Use Playwright’s full-page screenshot option to capture everything below the fold: in JavaScript or TypeScript, set fullPage: true; in Python, set full_page=True. For reliable visual QA, capture a known application state at a recorded browser and viewport, wait for content to settle, and protect any personal information before sharing the image.
Choose the right screenshot scope
A full-page screenshot is a long image of the rendered document, not a capture of browser chrome or every possible interaction. Choose the scope that matches the question you are investigating.

Fix the test inputs
Use a known test account and deterministic, preferably synthetic, application data. Record the route and a test-state identifier so another run can reproduce the same content. Dynamic applicant names, changing job listings, or different application statuses can create visual differences unrelated to a code change.

Record the capture environment
For each baseline and subsequent capture, keep the browser and browser version, viewport dimensions, device scale, route, and test-state identifier consistent. Choose a stable output scale: Playwright’s scale: 'css' produces one output pixel per CSS pixel, while scale: 'device' records device pixels and can produce larger images on high-DPI displays.
Wait for the meaningful page state
Wait for the career-app content under review and any required fonts or images to be ready before capturing. If a consent banner or dialog is expected, handle it explicitly in the normal test flow. Playwright recommends explicitly waiting for and dismissing predictable overlays rather than relying on a generic overlay handler; see the Page API documentation.
Capture a full page with Playwright

After navigating to the route and waiting for the state your test requires, capture the full scrollable page like this:

Choose image format and scale deliberately
The screenshot API supports a path and PNG, JPEG, or WebP output. PNG is a straightforward lossless choice for QA artifacts; choose another supported format if your storage or workflow needs it. Keep the scale unchanged across baseline and comparison captures, since CSS-pixel and device-pixel output are different image dimensions on high-DPI displays. The options are documented in Playwright’s Page API.

Make visual comparisons less noisy
When using Playwright’s test-runner screenshot assertion, the assertion waits for two consecutive page screenshots to produce the same result before comparing with the expected image. Its documented controls include disabling animations and masking selected locators. See PageAssertions.
- Disable animations for a baseline comparison when motion is not what the test is meant to verify. Playwright documents that finite animations are fast-forwarded and infinite animations are cancelled to their initial state during capture, then resumed.
- Mask personal or otherwise irrelevant regions with selected locators when their exact content is not part of the visual question. Masking covers the locator’s bounding box; the documented default mask color is pink,
#FF00FF. - Check that a mask has not hidden the layout region being evaluated. Masking protects or stabilizes content, but deciding whether it preserves the visual signal is a QA judgment.
For a bug involving focus, hover, validation, or sticky behavior during scrolling, capture that state separately at the relevant viewport. A single tall full-page image does not replace checks of interactive states.

Career and application screens can contain names and other personal details. Prefer synthetic records for visual QA. Before attaching an image to a ticket, chat, or bug tracker, inspect it; mask personal fields if they are not needed to explain the layout issue, and confirm the mask does not obscure the area under review.

Handle long pages and capture failures
Full-page screenshots of very long or complex documents can put pressure on browser resources. Playwright notes that a browser page might crash if it tries to allocate too much memory. If a capture fails on an exceptionally long page, investigate page size and browser resource use; consider whether a smaller, relevant capture scope (such as a viewport or a component locator) answers the QA question. Those narrower scopes are useful alternatives, but they do not provide the same whole-document view.
