Web and mobile use separate language settings
The language selector is tied to the environment where you change it. A choice made on the desktop website does not automatically appear in the Amazon Shopping app, and a choice made in the app does not automatically update the website.

The exact wording can vary slightly by app release or storefront, but the control is still the country-and-language selector rather than a general phone-language setting.

Before you change anything: language and storefront are connected
Amazon offers languages by regional store, not through one universal list. A language available on one storefront may not be listed on another. The store you select also controls the shopping country, currency, prices, delivery choices, and which products are offered.
For example, signing in to Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, or Amazon.de means you are working inside different regional storefronts. If your goal is only to read the interface in another language, keep the store you normally use and change only the language when that option is available. Selecting a different store can alter the shopping context as well as the words on the screen.
Amazon says some website features or communications may not be available in your preferred language. Menus, checkout text, notices, and messages can therefore be partly translated or remain in another language even after you save a preference.

Change Amazon’s language on the website
These steps apply when you are using Amazon in a desktop or mobile browser.
- Open the regional Amazon website you actually use. Go to the appropriate storefront, such as Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, or Amazon.de, and sign in. A language choice saved on one regional website may not appear when you are looking at another.
- Open the account settings menu. Use the account control near the top of the page to reach Amazon’s account options.
- Select the flag icon at the top right. Amazon uses this flag as the country-and-language control. On some pages it is described as the language/country selector.
- Choose Country/Region. This opens the storefront and language choices associated with the regional store.
- Select the store you want to shop in. If you are not trying to change shopping countries, select the storefront you already use. Changing stores can affect more than the interface language.
- Choose a language offered for that store. Only languages supported by that regional storefront appear in the list. If your preferred language is absent, it cannot be added through this menu.
- Let Amazon reload the storefront. The interface should use the selected language. If it does not, check that you are still on the same regional website and signed in to the same account before trying again.
How to verify the website change
- Open the flag control again and check that the selected country, region, and language are the ones you intended.
- Confirm the address bar still shows the regional Amazon domain you meant to use.
- Open a separate page, such as an account or product page, to see whether the preference applies throughout that storefront rather than only on the page where you changed it.
The website setting affects the browser environment. It does not set the language inside the Amazon Shopping app.
Change Amazon’s language in the Shopping app
Use the Amazon Shopping app’s own country-and-language control. Amazon’s current corporate instructions place a flag control at the top right of the user tab. An Amazon staff instruction describes the path as Settings → Country & Language. Either route leads to the same type of preference.

- Open the Amazon Shopping app and sign in. Make sure you are using the account and shopping region you intend to keep.
- Open the user or menu area. Depending on the app layout, this may be the user tab or the main menu.
- Open the country-and-language selector. Tap the flag control if it is visible. Otherwise open Settings, then Country & Language.
- Choose the country or region. Select the storefront you want the app to use. Remember that this choice can change currency, delivery options, prices, and product availability.
- Choose the language. The list is limited to languages supported by the selected regional store.
- Tap Done or the equivalent confirmation control. Allow the app to refresh before judging whether the change worked.
What to check after saving in the app
Return to the same user or settings area and reopen Country & Language. This lets you confirm both parts of the selection: the storefront and the interface language. If the app still shows the old language, make the change again from the app rather than assuming the browser preference will carry over.

How to change the app or website back to English
To return to English, open the same country-and-language selector used for the original change and select English from the languages offered by the current regional store. On the website, that means the account menu, flag, and Country/Region control. In the app, use the user/menu area, the flag, or Settings → Country & Language, then confirm with Done when shown.
If English is not listed, the selected storefront does not offer it through that control. Choose a regional store that supports English only if you are prepared for the associated currency, delivery, price, and product-availability changes.

Why changing language can also change country or currency
Amazon groups language choices with the regional storefront. Selecting a different country or region changes the shopping country and the controls for language and currency. Amazon warns that changing the shopping country can affect:
- Displayed prices and the currency used for shopping;
- Delivery options and whether items can be shipped to your address;
- Which products and offers are available;
- The language options presented by that storefront.
This does not, by itself, transfer your Amazon account to the new country. Your account remains linked to its original country even when you browse another regional shopping store.
Language-only changes versus storefront changes
A language-only change keeps you in the same regional store while changing the interface language available there. A storefront change selects a different country or region and may change the commercial details listed above. Because the selector presents both choices together, read the country or region shown before confirming.
What to do when Amazon keeps reverting to another language
Use this sequence rather than repeatedly changing the same menu.
- Check the regional domain. Verify that the browser is on the Amazon website where you saved the preference. A setting made on one regional site may not govern another.
- Confirm the signed-in account. Sign out and back in if the page appears to ignore the selection. Then repeat the change while signed in to the intended account.
- Set the browser and app independently. Amazon does not synchronize these preferences automatically. Change the website setting in the browser and the app setting in the Amazon Shopping app.
- Recheck the country and language together. A storefront switch can make the previous language unavailable, so verify that the selected store is the one you meant to use.
- Allow the page or app to refresh. Reopen the relevant account or settings screen and confirm the saved values instead of relying only on the first screen you see.
If the desired language is not in the list after these checks, it is not supported by that regional store’s language selector. A device or browser translation feature can be used as a fallback for pages that Amazon does not provide in that language. Accessibility features can also help read or display untranslated text, but they do not add the language to Amazon’s own menus or communications.
When only part of Amazon appears translated
Changing the preferred language does not guarantee that every feature, message, or communication will be translated. Amazon explicitly notes that some website features or communications may not be available in the preferred language.
This can produce a mixed-language experience: the main navigation may change while a particular notice, account message, or feature remains in another language. Treat that as a limitation of the selected storefront rather than evidence that the setting failed. Recheck the saved country and language first; if both are correct, use a browser or device translation or accessibility feature for the untranslated content.
Choosing the right storefront when you travel or shop internationally
Use the storefront that matches the country whose prices, delivery choices, and product catalogue you need. The language selector is not a substitute for changing shipping arrangements. If you select another country only to read its interface, be aware that the shopping experience may now show that country’s currency, delivery rules, and available products.
When you return to your usual shopping region, select that original storefront again and then choose one of its available languages. Because account country and shopping storefront are separate concepts, changing the storefront does not itself move the account registration.
