To capture a documented Google results-page snapshot for a regional search in Tamil Nadu, set Google Search’s region, optionally emulate browser geolocation in Chrome DevTools, run the same query, and capture the viewport or full page in Chrome Device Mode. Record the settings and the location attribution shown on the results page: Google estimates search location from multiple signals, so these steps do not prove that every person in Tamil Nadu sees the same SERP.
How to capture SERP screenshots for regional searches in Tamil Nadu
Decide whether you are testing a country/region preference, a browser-geolocation input, or trying to approximate what a local searcher might see. These are different setups. Google provides a Search region control, while Chrome DevTools can emulate geolocation for browser testing; neither step alone establishes an exact, universal Chennai or Tamil Nadu SERP.

1. Define the test
Choose the query, language, target city or locality, and the comparison you intend to make. Keep the query and language identical between captures. Decide whether your test is region-level or city-level, and whether browser geolocation is part of it.
2. Set Google Search region
On desktop, open Google Search settings, go to Region Settings, select the intended region, and save. Google says results are customized to the current region and provides this setting for seeing results for another country or region. It is a region preference, not a city-level GPS selector. See Google’s instructions for seeing results for a different country.

3. Optionally emulate browser geolocation in Chrome
- Open Chrome DevTools.
- Open the Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows, Linux, or ChromeOS, or Command+Shift+P on macOS.
- Type Sensors and choose Show Sensors.
- In the Sensors panel, choose a location preset or enter custom coordinates for the target location.
- Reload the page if it needs to read geolocation on load.
Chrome documents this as geolocation emulation for testing web behavior. It does not promise to override Google’s other location or personalization inputs. The steps are documented in Chrome DevTools’ device mode guide.
4. Check permission and location attribution
Decide deliberately whether the browser allows or blocks sending device location to google.com, and record that state. Google says it may estimate location using device location, account home or work, past activity, or internet address. The results page may indicate whether location was estimated from the device, internet address, or other sources. Record the attribution visible on the page rather than assuming the DevTools override controlled every signal. See Google’s location guidance for Search.

5. Run the query and capture the page
- Run the query in the configured Chrome session and check that the query and enough surrounding result context are visible.
- In Chrome Device Mode, open More options and choose Capture screenshot for the visible viewport, or Capture a full size screenshot for the whole page, including content beyond the viewport.
- Save the screenshot with a filename that helps identify the query and test location, then keep the test record alongside it.
Chrome documents both viewport and full-size capture in its Device Mode guide.

Alongside each image, note the capture date and time in UTC, query, selected region, target city or coordinates if used, language, browser and viewport/device mode, account or personalization state where known, location permission state, and the location attribution displayed on the SERP. This is a practical recordkeeping recommendation based on Google’s description of location inputs, not a Google-mandated template.

For a comparison across Tamil Nadu locations, keep query, language, viewport, and account state consistent and change one location variable at a time. Compare the same Search region, target city or coordinates, geolocation permission, and capture time where relevant. Treat the images as snapshots: result composition can change over time and with context.
What a regional setting does—and does not—tell you
Google says Search results are customized to the current region, and its help explains that location may be estimated from multiple signals. Google states, “When you search on Google, Google will always estimate the general area that you’re searching from.” A browser geolocation override controls an input available to pages; Chrome’s documentation does not say it overrides Google’s IP, account, history, or other search context. That limitation follows from the separate descriptions in Google’s location help and Chrome’s documentation.
Do not use a country-code top-level domain as a substitute for changing Search region. Google Product Manager Evelyn Kao wrote in 2017 that “Typing the relevant ccTLD in your browser will no longer bring you to the various country services—this preference should be managed directly in settings.” Use the setting for that preference; the statement is from Google’s October 27, 2017 post.

Google Search Central says most, but not all, Google crawls originate in the US and that Google does not attempt to vary crawl location to detect site variations. That describes Google’s crawling, not whether a simulated screenshot matches what a searcher in Tamil Nadu sees. See Google’s multi-regional and multilingual site guidance.

Troubleshooting regional SERP captures
- The results do not look city-specific: Check the visible location attribution and the permission state. Search region is a region-level setting, and Google can use multiple location inputs; a browser override is not proof of a city-local result.
- The browser does not seem to use the emulated location: Confirm the Sensors override is selected and reload if the page reads location on load. Chrome documents geolocation emulation for browser testing, not control of every Google search signal.
- The full page is cut off or only the visible area is captured: In Device Mode, use More options > Capture a full size screenshot, rather than the viewport-only screenshot command.
- Two captures are difficult to compare: Re-run with the same query, language, viewport, and account state where known; change one location variable at a time and record the capture time and displayed attribution.
- A country-domain URL does not change the country service: Set the Search region in settings. Google’s 2017 guidance says the country preference should be managed there.

ScreenshotNeo can capture a page from one GET request. This is useful for automating an image capture, but it does not replace the Google Search region setting or the Chrome geolocation procedure above, and the supplied ScreenshotNeo options do not establish a city-level Google SERP simulation.
For example, to capture a Google search URL, replace the query value as needed:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.google.com/search?q=restaurants+in+Chennai -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before a shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots; and 1,000 screenshots a month are free with no card, with paid plans starting at $5 for 3,000. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I treat a DevTools geolocation override as proof of the exact SERP seen by someone in Chennai?
No. It emulates browser geolocation for testing, while Google estimates search location from multiple signals. Record the results page’s location attribution and describe the capture as a documented snapshot.
