To prevent Hindi font mismatches in Percy, make sure the intended Devanagari-capable web font is loaded and applied before the snapshot, then confirm Percy can discover and access that font asset. In browser automation, await document.fonts.ready after the final Hindi content and styles are in place, before calling the Percy snapshot.
Why Hindi fonts can differ in Percy
A Percy snapshot involves more than taking a picture in the test browser: the page is captured, assets are discovered, and Percy renders the result for comparison. Seeing the correct Hindi typeface locally does not by itself prove that Percy’s asset-discovery and rendering stages can access the same font.

Web fonts may load only when the browser needs them. If a snapshot happens before the required font has loaded, Hindi text can be captured in a fallback face, with different glyph shapes or text metrics. Percy’s documented asset-discovery process also uses a default network-idle interval described as 100 ms without new requests; that discovery interval is not a replacement for waiting until your application is visually ready. - Inspect the rendered text. In the test browser, select a representative Hindi text node and inspect its computed
font-family. Confirm the intended face is actually applied, rather than merely listed in a stylesheet. - Check the font declaration and glyph coverage. Review the
@font-facerule, itssrccandidates, and anyunicode-range. A subset can omit characters present on the page, causing only some glyphs to fall back. CSS lets a face use local or remote sources; browsers select a usable candidate from the declared sources. MDN: @font-face and MDN: src descriptor - Inspect the font request. Use the browser’s network panel to verify that the font file request succeeds from the test environment. Look for a bad URL, CDN failure, authentication requirement, cross-origin restrictions, or a blocked request.
- Check the actual characters. If only some Hindi characters differ, confirm their code points are covered by the font face and that the intended face wins font matching. WOFF2 is generally recommended by MDN for web delivery, but changing formats will not fix a broken URL, blocked request, or incomplete subset.
Wait for fonts before taking the Percy snapshot
Use the browser’s font-loading condition rather than an arbitrary sleep. document.fonts.ready resolves when fonts used by the current document and related layout work are complete. It does not guarantee that every declared but unused font face has loaded, so the target Hindi text must already exist and be styled before you await it. MDN: FontFaceSet.ready

Compare the test browser with Percy’s rendered snapshot
If the test browser looks correct after fonts load but Percy still differs, shift the diagnosis to asset discovery. Inspect Percy’s self-debug information and font/CSS requests, and verify that the font host is accessible to Percy and not excluded by host restrictions.
