Select a built-in tone, or add a locally stored audio file. You can also assign a different ringtone to an individual contact. Menu names and options vary by model, carrier, country, and Android or One UI version, so use the closest matching labels on your phone.
How to change the default ringtone

Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Ringtone.

If your phone has two SIM cards, choose the SIM whose calls should use the new tone.

Tap a ringtone to preview it, then select the tone you want. Go back to leave the screen and apply the selection.

The list of built-in tones can vary by carrier. Samsung’s guides also note that menu labels and available options differ across devices and software versions. Samsung US ringtone instructions and Samsung UK’s guide, updated 5 June 2026 show the documented paths.

How to use a song or other custom audio file

Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Ringtone.

Tap Add or the + icon.

Choose an audio file stored on your phone. If you do not see the track in the track list, check Folders.

If offered, turn on Play selected highlights only to use a highlighted part of the song, then tap Done.

The file must be available locally on the device; the documented Samsung workflow does not let you select a track directly from a streaming service. Samsung US Support says, “You must have physical song files downloaded on your device in order to set one as a ringtone.” A streaming-service download should not be assumed to work as a selectable local file. How to set a ringtone for one contact
Samsung’s contact menus differ across devices and software. Use the route that matches the labels shown on your phone:

Other interfaces: Open the contact, tap More > Change ringtone/vibration > Ringtone.

Choose a built-in tone or add an eligible local file, return to the contact, and tap Save. The contact may need to be stored somewhere other than only on the SIM: Samsung’s US guide says SIM-only contacts cannot be assigned a custom ringtone. How to change notification sounds instead
Call ringtones and general notification sounds are separate settings. To change the general notification sound, open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Notification sound. Individual apps may also have their own notification controls in their app settings. A ringtone choice does not by itself change whether the phone is in sound, vibrate, or mute mode.
