The simplest supported route is to cast the Quest 3S to the Meta Horizon mobile app: open the app, then choose Camera > Cast in the headset and select Meta Horizon mobile app. To show the view on a television, first try a TV target listed in that same Cast menu. Meta warns that direct Chromecast casting is not fully supported, so a smart TV or Chromecast device is not guaranteed to work. If direct TV casting fails, cast to the phone and try the phone’s own TV-mirroring feature as a second hop.
What Quest 3S casting does
Casting sends the view from the headset to another screen so people nearby can watch the player. Meta describes Quest sharing as supporting phone, tablet, TV and browser destinations, but the destination that actually appears depends on the headset software and the receiving device. For a household setup, the phone route is the most clearly documented: the Meta Horizon app is the receiving destination, and the headset menu path is Camera > Cast. Direct television casting is conditional. A television being labelled “smart” does not by itself prove that the Quest 3S can connect to it.

- A Meta Quest 3S with its software running normally.
- The Meta Horizon mobile app installed and signed in on the phone.
- The phone and headset signed in to the same account for the mobile-app method, as described in Meta support’s casting response.
- The Meta Horizon app left open while the cast is running. Meta support warns that minimizing or exiting the app can interrupt the cast.
- For a computer setup, Meta Quest Developer Hub (MQDH). The wireless MQDH instructions require the headset and computer to be on the same Wi-Fi network; this is a developer-oriented route rather than the normal living-room method. See Meta’s MQDH media documentation.
You do not need to buy an accessory for the supported phone workflow. A cable, capture card or particular television model is not established as a universal requirement by the available Meta guidance.

How to cast Quest 3S gameplay to a phone
Use this method when you want someone to watch on a phone or when you need an intermediate screen before attempting to mirror to a television.
- Open the Meta Horizon app. Sign in on the phone and keep the app in the foreground. Confirm that the app and headset use the same Meta account.
- Open the headset’s universal menu. Press the Meta button on a controller or use the equivalent Meta-button control in the headset.
- Open Camera. In the universal menu, choose Camera, then choose Cast.
- Select the phone destination. Choose Meta Horizon mobile app from the destination list and accept any confirmation shown on the headset or phone.
- Start the game. Leave the Meta Horizon app open while the player uses the headset. Switching away from or closing the app can stop the session.
- Stop casting when finished. Return to Camera > Cast in the headset and choose Stop Casting.
These menu names come from a Meta community support response, while Meta’s official casting video demonstrates casting the headset view to a mobile phone: Meta support response and Meta Quest | Cast to a Screen. Meta’s response is not a current Quest 3S user manual, so wording or icon placement can change after a headset or app update. Look for the Camera and Cast controls if the labels are slightly different.
If the phone does not appear
- Open the Meta Horizon app before opening the Cast menu; do not leave it only running in the background.
- Check that the phone app and headset are signed in to the same account.
- Install available updates for both the headset and the Meta Horizon app, then restart the app and try the Cast menu again.
- If the destination still does not appear, stop and restart the headset and phone before testing another destination. This resets the session without changing game data.
How to cast Quest 3S directly to a TV
Direct TV casting is worth trying when the television or attached streaming device appears as an available destination in the headset. The Cast list, not the TV’s marketing label, is the practical test.

- Turn on the television and make sure the intended casting receiver is ready.
- Open the Quest 3S universal menu with the Meta button.
- Choose Camera > Cast.
- Review the destinations shown by the headset. If your TV or receiver is listed, select it and complete the on-screen confirmation.
- Start the game only after the television shows the headset view. To end the session, return to Camera > Cast and choose Stop Casting.
Do not assume that every smart TV, Google TV device or Chromecast generation is compatible. Meta support states: “Just a reminder, Casting directly to a Chromecast device is not fully supported by Meta and may not work with some Chromecast devices.” That warning is reproduced in Meta’s support response. A TV can therefore be visible in the menu and still fail to establish a session, or it may never appear at all.

What Google’s casting guidance does—and does not—confirm
Google TV Help explains casting from the latest version of a Chromecast-enabled app or from Chrome. That general guidance does not verify a Quest 3S-to-Google-TV combination, nor does it create a compatibility guarantee for a particular TV model. Treat a direct target shown by the Quest as the decisive indication to try, and treat an absent target as a compatibility or discovery problem rather than proof that the TV is defective.
Phone-to-TV mirroring as a fallback
When the TV is not offered directly, the practical alternative is a two-hop setup:
- Cast the Quest 3S to the Meta Horizon app using the phone procedure above.
- Keep the app displaying the headset view.
- Use the phone’s built-in TV-mirroring or screen-sharing feature to send that phone display to the television.
- On the phone, stop mirroring first; then use Camera > Cast > Stop Casting in the headset.
This workaround depends on the phone operating system, TV and receiving protocol. The available Meta and Google guidance does not establish universal compatibility for this second hop, so regard it as an option to test rather than a promised solution. If the phone can display the cast but the TV cannot mirror the phone, the Quest-to-phone connection is working and the limitation is in the phone-to-TV link.

No comparable consumer test in the cited material establishes a winner for image quality, latency, resolution or reliability. Choose based on whether the destination appears and how many devices you want to configure, not on an assumed performance ranking.

Computer and browser viewing with Meta Quest Developer Hub
If the audience will watch on a computer rather than a phone or television, MQDH is the documented developer route. Meta’s MQDH media documentation covers casting from a connected headset. Its wireless guidance specifies that the headset and computer should use the same Wi-Fi network.
MQDH is different from the normal consumer phone workflow: it involves installing and using a developer tool, and the documentation is written for development scenarios. Use it when a computer is the intended display or when you need a desktop-based workflow. For a family or party watching a game, the Meta Horizon app is generally the less complicated first attempt.
Troubleshooting Quest 3S casting
The Cast option is missing
Open the universal menu with the Meta button and look under Camera. The documented path is Camera > Cast. If the labels do not match exactly, install headset updates and check again; Meta notes that software versions can change menu wording. A missing Cast control after restarting and updating indicates that the current headset software is not presenting the feature normally, so testing another destination will not fix the missing menu itself.

Open the Meta Horizon app and leave it visible, then verify the same-account sign-in on both devices. Update the app and headset, restart both, and reopen the Cast menu. Do not close the app immediately after connecting: Meta support warns that minimizing or exiting it may interrupt the cast.

The TV is not listed
Confirm that the TV or receiver is powered on and ready to receive a cast, then reopen Camera > Cast. If it still is not listed, the Quest has not identified that device as an available target. A smart-TV badge is not enough to establish support. Try the phone route and, if the phone receives the image, test phone-to-TV mirroring.
The TV appears but direct casting fails
Chromecast compatibility is the first limitation to consider. Meta explicitly says direct Chromecast casting is not fully supported and may not work with some Chromecast devices. Try stopping and restarting the cast, updating both sides, and then use the phone-to-TV workaround. If the phone path succeeds while the direct TV path does not, that result is consistent with a receiver-compatibility limitation rather than a failure of the Quest’s camera menu.
Casting stops when you switch apps
Keep the Meta Horizon app open and in the foreground during mobile casting. The support response identifies minimizing or exiting the app as a cause of interruption. Reopen the app, start a new session from Camera > Cast, and avoid force-closing it while the game is being shown.

Meta support notes that some apps may disable casting. If the Cast session works in other experiences but fails in one title, treat it as a possible app-level restriction. Test another app before changing the headset, phone or TV configuration; a single-app failure does not prove that the overall casting setup is broken.

Wireless MQDH cannot connect
For the wireless developer route, place the headset and computer on the same Wi-Fi network as required by Meta’s MQDH guidance. If the computer is on a different network, connect both to the same network and retry. For ordinary phone casting, use the account and app requirements documented by Meta rather than assuming that MQDH troubleshooting applies.

Use the phone route when you need the clearest supported setup
Select the Meta Horizon mobile app in the headset’s Cast menu. It requires no TV compatibility decision and gives you a direct way to let another person watch. Keep the app open and use the same account on the headset and phone.
Try direct TV casting when your receiver is listed
Direct casting avoids the extra phone-mirroring hop, but it is conditional. Select the TV only if it appears as a destination, and remember Meta’s specific warning about incomplete Chromecast support.
Use phone mirroring when direct TV casting is unavailable
This is the useful fallback for a TV that cannot receive the Quest cast directly. It adds another connection, so test the phone’s own screen-sharing feature with the television before relying on it for an event.
Use MQDH when a computer is the actual audience screen
MQDH is appropriate for a desktop or development workflow and has a documented same-Wi-Fi wireless path. It is more involved than opening the Meta Horizon app, so it is not the first choice for casual living-room viewing.
Stopping a session cleanly
For any headset cast controlled from the normal Cast menu, open Camera > Cast and choose Stop Casting. If you used phone-to-TV mirroring, stop the phone’s mirroring separately, then stop the headset cast. Closing a game does not necessarily end the cast session; use the explicit stop control so the receiving screen no longer shows the headset view.
Bottom line
Start with the Meta Horizon app on your phone: sign in with the same account, keep the app open, and use Camera > Cast > Meta Horizon mobile app. For a television, select a destination that actually appears in the Cast list, but do not assume that a smart TV or Chromecast will work—Meta says direct Chromecast support is incomplete. If the TV route fails, phone casting followed by the phone’s own TV mirroring is the practical fallback to test; for computer viewing, use the developer-oriented MQDH workflow.
