Check each response rather than guessing a hidden API: the trigger, request and response format depend on the retailer and review widget.
Capture the review requests in Chrome DevTools
- Open the product page and DevTools. In Chrome, open DevTools before reloading the page. Select the Network panel, then reload. The panel records activity while it is open; opening it after the page has loaded can leave earlier requests out of the log. See Chrome’s Network features reference and Inspect network activity.
- Prepare the request log. Clear existing entries if they make the sequence hard to follow. Turn on Preserve log if navigation or a reload might clear useful entries. If you need to observe first-visit behavior, consider enabling Disable cache while DevTools is open. These controls affect what you observe; they do not make a site return reviews that it otherwise withholds.
- Find the review widget and trigger another batch. Scroll the review list, click its load-more control, or use its pagination controls. Reviews can be presented using pagination, load-more buttons or infinite scrolling; Google Search Central specifically includes product-page reviews among content that may load incrementally. See Google’s guidance on pagination and incremental page loading.
- Compare the log before and after the action. Look for requests that appeared when you interacted with the widget. Filter for likely XHR or fetch traffic if useful, then inspect a candidate request’s Initiator, Preview or Response, along with its headers and timing. Chrome’s tutorial shows how a page interaction can trigger a request and how to inspect its details.
- Verify the result. Confirm that the response contains review text or review data, and that the same interaction added the corresponding reviews to the page. If another batch requires another click or scroll, repeat the interaction and compare the next request. Do not assume a particular endpoint, parameter name or response structure until you have observed it on this page.
Tell what kind of review loading the page uses
Use the page’s visible behavior and the request log together. None of these patterns guarantees a particular URL or data format.

These checks help identify how this particular widget behaves; they are not universal properties of ecommerce sites. A response may contain review data, but it may also contain something else, so inspect it and compare it with the visible page.

The Network panel is useful for observing requests made by a live browser. It does not establish that every review is available in one response, or that a retailer provides a stable public endpoint. The reliable evidence is the request generated by the interaction and the response returned in that session.

For programmatic DevTools extensions, Chrome documents chrome.devtools.network.getHAR() and request-finished events in its chrome.devtools.network API reference. HAR access does not include request content by default; use the request content method when you need response bodies. The API documentation also cautions that requests made before DevTools was opened may be missing, so reload with DevTools open.
Why reviews may be visible to you but not a crawler
A person can scroll or click a control in a live browser. Google says its crawler generally discovers URLs from links and generally does not click buttons or trigger JavaScript functions that require user action. As a result, reviews revealed after interaction may not appear in the initial markup or be discoverable to a crawler. That crawler behavior does not prevent you from observing browser requests in DevTools.

If you own the site, Google recommends loading relevant lazy content when it enters the viewport. For infinite scroll, its guidance recommends persistent unique URLs for chunks, stable content for a given URL, sequential links and updating the visible URL when a new chunk becomes primary. Use Search Console’s URL Inspection Tool to check the rendered HTML. See Google’s lazy-loading guidance.
