on the network, Wi-Fi interference, congestion, and peak-time slowdowns can still reduce quality.
3. Reduce competing traffic
- Pause large downloads, cloud backups, game updates, and other video streams.
- Move a Wi-Fi device closer to the router or use a wired connection where practical.
- Restart the router if every service is buffering, then try the episode again.
- On Netflix, switch from a fixed High setting to Auto if the stream freezes.
4. Check device and content limits
A fast connection cannot overcome a device or title limitation. Hulu.com may be limited to 720p by device configuration or HDCP compliance. A TV, browser, streaming box, plan, or HDMI path may also lack the requirements for higher resolutions. The same episode can therefore look different on a phone, browser, television app, or connected box.
5. Distinguish a soft source from a connection problem
If only one episode remains soft while menus and other titles look normal, the source may not be offered at a higher resolution for that title or region. If every title drops quality or buffers, investigate the network or device. Changing subtitles or audio will not increase the source video resolution.

Netflix and Disney+ expose subtitle and caption choices in the playback player. Captions transcribe dialogue and relevant sounds; subtitles may be limited to spoken dialogue, depending on the supplied track. The exact labels and available languages come from the service and title.
Disney+ says caption visual formatting can be changed through device settings. If the text is too small, low-contrast, or difficult to read, open your television, phone, tablet, or streaming device’s accessibility settings and look for caption style, size, color, background, or edge options. The service also treats audio description as a separate descriptive audio track when one is available; it is not the same setting as ordinary language audio.
Netflix also provides subtitle and caption controls in the player, while the available styling controls can vary by device. If a style change does not appear immediately, stop and restart playback or check the operating system’s accessibility menu.

A practical decision path
- Need a different language? Start playback and open the service’s language panel: Netflix Audio & Subtitles, Hulu Settings, or Disney+ keyboard/settings icon.
- The language is absent? Check another episode, your region, profile preferences, device support, and whether you are watching a Netflix download.
- The image is blurry? Check whether the title and device support a higher quality, then compare sustained bandwidth with the service’s published guidance.
- Playback freezes after raising quality? Use Netflix Auto, reduce competing traffic, and improve the connection before trying a fixed higher setting again.
- Captions are hard to read? Open the device accessibility settings for caption size, color, contrast, and background options.
