In Power Automate for desktop (PAD), use the browser automation action Take screenshot of web page. It can capture an entire webpage or a specific element and save the image to a file. First let the authorized GST Portal user complete sign-in, CAPTCHA and any OTP prompt in the normal browser session; then navigate to the page and run the capture. If you need an official certificate or GSTR-2B data, download it from the portal instead of treating a screenshot as the source document.
What you need before creating the flow
- Power Automate for desktop installed and a browser supported by its web automation setup, such as Microsoft Edge, Chrome or Firefox. Internet Explorer is also listed in Microsoft’s browser automation guide.
- For an external browser, configure the required Power Automate browser extension or compatible WebDriver. Microsoft’s built-in Automation browser is described as ready to work out of the box.
- A Windows account and browser session the flow can access. PAD cannot attach to a browser opened under a different system user. Some physical-interaction options also require the browser to remain visible and the target tab focused.
- A folder where the flow can write the image, and permission to save files there.

Build a flow to capture a GST Portal page
- Create a desktop flow and launch or attach to a browser. In the flow designer, add Launch new Microsoft Edge (or the equivalent launch action for another supported browser), or use the appropriate action to attach to a browser instance. Set the browser up before adding browser automation actions.
- Navigate to the GST Portal. Use the normal portal page and sign-in process. Keep the account holder or authorized staff member in control of credentials and authentication.
- Complete access checks in the browser. Enter the CAPTCHA and any OTP or other prompt when the portal requests it. GSTN’s login guidance describes CAPTCHA and OTP authentication in applicable situations; design the flow to pause for the user rather than attempting to bypass those checks. - Navigate to the page you want to document. For example, issued certificates are available through Services > User Services > View/Download Certificates, as described in GSTN’s certificate guide.
- Add the webpage screenshot action. In the PAD action pane, find the browser automation action Take screenshot of web page and add it to the flow. Select the browser instance that contains the intended portal page.
- Choose what to capture. Select Entire web page for the whole page, including a long page, or Specific element when only a page element is needed. For an element capture, identify the intended element using the action’s selector configuration.
- Save to a file. Choose the file output option, enter a full path and filename, and select an image format. Microsoft lists BMP, EMF, EXIF, GIF, JPG, PNG, TIFF and WMF. PNG is a practical choice for readable interface text; it is not a GSTN requirement.
- Run the flow and inspect the result. Confirm that the intended page was captured, the image is not clipped or blank, and the path and file format are correct. Before sharing or filing it, check for taxpayer or authentication details that should not be exposed.

Choose a screenshot or an official portal download
A screenshot records how a page appeared on screen. It is not the downloaded source file, and the cited portal guidance does not establish that a screenshot proves a filing was submitted, is an official certificate, or will be accepted as evidence by an authority.

Troubleshooting
The flow cannot attach to the browser
Check that the browser was opened under the same Windows system user as PAD. If using Chrome, Firefox or another external browser, verify its required extension or compatible WebDriver is configured, then launch or attach again.
The capture is blank or shows the wrong page
Confirm that the intended tab is open in the browser instance selected by the action and that navigation and any sign-in prompts have completed. If a physical-interaction step is involved, keep the browser visible and the target tab focused.

A specific element cannot be captured
Verify that the element is present on the current page and that the selector identifies the element you intended. If it is difficult to isolate, capture the entire webpage instead.
The image file is missing or unusable
Check that the destination path is complete, the folder is writable, and the chosen format is supported by the action. Run the flow again and inspect the saved file before relying on it.

The portal asks for CAPTCHA or OTP while the flow is running
Complete the prompt yourself in the authorized browser session and continue only after the portal has advanced. GSTN’s authentication process can require these checks; the documented workflow is not an unattended-login or bypass method.

GST Portal screenshots may show GSTINs, taxpayer names, addresses, invoice details or authentication codes. Capture only what you need, store the image in an appropriately restricted location, and redact confidential information before sharing it when there is a legitimate reason to share the image. Review each saved capture rather than assuming the page contains only public information.
