For new entries, use a Google Sheets Trigger; for a sheet that already contains URLs, read its rows instead. Then process each row, name the file from a title or name column, and optionally write the result back to the sheet.
What the workflow does
The basic pattern is Google Sheets row → screenshot capture → Google Drive file. An n8n workflow template documents this approach using a Google Sheets Trigger, the CustomJS PDF Toolkit community node, and Google Drive Upload (n8n workflow template). The template’s community node is available only on self-hosted n8n instances.

You can also use an HTTP Request node to call a screenshot API. n8n documents this route for Browserless, whose integration page lists PNG, JPEG, and WebP screenshot output (n8n Browserless integration). GetScreenshot is another API route described in n8n’s integrations documentation (n8n GetScreenshot integration).

Prepare the Google Sheet and credentials
Use clear column headers
Create a header row with a URL column and a filename column, for example Url and Name. Keep the names consistent when mapping fields in n8n. The published template refers to URL and Title in its workflow steps, and Url and Name in its setup guide, so check the actual field names in your sheet rather than assuming they match the template.
#1 Best Overall
- 14" diagonal, 1366x768 resolution, HD BrightView LED, Glossy NON-TOUCH Display
For optional status tracking, add columns such as Status, Screenshot, and Error. These are your own sheet fields, not required template headers.
Set up access
- Connect a Google Sheets credential with access to the spreadsheet.
- Connect a Google Drive credential and choose a folder where the screenshots can be uploaded.
- If using the CustomJS PDF Toolkit template, provide its API key and run self-hosted n8n; the community node cannot be installed on n8n Cloud according to the template notice.
- If using an HTTP Request node, follow the chosen screenshot provider’s current API documentation for authentication and request parameters.
Build the flow for new rows
- Add a Google Sheets Trigger. Select the spreadsheet and worksheet, and configure it to detect newly added rows.
- Check the incoming fields. Confirm that each output item contains the website URL and the title or name you intend to use for the file.
- Capture the URL. Connect a screenshot node or an HTTP Request node to the row data. Map the URL field into the screenshot request and choose the desired image format if the provider supports that option.
- Upload the result to Drive. Map the binary screenshot output to Google Drive Upload, select the destination folder, and use the row’s Name or Title value as the filename. Ensure the upload node receives binary file data rather than only the screenshot request’s JSON response.
- Optionally record the outcome. Update the source row with a status and Drive link, or append a result row. Verify the row identifier and field mapping before enabling writes.
Capture URLs already in the sheet
A trigger is for new rows; to process an existing list, start with the Google Sheets node’s Get Row(s) operation. The node documentation also lists Append Row and Append or Update Row. Row retrieval treats the first row as headings by default (n8n Google Sheets node documentation).
- Use Get Row(s) to retrieve the rows from the chosen worksheet.
- Pass the returned rows into the same screenshot and Drive-upload steps used for new rows.
- If you need to write status or links back, use an update operation and map the intended row key or row number deliberately.
For large sheets, confirm how your n8n version and workflow configuration handle returned rows and execution size. The cited integration information does not establish a universal throughput limit or guarantee for processing every row at a particular scale.
Choose a screenshot route
| Route | How it fits into n8n | What is established | Check before deployment |
|---|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | Call the screenshot API from an HTTP Request node | One GET request can return an image or PDF; cookie banners and other listed overlays can be removed, and only clean shots are billed. | Use the API documentation for request options and configure the response as a file/binary output for Drive upload. |
| CustomJS PDF Toolkit | Use the community node in the published Sheets-to-Drive template | The template documents a Google Sheets Trigger → screenshot node → Google Drive Upload flow. | The node requires self-hosted n8n. Current pricing, quotas, and compatibility details are not established by the template page. |
| Browserless | Use an HTTP Request node to call its REST API | n8n’s integration page says it can capture a page as PNG, JPEG, or WebP. | Confirm current authentication, pricing, quotas, and API parameters with the provider. |
| GetScreenshot | Use an HTTP Request node to call its API | n8n’s integration page describes this API route alongside Google Sheets integrations. | The cited page does not establish current pricing, limits, or suitability for a particular volume. |
ScreenshotNeo is the first API alternative to consider here: it removes consent banners and other listed overlays before capture, bills only clean shots, and has a free tier plus a $5 paid plan.
Keep field mapping and file handling reliable
- Match sheet headers to incoming fields. n8n’s Google Sheets documentation says automatic mapping expects incoming field names to match the sheet’s columns. If your field is called
Urlbut a later node expectsURL, map it explicitly or rename it before that node. - Use a dependable filename. Use the Name or Title field, and consider a fallback when it is empty. Avoid filename characters that your storage or downstream tools reject.
- Preserve the row identity. Carry a row number or other stable identifier through the workflow if you will update the original row after capture.
- Handle failures per row. A failed capture should be recorded against its URL rather than silently treated as a successful Drive upload. Configure retries and error handling in line with your provider’s current guidance.
- Check binary output. Screenshot APIs may return an image response rather than a JSON object. Configure the HTTP Request node to return file data and map that binary property into Drive Upload.
Or skip the browser setup
Instead of maintaining a browser or screenshot node, call ScreenshotNeo from an n8n HTTP Request node. The API returns an image or PDF for a URL; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

For a direct command-line test, replace the target URL as needed and supply your API key:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
In the HTTP Request node, use GET with the same API base URL and query parameters, then configure the response as a file/binary result for the Drive upload step. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots; and 1,000 screenshots a month are free with no card, with paid plans starting at $5 for 3,000. Troubleshooting
The trigger does not see a new row
Confirm the trigger points to the intended spreadsheet and worksheet, and that a new row—not just a change to an existing row—matches the trigger configuration. For an existing list, use Get Row(s) instead.
The screenshot request receives an empty URL
Inspect the trigger or row-read output and map the exact URL field name. Header capitalization and naming differences can break an assumed mapping.
Drive receives JSON or no usable image
Check the screenshot service’s response mode and the HTTP Request node’s output settings. The capture response must be passed as binary file data to Google Drive Upload.

The file has the wrong name or the sheet is not updated
Check that the filename and row identifier survive through each node. For automatic Google Sheets mapping, align incoming property names with the target sheet’s column headers; otherwise set each field explicitly.
The CustomJS node is unavailable
The cited template requires a self-hosted n8n instance for community nodes. If you use hosted n8n, choose a documented HTTP Request/API route or another node that is available in your deployment.
Cost, throughput, and deployment checks
The cited n8n pages describe integration paths, not a current comparison of provider pricing, request quotas, performance, or service reliability. Confirm those terms in the selected provider’s current documentation before running a large batch. Also test with a few representative URLs first, including pages that redirect or require extra loading time, and verify the image format, filename, Drive destination, and any sheet updates in your own n8n deployment.
For repeat or bulk runs, plan how you will identify failed rows and safely retry them without creating duplicate files. The right batch size, concurrency, and retry policy depend on your n8n deployment and the selected provider’s limits; the cited sources do not specify universal values.
