Playwright provides the per-page navigation and screenshot operations; looping over a list is your workflow code, not a special batch feature. For repeatable results, decide in advance whether you need the viewport, a full page, or a particular element.
What the agent needs to do
An AI agent can plan the work and inspect the results, but the screenshots still need to come from a browser or screenshot service that can render each page. In a local workflow, Playwright supplies the browser automation: navigate to a URL, wait for the page state you need, and save a screenshot. Its Page API documents navigation and screenshot capture as individual-page operations; the loop, output naming, and error handling below are implementation choices built around those operations. Before sending the task to an agent, specify:
- The exact URLs and whether redirects should be recorded.
- Whether to capture the viewport, the full scrollable page, or a specific element.
- The viewport dimensions, output format, and destination directory.
- Any page-specific condition to wait for, such as a selector appearing.
- How to handle failures, including whether to continue with the remaining URLs.
Keep the original URL beside each output filename. A screenshot records how a page rendered at one moment; by itself, it does not prove accessibility, text accuracy, or identical rendering in another browser or session.
Choose the capture scope and output format
Viewport
A viewport screenshot captures the currently visible browser area. Use it when you need a consistent first-screen view or want to compare pages at the same window size.

Full page
A full-page capture includes content below the fold. Playwright’s screenshot command documents the --full-page option. Long pages may produce tall images; if pages rely on lazy-loaded images or content that appears only after scrolling, check that the required content has loaded before capture. One element
Capture a specific element when the page contains unrelated navigation or surrounding content you do not need. Selectors must match the intended element on each page. In the Playwright MCP screenshot tool, full-page capture cannot be combined with a target element, so choose one scope per capture. Its scale option can request CSS-pixel or device-pixel sizing; see the Playwright MCP screenshots documentation.
Format and scale
Playwright’s screenshot command supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP output, along with custom filenames. Choose one format for the batch unless there is a reason to vary it: consistent output makes review and downstream processing simpler. The MCP tool’s CSS-pixel and device-pixel scale choice affects image dimensions and detail. Confirm which options your chosen interface supports rather than assuming command-line, Page API, and MCP interfaces have identical parameters.

Capture a URL list with Playwright
The following Node.js example uses Playwright’s Page API in a serial loop. It saves one full-page PNG per URL, creates the output directory, and writes a JSON manifest with the input URL, filename, and any failure. Serial processing is straightforward and avoids running every page simultaneously; adapt it if your workload needs controlled concurrency.

}domcontentloaded waits for the initial document to be parsed; it does not guarantee that a client-rendered page, images, or later network requests are finished. If a page needs a particular state, replace or supplement that wait with a page-specific condition, such as await page.locator('[data-ready="true"]').waitFor(), or use a deliberate short delay when no reliable selector exists. Avoid treating a fixed delay as proof that all content has loaded.
For a viewport-only image, omit fullPage: true. For a selected element, use a locator screenshot instead, for example await page.locator('main').screenshot({ path: `${outputDir}/${filename}` }). Those are alternative capture scopes; do not combine an element screenshot with full-page capture.
Give the agent a useful task and verify its work
A clear instruction separates the agent’s decisions from the capture rules you need to hold constant. For example:

For each URL in urls.txt, capture the full page at a 1440 × 1000 viewport as PNG.
Save files as 001.png, 002.png, and so on in screenshots/.
Create manifest.json mapping each original URL to its filename and final URL.
Wait for the page-specific ready selector listed beside each URL. If navigation or
capture fails, record the error and continue to the next URL. Do not claim a page
was captured if no image file was saved.Review both the images and the manifest. A successful file write does not establish that the page reached the intended state, and a screenshot is visual evidence rather than structured page understanding. Run locally or use a hosted browser
With local Playwright, you manage the runtime, browser installation, network access, and storage of the resulting files. A hosted browser is another execution path when you do not want to operate the browser environment yourself, but check the provider’s current availability, feature set, and limits before building around it. Troubleshoot failed or misleading captures
Navigation times out
The page may be slow, unreachable from the machine running the browser, or waiting on activity that never settles. Check that the URL is valid and reachable, then use a timeout suited to the site and wait for the specific content needed instead of requiring every network request to stop.
The screenshot is blank or incomplete
The page may render its main content after the initial document event. Wait for a page-specific selector or state before capturing. For below-the-fold content, confirm that lazy-loaded elements have been triggered and rendered; a full-page option alone does not prove every image or widget finished loading.

Use an index or stable identifier in each output name, and keep the input URL in a manifest. If a URL appears more than once, include a list index or another unique suffix so each requested capture remains traceable.
A capture fails but later URLs should still run
Catch errors inside the loop for each URL, as in the example, and write a result for every input. This preserves partial results rather than aborting the batch at its first problematic page.

Results differ between runs
Rendered pages can vary with browser, viewport, authentication state, cookies, page changes, and timing. Record the relevant settings and final URL, use consistent viewport and wait conditions, and treat screenshots as time-specific records rather than guaranteed identical output.
Performance, reliability, and cost
The example deliberately captures serially, making it easier to diagnose a bad URL and limiting simultaneous browser work. If you add concurrency, cap the number of pages running at once and account for the memory and network load of full-page captures. The cited Playwright documentation establishes the individual navigation and screenshot primitives, not a universal batch speed, scale, or reliability guarantee.
Local execution avoids a per-capture API charge from a hosted service, but it still uses compute, network, storage, and maintenance time. Hosted execution may reduce browser operations you manage, but compare current limits and pricing directly before choosing. No general speed or cost figure follows from the screenshot API documentation alone.

Can one screenshot prove a page is accessible or its text is correct?
No. A screenshot shows the rendered appearance at capture time. Accessibility and content accuracy require other checks.
