Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches“An entire website” can mean either one long webpage saved from top to bottom, or every linked page copied for offline browsing. Those are different jobs: use a full-page screenshot for one page as an image, print a page to PDF when you need a document, and use a website crawler or web archive when you need a collection of pages. A screenshot or PDF of one page is not a copy of the whole site.
Choose the right kind of capture
| What you need | Use | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| A visual record of one page, from top to bottom | Full-page screenshot | A flat image, such as PNG. It does not contain the other pages linked from the page. |
| A shareable or printable document of one page | Print or export the page as PDF | A paginated document. Layout, page breaks, and content may differ from the live page. |
| Multiple pages you can open locally | Website mirror or crawler | Local files with links rewritten for offline browsing, subject to crawl scope and missing resources. |
| A record intended to preserve web interactions or replay | Web archiving tools | An archive such as WARC or WACZ, which is not the same as a flat image or ordinary PDF. |
Before capturing, decide whether you need appearance, readable pages, offline navigation, or interaction history. The more the goal depends on dynamic content, login state, or user actions, the less likely a simple screenshot or default crawl is to preserve what you need.
How do I take a full-page screenshot?
For a single page in Firefox, open the page context menu and choose Take Screenshot, or use Firefox’s documented screenshot shortcut. Choose Save full page, then save the resulting PNG. Firefox also offers visible-area and selected-region captures. Mozilla Support describes the feature as a way to capture visible parts of pages or full pages and save or copy the resulting images.
- Open the specific webpage you want to preserve.
- Open the context menu and select Take Screenshot (or use the documented keyboard shortcut).
- Select Save full page, rather than the visible-area option.
- Review the preview, then download the PNG.
- Open the file and check the top, middle, and bottom. Confirm that content loaded and that the screenshot is legible at the scale you need.
A full-page capture is still one page. It will not follow links and create screenshots of the site’s other pages. Long or interactive pages can also behave differently from a static document: content that appears only after scrolling, clicking, or signing in may not be represented as expected. Inspect the image before treating it as a complete visual record.

How do I save an entire webpage as a PDF?
Use your browser’s print or export-to-PDF function on the page you want to save. The exact menu labels and layout controls vary by browser and operating system, so follow the instructions for the browser you are using rather than assuming a particular menu path. Select PDF as the destination or output, save the file, and then inspect it.
- Open the page and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Open the browser’s print or PDF export function.
- Choose the PDF output option if the print dialog offers destinations or printers.
- Save the file, then open it in a PDF viewer.
- Check page breaks, headers, images, tables, and any content that was expanded or hidden on the live page.
A PDF is useful for reading, sharing, printing, and storing a page as a document. It is not necessarily a pixel-perfect image of the browser view: print layout can change spacing, colors, and pagination, and interactive elements may not carry over. If visual fidelity matters more than page-by-page reading, save a screenshot as an image instead. If the page is important evidence or a record, retain the original URL and capture date alongside the file.
How can I download a whole website to view offline?
For a set of linked pages, use a site-mirroring crawler rather than a full-page screenshot. HTTrack documents copying a site into a local directory, rewriting links between saved pages for local browsing, resuming interrupted work, and updating an existing mirror. The result is a local copy assembled by a crawl, not proof that every URL, resource, login state, or dynamically generated view was captured.
Set the crawl scope before starting
Choose the starting address and decide which pages and hosts belong in the copy. Filters can narrow or expand the crawl, but they need to include the pages that lead to the files you want. For example, a filter intended to retain linked PDFs may also need to allow the HTML pages containing those PDF links. If documents or images are served from a separate CDN or host, the crawler may need to be configured to include that host.

- Keep the crawl within pages you are permitted to access and set a respectful crawl rate.
- Decide whether linked documents and other hosts should be included.
- Do not assume a crawl will capture authenticated pages or state generated by clicking through an application.
- For a large or interrupted crawl, use the documented resume or update workflow rather than assuming a partial directory is complete.
Check the mirror instead of trusting its appearance
When the crawl finishes, inspect its log and test the local copy. HTTrack’s interface guide warns that a mirror that looks complete can still have missing images or other resources; its guidance is to read the log before trusting a mirror. Open representative pages offline, follow internal links, and check images, stylesheets, and documents. A successful-looking start page does not establish that the full crawl succeeded.
If a file or page is missing, check the log for failed requests and review the crawler’s scope and filters. A site can use scripts or separate hosts in ways that ordinary link-following does not capture. Adjusting scope may help with external resources, but it cannot guarantee a complete copy of every dynamic or restricted view.
When should you use a web archive?
If your goal is to preserve or replay a browsing experience rather than merely save a page’s appearance, consider a browser-based capture or web-archiving workflow. Webrecorder describes browser capture of webpages and complex interactions, as well as tools for archiving and replaying WARC/WACZ files. This is a better fit for interaction-oriented preservation than calling a screenshot or PDF a complete archive.
HTTrack also documents optional WARC output alongside an ordinary mirror and packaging a crawl as WACZ for replay tooling. Those formats can support archival workflows, but choosing an archive format does not itself prove that all pages, assets, or interactions were captured. Test the resulting archive in the replay tool and verify the views that matter.

For a programmatic screenshot of one URL, ScreenshotNeo accepts a GET request and returns an image or PDF. This captures the requested page; it is not a crawler for every linked page on a site. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your API key and change the URL to the page you want. ScreenshotNeo’s clean-shot options accept cookie or consent banners as a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and MCP clients. Troubleshooting capture problems
The screenshot stops before the page ends
Confirm that you selected the full-page option rather than a visible-area capture. If the page loads more content only as you scroll, an initial capture may not include it. Use a browser or capture workflow that can load lazy content, then inspect the resulting image rather than assuming the page length is complete.
The PDF has awkward breaks or missing content
Print output can differ from the live page. Open the saved PDF and check whether tables, images, or sections were split, omitted, or restyled. If the result is unsuitable, try another output method—such as a full-page image for visual reference—or adjust the browser’s available print settings and export again.

Read the crawler log and identify failed or excluded requests. Check whether the missing resource is hosted on another domain and whether the crawl filters permit it. Then recrawl or update the mirror and test the affected local pages. A mirror’s start page loading successfully is not a completeness check.

A login-only or interactive page is not preserved
Ordinary page capture and link-following crawls do not establish that authenticated content, application state, or every interaction was recorded. Use a capture workflow suited to the required browser session and interactions, and verify the specific states you need. Do not attempt to access pages outside your authorization.
The crawl takes too long or is interrupted
Reduce the scope to the pages you actually need, avoid unnecessarily aggressive request rates, and use the crawler’s documented resume capability where appropriate. For an archive that must be retained, keep the logs and test the resulting local files or replay package after the job completes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Completeness, reliability, and storage checks
No one method guarantees a complete representation of every site. A screenshot is easy to inspect but covers a page, a PDF is convenient to distribute but can reflow content, and a mirror can be browsed offline but may omit resources. Dynamic pages, authentication, external asset hosts, and interactions introduce additional failure points.

- For a screenshot: check that the capture reaches the page bottom and includes content that loads after scrolling.
- For a PDF: inspect every page break and any content whose layout matters.
- For a mirror: review crawl errors, open representative pages offline, and follow their links.
- For an archive: replay it in the intended tool and test important interactions rather than inferring success from file creation.
Large mirrors and archives consume local storage. Keep the crawl logs with the saved files if you will need to diagnose omissions later. If you need to retain or share a capture, keep the capture date and original URL with it so readers can distinguish a saved snapshot from the current live site.

Which method should you choose?
- Choose a full-page screenshot for one page’s visual appearance as an image.
- Choose PDF when the goal is a paginated, shareable document of one page.
- Choose HTTrack or another scoped crawler when you need a locally browsable collection of linked pages, and verify its log and files.
- Choose browser-based web archiving when interaction capture or replay is central to the task; verify the archive rather than assuming every state was retained.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a full-page screenshot include every page on a website?
No. It captures one webpage from top to bottom; capturing linked pages requires a site crawl or separate captures.
Can I browse a PDF offline like the original website?
No. A PDF is a document, not a navigable site copy. Internal links may exist in some PDFs, but the pages and interactive behavior are not thereby saved.
What is WARC or WACZ for?
They are archival formats used in web-capture and replay workflows. They serve a different purpose from a PNG, PDF, or ordinary local mirror.
Should I crawl a site that requires a login?
Only capture content you are authorized to access, and do not assume a crawler will retain login state or authenticated views. Check the site’s terms and your permissions first.
