Prepare an access key and choose a batch workflow
Create or copy an access key from the ScreenshotOne API keys page. Keys are scoped to an organization. ScreenshotOne accepts a key in a query string, a POST JSON body, or the X-Access-Key header; the example below uses the header so the credential is not embedded in the URL or request body.

Decide whether you want lazy or eager execution before sending the batch. With the default lazy behavior, ScreenshotOne returns screenshot URLs and takes each screenshot when that URL is downloaded. With execute: true, it executes the requests before returning, so allow enough time for the batch to finish. The bulk endpoint and these modes are described in the Bulk Screenshots documentation.

}'Use HTTPS for API calls: ScreenshotOne warns that HTTP does not encrypt access keys, authorization headers, cookies, or other sensitive data in transit. POST options are sent as JSON, and the documented maximum POST body size is 100 MiB. For larger HTML or Markdown inputs, host the content and send its URL instead. See Getting Started.
Override settings for an individual URL
Shared options act as defaults. Add request-specific settings to an item in requests to override those defaults for that capture. This is useful when one page needs a different viewport, format, or other supported capture parameter. ScreenshotOne also documents HTML and Markdown inputs as alternatives to a URL in bulk requests; consult the bulk reference for the accepted request shape and options.

Request eager execution when the caller needs completed work
Add "execute": true to the bulk request when the response should wait for execution rather than return lazy screenshot URLs. This changes when rendering occurs, not the need to consume or store the resulting output. For an asynchronous or larger workflow, avoid setting this without allowing enough response time for all requested captures.
Consume the screenshot URLs or store outputs
The standard bulk response provides screenshot URLs. In lazy mode, download those URLs to trigger capture and retrieve the images. If you need durable output placement instead, the bulk documentation shows a storage workflow with store: true, response_type: "empty", a configured S3-compatible destination, and a distinct storage_path for each output. Storage is off by default, and storage_path is required when storing. The storage endpoint can be left empty for Amazon S3 or set for a compatible service such as Cloudflare R2. Scale a long URL list with pacing and retries
For more than a small one-off batch, treat captures as queued work rather than launching an unbounded number of requests at once. ScreenshotOne’s guide recommends batching starts, retrying failed requests, and checking the account’s live usage response before dispatching more work.
- Read the usage endpoint. Check
concurrency.remainingandconcurrency.resetin the live response before starting another group. - Start only the available work. These values describe how many screenshot requests can be started in the current one-minute bucket, not the number of renderers actively working. When the remaining value reaches zero, wait until the reset before starting more.
- Retry failures deliberately. Keep failed items identifiable and retry them with backoff rather than immediately resubmitting the entire list.
- Choose queue durability to match the job. An in-memory queue may be sufficient for one process. For work that must survive restarts or be shared across workers, ScreenshotOne’s guide suggests durable queues such as Redis/BullMQ or SQS.
Do not assume a universal concurrency allowance: use the values returned for your account and current bucket. The multi-URL guide also notes that proxies may be useful when needed.

Use bulk optimization only after testing your workload
If you are capturing the same URL with different parameters—for example, multiple viewport sizes—the bulk guide describes an optimization mode intended for that pattern. It is not guaranteed to avoid reloads: a site may reload anyway, and some option changes require a reload. Test with the actual site and settings before relying on the optimization for timing or throughput.

Troubleshoot common batch problems
- The bulk response arrives but there are no image bytes yet: This is expected with lazy execution. Download the returned screenshot URLs to trigger the captures, or use
execute: truewhen you need execution before the response. - A batch takes longer than the client allows: Eager execution waits for jobs to finish. Increase the caller’s timeout appropriately or use the lazy URL flow and retrieve outputs separately.
- New work cannot start: Check
concurrency.remainingand wait untilconcurrency.resetwhen the current one-minute start bucket is exhausted. - Stored outputs are not configured: Storage is optional and off by default. When enabled, supply a
storage_pathfor each output and configure the S3-compatible destination as needed. - A large HTML or Markdown payload is rejected: POST bodies have a documented 100 MiB maximum. Host oversized content and submit its URL instead.
- Credentials or cookies may be exposed: Ensure the request uses HTTPS. Avoid sharing or logging URLs that contain a key when using query-string authentication.
