To save a webpage that extends below the visible browser window, use Chrome DevTools on a computer: open the page, open DevTools, open its Run command, type screenshot, and choose Capture full size screenshot. That command sequence is described in a Google Chrome Help Community answer, not a guaranteed, permanently current Google support procedure. On Android, Chrome has an official More > Share > Long screenshot workflow with adjustable crop handles.
The instructions below cover both platforms, explain what each method can and cannot do, and show an automated alternative when you need repeatable captures.
What “entire webpage” means
A normal screenshot records only the pixels currently visible in the browser window. A full-page capture stitches or renders the page’s scrollable content from top to bottom, including sections you would otherwise have to scroll to see. It is useful for design reviews, bug reports, documentation and archiving, but it is still an image of the rendered page—not the original HTML, an accessibility export or a print-perfect document.
Review the resulting file before publishing it. Pages can contain lazy-loaded images, animations, sticky navigation, personalized content, consent dialogs or sections that change while the capture is being made. The sources for Chrome’s built-in workflows do not promise a universal maximum length, fixed dimensions or identical rendering on every site.
Desktop Chrome: capture the full page with DevTools
Chrome includes DevTools, its web-development toolkit, directly in the browser. The following full-size command is identified in a Google Chrome Help Community response. Google notes that community answers may not be verified or up to date, so treat the labels as guidance and check your Chrome version if the command is missing.

- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
- Open the page. Navigate to the URL you want to save and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Open DevTools. Right-click the page and choose Inspect, or use your usual DevTools keyboard shortcut.
- Open the Run command. In DevTools, open the command menu (the interface may place it behind a command-menu icon or a keyboard shortcut).
- Search for the capture command. Type
screenshot. - Choose “Capture full size screenshot.” Chrome generates an image covering the page rather than only the current viewport.
- Inspect the saved image. Check the top, bottom, images, fixed headers, overlays and any content that loads as you scroll. Crop or reformat it for your destination if necessary.
If the command does not appear
- Confirm that DevTools has focus before opening its command menu.
- Search for full size as well as screenshot; wording can vary between Chrome releases.
- Reload the page, dismiss obstructive overlays and try again.
- Use the Android procedures below if you are working on a phone, or use an automated capture service when you need a repeatable pipeline.
Chrome on Android: use Long screenshot
Chrome’s official Android help describes a built-in long-capture path. It lets you select how much of the page to include instead of automatically saving every pixel.
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Tap More next to the address bar.
- Tap Share.
- Select Long screenshot.
- Drag the crop handles to include the desired portion of the page.
- Tap Confirm, then share or save the image.
The exact menu can depend on your Chrome and Android build. If you do not see Long screenshot, use the system method below or update Chrome and Android where your device supports updates.
Android’s system “Capture more” option
Android’s general screenshot controls support scrolling captures on Android 12 and later for most screens that allow scrolling. This is a device feature, so button names and the initial screenshot gesture differ by manufacturer.

- Display the webpage and take a normal screenshot using your phone’s screenshot controls.
- In the screenshot preview, tap Capture more (some devices show a similar scrolling-capture label).
- Move the crop guidelines until the required page area is selected.
- Save or share the resulting image.
“Most screens” is an explicit limit: a screen that does not expose scrollable content, or an app that blocks the function, may not offer the option. Chrome’s own Long screenshot route is preferable when it is available because it is designed for pages opened in Chrome.
Desktop versus Android: which method fits?

|---|---|---|---|---|
| DevTools full-size command | Chrome DevTools command menu | Attempts a full-page capture automatically | Desktop Chrome | Procedure comes from Chrome Help Community guidance; Google warns community content may not be verified or current. |

Quality checks before you use the image
- Top and bottom: Verify that the first and last sections are present and not cut off.
- Lazy content: Scroll through the page once first if important images or cards load only when they approach the viewport.
- Overlays: Close cookie dialogs, newsletter prompts and chat bubbles when the page owner permits it; otherwise they may appear in the saved image.
- Sticky elements: A fixed header or floating button can be repeated or cover content in a long render.
- State and privacy: Confirm that the capture does not expose account details, personal recommendations, tokens or private URLs.
- Format: PNG is usually best for text and interface screenshots. Crop or resize a very tall image before placing it in a document or presentation.
Common problems and practical fixes
The result contains only the visible viewport
You probably used the operating-system screenshot shortcut or a regular Chrome screenshot command. On desktop, reopen DevTools and select Capture full size screenshot. On Android, use Long screenshot or Capture more rather than the ordinary screenshot action.
Images or sections are missing
Many sites load media as it approaches the viewport. Reload, allow the page to finish loading, scroll through it once, then capture again. If content requires a click, login or consent, complete that state before capturing.

A cookie banner, chat widget or newsletter covers the page
Dismiss the overlay if the site allows it and recapture. If the overlay is part of the page state you must document, leave it visible and note that it affects the image.
The page is extremely tall or the file is unwieldy
Capture only the required range on Android with the crop handles. On desktop, crop or resize the saved image after checking it. For reports, a PDF or a sequence of section captures may be easier to read than one very tall bitmap.
Chrome’s DevTools labels differ
The full-size procedure is community-described rather than an official step-by-step guarantee. Search the DevTools command menu for screenshot-related commands, ensure DevTools is focused, and consult the DevTools interface in your installed Chrome version.

When automation is better than a manual capture
Manual tools are fine for an occasional page. A script or API is more practical when you need the same viewport, device emulation, wait condition, authentication headers or output format on many URLs. It also makes scheduled documentation and regression checks reproducible.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. It is useful when a clean, repeatable full-page result matters: before capture it accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed; response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed.

Reliability, privacy and cost considerations
- Reliability: Manual captures depend on the current browser session and page state. Automation benefits from explicit waits, fixed viewport/device settings and controlled authentication.
- Dynamic pages: Choose a selector, delay or network-idle wait so late content is present before the image is rendered.
- Access controls: Use custom headers, cookies or Authorization only when you are authorized to access the page, and protect API keys.
- Billing: With ScreenshotNeo, only clean shots are billed; the response’s
X-Page-VerdictandX-Billedheaders report the outcome. - Privacy: Review captures for personal data and avoid sending confidential URLs or credentials to services unless your policy permits it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Chrome save a full webpage as a PDF instead of an image?
Yes, Chrome’s print workflow can create a PDF, but that is a document-rendering path rather than the full-size image procedure described here. Use PDF when selectable text and pagination matter; use a screenshot when preserving the visual appearance is the priority.

Only if the browser session is already authorized and the capture method can render that state. Confirm that you have permission to capture and share the resulting image.
Why is a long screenshot different from a normal screenshot?
A normal screenshot records the current viewport. Long or full-size capture extends into scrollable content and may require the browser or device to render additional sections.
