Choose the capture scope first: use Windows Snipping Tool for what is visible on your monitor, or a browser’s full-page screenshot for an entire scrolling webpage. Microsoft Edge and Firefox include documented full-page capture tools; Chrome users can add a full-page extension. The steps below explain each route, when it fails, and how to automate captures with ScreenshotNeo.
Decide what you need to capture
A normal screen capture records only the pixels currently inside the browser window. That is the right choice for a checkout error, a selected paragraph, or a design detail. A full-page capture stitches or renders content below the fold into one image, which is better for archiving an article, reviewing a landing page, or sending a complete bug report.
- Visible area: Windows Snipping Tool or a browser’s selected-area mode.
- Entire page: Edge’s full-page option, Firefox’s “Save full page,” or a Chrome extension that advertises full-page export.
- Repeatable developer workflow: an API such as ScreenshotNeo.
Long pages can produce very tall files. Before capturing, close obstructing dialogs, wait for images to load, and decide whether you need PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF.
Microsoft Edge: capture a full webpage
Edge’s Screenshot tool can capture a full page or a selected area, then lets you mark up, copy, or save the result. Microsoft documents the feature at Screenshot Tool in Microsoft Edge.

- Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Open the page’s context menu (right-click) and look for Screenshot. Edge menu placement can change, so use the browser’s command search or toolbar customization if it is not visible.
- Choose the full-page option when you need content below the current viewport, or select an area for a partial capture.
- Use the annotation controls if required, then choose the offered copy or save command.
- Open the saved file and check the bottom of the page. Pages with lazy-loaded images, infinite scrolling, or sticky overlays may need extra preparation.
When Edge captures only part of the page
Confirm that you selected the full-page mode rather than area selection. Expand accordions and scroll through lazy-loaded sections first; some pages do not insert images until they approach the viewport. If a consent banner or chat panel covers content, dismiss it before invoking Screenshot.
Firefox: use “Save full page”
Firefox has a built-in screenshot workflow that can download the whole page as an image. Mozilla’s current instructions are in Take screenshots in Firefox.
- Load the page in Firefox.
- Open the page actions menu and choose the screenshot command (the exact icon or menu position may vary by Firefox release).
- Select Save full page, not the visible-screen option.
- Preview the capture, then download it as an image file.
Use the visible-selection mode when you need only a specific element. For a very long page, verify that the downloaded image is complete and that fixed headers have not been repeated in an unexpected way.
Windows Snipping Tool: capture what is on screen
On Windows, press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open the Snipping Tool overlay. Microsoft documents this shortcut in Use Snipping Tool to capture screenshots.

- Press Windows + Shift + S.
- Choose rectangular, window, or another available snip mode, then drag over the area.
- Open the notification or Snipping Tool editor to annotate, copy, or save the image.
This workflow is for a visible screen region. The shortcut does not automatically capture a long webpage below the viewport. For an entire page, switch to Edge or Firefox’s full-page feature, or use another full-page tool.
Chrome: optional full-page extension
Chrome does not provide the same documented built-in full-page flow described above, so an extension is an optional route. The Chrome Web Store listing for FullPage Capture – Full Page Screenshot advertises one-click full-page capture with PNG, JPEG, and PDF export.

- Open the current Chrome Web Store listing and read its permissions, publisher information, supported capabilities, and update date.
- Install only if those permissions are acceptable for the pages you will visit.
- Open the target page, let dynamic content finish loading, and activate the extension from Chrome’s toolbar.
- Choose the advertised full-page capture or export format, then inspect the resulting file.
Store listings and extension interfaces change. Do not assume that an extension works on every site: browser-internal pages, cross-origin frames, login walls, infinite feeds, and bot checks can prevent a complete capture. Remove the extension when you no longer need its permissions.
Capture only part of a website
For a specific paragraph, image, or error message, use Snipping Tool’s rectangular selection or the browser’s area-selection mode. Zoom the page to a readable level, keep the address bar or another identifying detail if the recipient needs context, and avoid including passwords, personal data, or payment information. If you need a selectable element repeatedly, an automated CSS-selector capture is more reliable than manually dragging a rectangle.

Reliability and troubleshooting
The image stops at the first screen
You used a visible-area mode. Re-run Edge or Firefox with full-page selected, or configure a full-page API capture.
Images or charts are missing
Wait for the page to finish loading and scroll through lazy sections once. In an API request, wait for a selector, delay, or network-idle condition. Some content requires an authenticated session; provide permitted cookies or headers rather than attempting to bypass access controls.
A banner, popup, or chat widget covers the page

Privacy and permissions
Review extension permissions before installing Chrome software. Redact account numbers, tokens, addresses, and internal URLs before sharing screenshots. For automated captures, protect the API key and use only URLs and credentials you are authorized to access.

Why is my full-page screenshot blank?
Common causes are a page that has not finished loading, a blocked resource, a login requirement, or a bot check. Verify the page in a normal browser session and use an explicit wait when automating.
Which format is best?
PNG preserves text and interface detail, JPEG is smaller for photographic pages, WebP is compact, and PDF is preferable when the recipient needs a document-like, paginated output.
