To capture content below the visible browser window, choose a full-page or full-size screenshot option—not the ordinary viewport screenshot. Edge and Firefox provide direct browser-interface routes; Chrome’s documented full-size method uses DevTools. The exact controls can vary by browser version and device, and the steps below distinguish whole-page captures from visible-area captures.
What a full-page screenshot captures
A normal screenshot records only the visible viewport: the portion of a webpage currently on screen. A full-page screenshot aims to include the document below the fold as well. This is useful when you need a single image of a long article, receipt, product page, or other page that would otherwise require several separate screenshots.
Browser interfaces may offer both choices. In Firefox, for example, “Save full page” and “Save visible” are separate options. Chrome likewise distinguishes “Capture a full size screenshot” from “Capture screenshot.” Select the full-page/full-size action when the goal is to include the rest of the page.
Before you capture
- Open the page you want to save and wait for it to settle. If you know it loads content as you scroll, scroll down the page first so below-the-fold material has a chance to appear.
- Close menus or dialogs that you do not want in the image. Check whether a cookie notice, chat window, or other overlay is covering the content you need.
- Decide whether you need the whole document or just the part currently visible. A full-page capture may be much taller and less convenient to read at normal zoom.
- After capture, inspect the saved image. Browser commands document capture options, not a guarantee that every site element will appear exactly as expected.
Microsoft Edge: use Capture full page
Edge documents a direct Screenshot action and the Ctrl+Shift+S shortcut. From the screenshot interface, choose Capture full page to include the page beyond the viewport. Edge can also capture a selected area, which is the better choice when you need only one portion.

- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Open Screenshot from the browser interface, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page for the whole page. Choose the selection option instead if you only need a region.
- Review the captured result, then copy it or save it using the available controls.
Availability and behavior can vary by device type, market, and browser version, so the interface on your installation may not match these labels exactly. If the shortcut does not open the screenshot interface, open Edge’s browser controls and look for Screenshot there.
Firefox: choose Save full page
Firefox documents a context-menu route as well as keyboard shortcuts. Right-click an empty part of the webpage and select Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on Mac. In the screenshot view, choose Save full page for the entire page or Save visible for the viewport. Firefox lets you download the result as an image file.
- Open the page in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot, or use the shortcut for your operating system.
- Select Save full page when you need content below the fold. Choose Save visible if only the current viewport is required.
- Download the result as an image file.
If you are comfortable with Developer Tools, Firefox also has a screenshot button that can capture the entire page or a single element. The button may not be enabled by default: in Developer Tools, open Settings, then Available Toolbox Buttons, and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page. This route is useful when you specifically need an element capture or want to work from the tools panel rather than the page context menu.

Chrome: capture the full size from DevTools
Chrome’s documented full-size method is in DevTools. Activate Device Mode, then use More options → Capture a full size screenshot. Do not confuse this with Capture screenshot, which captures the viewport rather than the full page.
- Open the webpage in Chrome and open DevTools.
- Activate Device Mode in DevTools.
- Open More options.
- Select Capture a full size screenshot.
- Open the resulting image and check that the content you need is present.
If you select Capture screenshot instead, Chrome captures the visible viewport. Return to the DevTools menu and choose the full-size option when you need the page below the fold.
Safari: verify the current steps for your platform
Current Safari-specific steps and their platform or version availability are not established here, so this guide does not guess at a menu path or shortcut. Safari’s interface and capabilities can vary across Apple devices and software versions. Check current Apple documentation for the Safari version and device you use before relying on a particular procedure. If you need a documented route from this guide, Edge and Firefox provide direct browser-interface methods, while Chrome’s documented route is through DevTools.

Choose the workflow that fits the job
| Browser | Documented route | Full-page action | When this route fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Edge | Screenshot interface or Ctrl+Shift+S | Capture full page | You want a direct browser screenshot action, subject to device, market, and version availability. |
| Firefox | Page context menu or keyboard shortcut | Save full page | You want a direct page route with a separate visible-area option. |
| Chrome | DevTools with Device Mode active | More options → Capture a full size screenshot | You are comfortable working in Developer Tools. |
| Safari | Current steps not established here | Verify for your platform and version | Use current Apple guidance rather than assuming another browser’s steps apply. |
These are workflow differences, not a ranking of screenshot quality or speed. Choose based on whether the browser offers the control on your device, whether you need the whole page or only the viewport, and whether you prefer a direct browser menu or DevTools.
What full-page capture may miss or change
A browser’s full-page command does not by itself promise that every element on every site will render in the captured image. Pages that load content only as you scroll, very long pages, embedded frames, animation, and sticky elements can require extra checking. Let the page settle, scroll through content that appears on demand, and inspect the output instead of assuming the command captured every detail.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Content appears only after scrolling: scroll down through the page before capturing, then review whether the later content is present.
- A sticky header or floating control looks unusual: inspect the image at the point where it changes or overlaps content. The documented browser commands do not guarantee a particular result for sticky elements.
- An embedded frame is absent or incomplete: check the frame in the live page and the captured image. A full-page command is not a guarantee that every embedded element will be represented.
- The image is too large to use comfortably: capture only the needed area if your browser offers that option, or make separate viewport captures for sections that need to remain legible.
Troubleshooting
The shortcut opens something else or does nothing
Shortcuts can differ by operating system, and a browser version or device may not expose the same feature. In Edge, open the browser interface and look for Screenshot. In Firefox, use the page context menu’s Take Screenshot entry. In Chrome, open DevTools and follow the Device Mode route.
The result contains only what was visible
Check that you chose the full-page action, not the viewport option. In Firefox, choose Save full page, not Save visible. In Chrome, choose Capture a full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot.

Part of the page is blank or missing
Wait for the page to finish loading, then scroll through it if content loads on demand and capture again. If an element still does not appear, verify it in the live page and consider whether it is embedded or otherwise rendered separately. The browser instructions describe available commands, not a guarantee for every site or page element.
You cannot find Firefox’s DevTools screenshot button
It may not be enabled. Open Developer Tools, go to Settings → Available Toolbox Buttons, and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page. You can also use Firefox’s page context-menu route instead.

If you need screenshots in an application, script, or repeatable workflow, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. A GET request with a URL returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For a basic image capture, cURL:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Replace the example target URL with the page you need and set your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request details. For example, the equivalent basic request in Python is:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
And in Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
ScreenshotNeo accepts and removes cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools for taking screenshots, getting page information, and capturing PDFs. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for free: 1,000 screenshots a month, no card required.
Cost, reliability, and repeat captures
The browser methods above use controls built into the browser or its developer tools; no separate capture service is required for a one-off manual image. For repeat captures or application integration, an API can remove the need to open a browser interface for every page. With an API, account for the key, request handling, and the response format in your workflow. ScreenshotNeo reports page verdict and billing status through response headers, so a script can distinguish outcomes rather than treating every returned response as an ordinary successful screenshot.
For a manual capture, reliability mostly means checking that the correct page state was loaded and that the saved image includes the content you intended. For an automated workflow, use sensible timeouts and inspect the result rather than assuming every target page will be available or render identically on every attempt. These browser instructions do not provide comparative speed, fidelity, or success-rate measurements.
