Most Netflix changes start in a web browser, not on a television. Open your Netflix Account page for the primary email address, password, phone number, plan, payment details, privacy choices, and data requests. Use Manage Profiles for a profile’s name, language, playback preferences, contact details, maturity restrictions, viewing activity, and recommendations.
The exact labels and available controls can differ by country, account type, profile, and device. Follow the labels currently shown in your account. Netflix may ask you to confirm your identity, and some Kids-profile and maturity-rating controls are available only in a browser.

Account-wide settings versus profile settings
Knowing which level owns a setting prevents you from looking in the wrong menu.

Netflix generally allows up to five profiles on a standard account. An Extra member account has one profile and cannot add more. Profiles have separate recommendations, My List entries, ratings, playback settings, language preferences, notification choices, maturity settings, viewing history, and game saves; Kids profiles do not expose every feature.

Before you begin
Use the account owner’s sign-in when changing account-wide information. Netflix can ask for the account password or send a verification code to the primary account email or phone, so make sure you can reach at least one of those methods. If you are editing a secondary profile, the account owner can edit any profile, while a profile user can generally edit only their own information. A profile’s optional contact email is not a replacement for the primary account email.
Have the new email address, phone, or password ready before starting. A primary email must be unique to Netflix and between 4 and 50 characters. A verified phone number can be attached to only one Netflix account. These checks can make a valid-looking change fail until the address or number is removed from another account.
How do I change my Netflix account email, password, or phone?
Use a browser and start from the account-information instructions or Netflix’s account update page. A television or streaming stick may let you sign in, but it is not the reliable place for these account-level edits.

Change the primary account email
- Sign in to Netflix in a browser and open Account.
- Open the option for changing the account email address. Netflix’s current page may take you to a dedicated email-change form.
- Enter the new address and confirm it as requested.
- Complete any identity check, such as a password prompt or a code sent to the current primary email or phone.
The primary email must contain 4 to 50 characters and cannot already be assigned to another Netflix account. If a Kids profile is active, switch to a non-Kids profile before changing the primary email or password. If you cannot complete the identity check, use the recovery or contact options Netflix presents rather than repeatedly submitting a different address.
Change the password
- From Account, choose the password-change option.
- Enter the current password if requested, then enter and confirm the new one.
- Save the change and sign in again on devices that ask for the new credentials.
Netflix recommends a unique password of at least eight characters using uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid names, birthdays, common words, or information visible on social media. That is Netflix’s security guidance, not a guarantee that a particular password is unbreakable. A Kids profile must be exited before this change, and Netflix may require identity confirmation.
Change the mobile phone number
- Open Account in a browser and select the mobile-phone option.
- Enter the new number in the format requested for your country.
- Request the text message and enter its verification code.
Netflix requires SMS verification after a phone-number update. A verified number can belong to only one Netflix account at a time, so an error may mean that the number is still attached to another account.
Primary email versus a profile contact email
The primary account email controls sign-in, security notices, and account-level recovery. A contact email attached to a secondary profile is separate and does not replace the primary address. To edit profile contact information, open Account > Profiles, select the profile, and edit its name or contact details. The account owner can edit any profile; a profile user can update their own information but not another profile’s. Netflix says profile email and phone features can vary by account and profile.

Browser method
- Open Netflix and select Account, then Profiles, or choose Manage Profiles from the profile selector.
- Select the profile you want to change.
- Edit the available fields, such as profile name, language, playback settings, notification preferences, or contact information.
- Save the change. If Netflix asks for a password or a code sent to the primary email or phone, complete that verification.
App method
- Open the Netflix app and select My Netflix.
- Tap the current profile name.
- Tap Manage Profiles.
- Choose a profile, make the edit, and save it.
Menu names can move as Netflix updates its app. If a setting is missing, try the browser Account path; some controls are intentionally not offered in the app or on a television.
Switch profiles
Use the profile icon or profile selector and choose the desired profile. Switching profiles changes the recommendations, My List, ratings, viewing history, and restrictions used for that session; it does not change the account owner’s email or password.
Delete a profile safely
The account’s main profile cannot be deleted. To delete a different profile, either that profile or the main profile must be active, then choose Delete Profile in profile management and confirm.
Deletion removes that profile’s viewing history and game saves. It is not a reversible way to hide activity. If you only want to stop a title appearing in recommendations or activity, use the viewing-activity controls instead of deleting the profile.
How do I change Netflix parental controls or block a show?
Netflix parental controls apply to an individual profile. They are different from a profile lock: a lock controls who can enter the profile, while maturity and title restrictions control what that profile can watch. Use Netflix’s maturity-rating and title-blocking instructions.
Set a maturity rating
- In a browser, open Account.
- Open Profiles and select the profile to restrict.
- Open the parental-control or viewing-restriction setting.
- Complete Netflix’s identity verification.
- Choose the highest maturity level the profile may watch and save.
A profile with a maturity level set should show only titles rated at or below that level. Ratings and available choices can differ by country because local classifications differ.
Block a specific title
- Open the same profile’s parental-control settings in a browser.
- Choose the title-blocking option and search for the movie or series.
- Select the title, save the restriction, and repeat for other titles if needed.
Netflix states that title blocking for Kids profiles must be handled in a browser. Maturity settings for Kids profiles also require a browser; the mobile app supports some other parental controls. Maturity-rating changes cannot be made on a TV or streaming device, even when other profile edits work there. A blocked title may remain visible in a search or list with a restriction indicator, but it should not play for the restricted profile.

After saving a maturity or title restriction, the device may need to refresh. Netflix advises refreshing the device, signing out and back in, or restarting the app if the old result still appears. Check the profile selector first: restrictions belong to the selected profile, not automatically to every profile on the account.

How do I change Netflix privacy and personalized-ad settings?
Privacy and data choices are available from the Account page, although eligibility and labels vary by country, account, and profile. Netflix describes these controls in its Privacy and Security Help Page.
Notification and communication preferences
Open Account > Profiles, choose a profile, and review its notification settings. Separately, Netflix’s privacy controls can cover matched-identifier communications on third-party services. A change to one profile does not necessarily change another profile’s choices.
Behavioral-advertising preference
Eligible profiles may show a behavioral-advertising preference in the privacy or data section. Follow the switch or opt-out language Netflix currently displays and save it. Availability is not universal, and Netflix says it does not engage in behavioral advertising for Kids profiles. Do not assume that an advertising control changes every marketing email, recommendation, or notification; those can be separate settings.

The privacy area links to Netflix instructions about hiding titles from viewing history, securing an account, data deletion and retention, account deletion, and limiting certain uses of personal information. Each action has its own eligibility and regional rules. Use the current Netflix instructions rather than applying a profile-setting change as a substitute for a formal privacy request.
How do I see or delete my Netflix viewing history?
Viewing activity is organized by profile and is easiest to manage in a browser. Netflix’s device and activity guidance is at How to see viewing history and device activity.
- Open Account in a browser.
- Under Profiles, select the profile.
- Choose Viewing activity.
- Use Show More to reveal additional entries when available.
- Choose Download all to export the displayed activity as a CSV file.
Netflix’s activity page provides controls for hiding titles from the profile’s viewing history. Hiding an entry can affect what Netflix uses for recommendations, but it does not delete the entire account or remove activity from every profile. Select the correct profile before changing anything. Deleting a profile is much broader: it removes that profile’s viewing history and game saves.
How do I check devices using my Netflix account?
From the Account page, open recent device activity. Netflix’s account-information guidance says account holders can see device information for devices active during the previous 90 days. Review the device type, approximate location, and last-use information shown, keeping in mind that network routing can make a location approximate rather than exact.

If a device is unfamiliar, change the primary password, sign out of devices using Netflix’s account-security option, and sign in again only on devices you recognize. Also check whether another household member recently used a hotel, school, or borrowed device before treating an unfamiliar entry as proof of account theft. After changing a password or phone number, review this list again so that old sessions do not go unnoticed.

How do I download the information Netflix has about me?
Netflix provides a data-copy request process described in What personal information Netflix holds about you and how to request a copy.
- Open Netflix’s Account page and locate the privacy or personal-information section.
- Choose the option to request a copy of your information.
- Verify the request using the method Netflix provides.
- Watch the primary account email for confirmation and delivery instructions.
Netflix says an account owner’s copy may take up to 30 days after the request is verified. A profile user who added an email can request their own data by contacting Netflix; the account owner is notified, and fulfillment may take up to 30 days after identity verification. Keep the resulting files private because they can contain account-use information.
How do I change my Netflix plan?
Use the browser-based Change Plan workflow.
- Open Account and choose Change Plan.
- Review the available plans and select the new one.
- Confirm the change and any billing information shown.

Accounts billed through a partner, mobile carrier, or package may not be able to change plans directly in Netflix, or may follow different timing and billing rules. In that case, use the partner’s account portal or support channel shown on your billing record. The plan options and prices displayed in your own Account page are the authoritative ones for your country and billing arrangement.
What to do when Netflix will not save a change
Netflix’s troubleshooting page, Netflix won’t save changes to my account information or profile settings, recommends a short browser reset:
- Make sure you know your sign-in method and current credentials.
- Clear the Netflix cookie in the browser.
- Restart the browser.
- Temporarily check whether an extension is interfering, especially a script, privacy, or content-blocking extension.
- Sign in again and repeat the change from the Account page.
Clearing the Netflix cookie signs you out. If the field is rejected, check the requirement attached to that setting: the primary email must be unique and 4–50 characters, a phone number needs SMS verification, and a Kids profile must be exited for primary email or password changes. If a setting is absent, try a browser rather than a TV, streaming device, or app. If the account is partner-billed, the partner may control the unavailable billing or plan setting.
Quick safety checklist after changing settings
- Confirm that the new primary email is an address you can access.
- Use a unique password and update it on trusted devices only.
- Review recent device activity after a password or phone-number change.
- Check every profile separately; profile restrictions and privacy choices are not automatically account-wide.
- Verify that a maturity or title-blocking change appears after the device refreshes.
- Keep the CSV viewing-activity download private because it contains account-use information.

Why can’t I change a maturity rating on my TV?
Netflix does not support maturity-rating changes on TVs or streaming devices. Open Account in a browser, choose Profiles, select the profile, and edit parental controls there. Kids-profile maturity settings and title blocking also require a browser.
What happens if I delete a Netflix profile?
The main profile cannot be deleted. Deleting another profile removes that profile’s viewing history and game saves, so deletion is not a temporary way to hide activity. Hide individual titles from Viewing activity when you want to preserve the profile.
Is a profile contact email the same as the Netflix account email?
