Because quote pages can contain personal or health-related details, use authorized data, mask fields that do not belong in the image, and control access to both the page and saved files.
What you need before capturing quotes
- A list of quote pages and the specific result states you need.
- Authorization to access those pages and the data used to reach them. Check the site’s current terms before automating; this guide does not establish that any particular insurer or aggregator permits automation.
- A browser workflow that reaches the quote results without submitting purchases, applications, or lead-sharing actions that are outside the screenshot task.
- A consistent viewport, a destination folder, and a naming scheme that identifies the provider, product category, scenario, and capture time without exposing a customer’s identity.
IRDAI describes insurance web aggregators as intermediaries that provide product information and price comparisons. Its official materials discuss notices about sharing prospect details and the confidentiality and security of prospect information. Capture a repeatable batch with Playwright
Playwright’s Page.screenshot() API can save an image to a path or return image data. Its fullPage: true option captures the full scrollable page instead of the current viewport. The example below illustrates the capture loop; adapt navigation and readiness checks to the authorized quote flow you use.

The example uses placeholder URLs and a placeholder results selector: replace both with pages and selectors you are authorized to use. It intentionally records a failure rather than silently treating an error page as a completed quote.

Make the capture suitable for comparison
- Fix the browser conditions. Set the viewport before navigating and keep it the same across the batch. Different viewport widths can change page layout and make side-by-side comparisons misleading.
- Wait for the actual result state. A navigation event alone does not prove that premiums or comparison rows have rendered. Wait for a results-specific selector, and use a timeout so a stalled page is recorded as a failure.
- Mask or avoid sensitive data. Playwright supports masking locators in screenshots. For example, pass
mask: [page.locator('.customer-details')]topage.screenshot()after selecting the fields to obscure. Check the result image; masking does not protect the original page data, browser state, or stored image. - Capture the whole page or just the relevant table. Use
fullPage: truefor a long quote page. For a focused comparison, Playwright can capture a locator’s element, but check for clipping or internal scrolling before relying on it. - Review every image. Confirm that premiums, policy terms, eligibility, benefits, exclusions, and conditions appear as needed, and that no unintended personal fields remain visible.
- Keep identifiers separate from customer identities. Use a scenario identifier in filenames and keep any mapping to real people in a separate, access-controlled location. The filename scheme is operational advice, not an IRDAI-mandated format.
A screenshot records what rendered at capture time. It does not independently prove that a quote was current, complete, or correctly calculated.
Compare captures without confusing visual differences for quote differences
For a useful batch, keep the capture conditions and scenario aligned. Compare the same browser viewport and scale, and note whether each image shows the full page or a focused table. Record the quote scenario and capture timestamp, then check that the relevant premium, policy term, cover, eligibility, benefits, exclusions, limits, and conditions are visible. Confirm that personal information is synthetic or appropriately masked before sharing.
IRDAI’s web-aggregator materials include comparison and prospect-information requirements. An older Guidelines on Web Aggregators document dated 21 November 2011 discusses comparison information such as premiums, policy terms, cover, underwriting requirements, exclusions, limits, conditions, and key features. Treat that document as historical context, not a current legal checklist; verify current regulations before relying on it for compliance.

The screenshot shows a loading state or no quote
The results may load after the initial navigation event, or the quote flow may have failed. Wait for a results-specific selector rather than relying only on page load, and log the failed scenario instead of saving it as a successful result. Do not bypass bot checks or other access controls.

Parts of the page are missing
Use fullPage: true for the scrollable document, then inspect the output for lazy-loaded images or sections that appear only after scrolling or interaction. If the comparison table itself scrolls internally, a full-page capture may not expose every row; consider a focused element capture or a permitted interaction that reveals the content, then review the image.
Captures differ in layout
Make viewport dimensions and browser configuration consistent before navigation. Record whether the capture is full-page or element-only. Dynamic banners, late-loading content, and sticky controls can still change what appears, so inspect a small dry run before processing a larger batch.
Personal information appears in an image
Do not distribute the image until you have reviewed it. Use synthetic data where possible, mask irrelevant fields, limit access to the output folder, and handle the source page and saved image under the policies that apply to your organization. A screenshot mask only changes the image output; it does not erase the underlying data from the site or browser context.

Can a screenshot prove that an insurance quote is still valid?
No. It records the page as rendered at capture time; check the insurer or aggregator for current quote terms and validity.
