Use browser automation to set up the portfolio’s intended visual state, then take a full-page screenshot. With Playwright, the key option is fullPage: true. Because a screenshot records one rendered moment—not an animation over time—interact with the page first and capture separate images for any other states you need.
What a full-page screenshot captures
Playwright defines a full-page screenshot as an image of the full scrollable page, as if the page could fit on a very tall screen. Its screenshot API can save the image to a file or return image bytes for processing. See the Playwright screenshots guide.

A WebGL canvas may be animated or controlled by clicks, scrolling, or hover. A still screenshot records the visual state at capture time; it does not preserve the animation. To document distinct scenes or animation frames, move the portfolio into each desired state and capture it separately.

Install and launch the browser
In a new project directory, install Playwright and its browser binaries:

npx playwright install chromiumSave the following as capture.mjs. It opens the portfolio, waits for the page load event plus a short settling interval, and saves a full-page PNG. Replace the example URL and tailor the wait and interactions to the site.

}Run it with node capture.mjs. The viewport and device scale factor help make captures repeatable, but the page’s layout, assets, and WebGL behavior remain site-dependent. A fixed delay is only a simple fallback; use a reliable page-specific readiness signal when one is available.
Set the scene before capture
For a portfolio that requires interaction, perform the same interaction a visitor would before calling screenshot. For example, use Playwright’s locator APIs to click a control or hover an element, using selectors specific to the page:

If the page has a consent dialog or other overlay, handle it deliberately: dismissing it may expose the page, while leaving it open may be necessary to document that state. Playwright notes that unexpected overlays can interfere with automated interactions; see its Page API documentation.

Save image bytes instead of a file
When you want to pass the screenshot directly to another step, omit path and keep the returned buffer:

Check the result and capture multiple states
- Open the saved image and inspect the top, bottom, and transitions between page sections.
- Look for blank, clipped, duplicated, or unexpectedly overlaid content; these are practical checks, not failures Playwright guarantees it can detect.
- If the portfolio has distinct scenes, repeat the interaction sequence and save a separate screenshot for each scene. Use descriptive filenames so the state is clear.
- If only the WebGL frame itself is wrong or unclear, diagnose the canvas separately with Chrome DevTools Canvas Profiler rather than treating it as a full-page export tool.
The sources do not establish a universal maximum full-page height or guarantee identical behavior across browsers and portfolio implementations. Test the specific page and browser version you plan to use.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
The image shows the wrong animation frame
A screenshot is a still, so timing determines which frame is visible. Stabilize the page using a site-specific readiness condition or a deliberate interaction, then capture. If you need another frame, capture again after reaching it. The cited screenshot documentation does not define a universal WebGL-ready signal.
The canvas is blank or missing
First confirm the portfolio rendered in the automated browser before capturing. Check for delayed assets, overlays, failed navigation, or a page state that requires user interaction. Add a wait tied to the site’s actual readiness when possible; simply increasing a timeout does not guarantee that a canvas has rendered.
An interaction fails or hits an overlay
Inspect whether a consent prompt, modal, or other overlay is covering the control. Decide whether to dismiss it or capture it as part of the intended state, then adjust the locator and interaction sequence accordingly. Playwright’s Page API documentation notes that unexpected overlays can interfere with automation.

Review the saved image rather than assuming every long or dynamically laid-out page will be captured as expected. Check the specific browser, viewport, page structure, and canvas behavior; the cited sources do not set a universal page-height limit or cross-browser guarantee.
