Set up Playwright and Chromium on the VPS
This guide uses Node.js, Chromium, and a generic Linux VPS. “Indian VPS” means the process runs on a server located in India; it does not require a special Playwright setting. The documentation cited here does not compare India-region hosts or establish regional performance or VPS sizing recommendations.

Install Node.js using the instructions for your Linux distribution, then create a project and install Playwright:

Create an output directory for screenshots:

Playwright’s browser files are stored under ~/.cache/ms-playwright by default on Linux. The download can take hundreds of megabytes, depending on the browser and version. The Playwright CI guide notes that Linux system dependencies must also be installed; caching browser files does not replace those dependencies.
Capture a list of URLs sequentially
Save this as capture.js in the project directory. Replace the sample URLs with the pages you need to capture.

node capture.jsEach successful capture is written as screenshots/page-001.png, page-002.png, and so on. The numeric names prevent one URL from overwriting another. The per-page error handler lets the script continue after an individual navigation or screenshot failure; the browser and pages are still closed during cleanup.

Choose the capture size and readiness condition
Full page or viewport
The example sets fullPage: true, which captures the full scrollable page and can create a very tall image. For a viewport-only image, remove that option or set fullPage: false. Playwright’s screenshot guide also documents screenshot buffers and screenshots of individual elements.
Viewport dimensions
Set the viewport before navigation when the site’s responsive layout should render at a consistent size. The example uses 1365 by 768 CSS pixels; choose dimensions that match the device or layout you need. Pages in the same browser can use different viewport sizes. See the Page API.
Wait for the page you actually need
waitUntil: 'load' waits for the page load event, a useful starting point for many static pages. A modern application may render or fetch important content afterward. In that case, wait for a meaningful selector or other site-specific readiness condition rather than assuming a fixed delay guarantees that the page is ready. For example:

Headless operation, concurrency, and repeatability
Headless is the normal VPS mode
Playwright launches browsers headlessly by default, so an ordinary batch job does not need a desktop session. If you specifically need headed mode to debug a page on Linux, the Playwright CI guide says to use Xvfb; it shows running a command through xvfb-run.
Start sequentially; bound any parallel work
The script uses one browser and captures one page at a time. This is a practical starting point when the URL count and VPS capacity are unknown. For greater throughput, you can run a small, bounded number of pages concurrently, but simultaneous browser pages consume more resources and can increase load on target sites. There is no universal safe concurrency value or India-VPS throughput benchmark established by the cited documentation; tune concurrency against your server’s resources and each site’s access policies.
Keep conditions stable for comparable screenshots
For repeat captures, keep the Playwright version, matching browser build, viewport, and relevant locale or timezone settings consistent. This reduces avoidable differences in the capture setup, but it cannot guarantee identical output from sites whose content changes dynamically.
Troubleshoot common failures

Chromium will not launch or reports missing libraries: install Linux browser dependencies with
npx playwright install --with-deps chromium. Confirm the command completed for the same project and Playwright version used by the script.Rank #4

The browser executable is missing after upgrading Playwright: browser builds are tied to Playwright versions. Run
npx playwright install chromiumafter changing the package version. -
Browser download fails or stalls: Playwright downloads browser binaries from Microsoft’s CDN by default. Check whether the VPS can reach that host. The browser guide documents proxy configuration, a custom download host, and increasing the download connection timeout for constrained networks.

A navigation times out: the URL may be slow, unreachable from the VPS, or waiting on a page event that does not occur in time. Verify the URL from the server, retain an appropriate timeout, and select a readiness condition suited to the page. A timeout does not produce a reliable completed screenshot.

The screenshot is blank or misses delayed content: the page may need an application-specific selector or another readiness check after navigation. Confirm that the selector represents the content you want before taking the screenshot.

Images overwrite one another: ensure every URL receives a distinct output path, such as the index-based padded filenames in the example.

The job runs out of memory or becomes unstable: reduce the number of simultaneous pages, process the list sequentially, and consider whether full-page images are necessary. The cited documentation does not provide a recommended VPS size for a given workload.

No. Playwright runs headlessly by default; headed Linux runs require Xvfb.
