In desktop Firefox, open the page, choose Take Screenshot from the right-click menu (or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS), then select Save full page. Firefox captures content below the fold and lets you download a PNG or copy it to the clipboard. The same result is available through Developer Tools when you need delays, filenames, device-pixel-ratio controls or element selection.
Capture the whole page with Firefox’s screenshot tool
- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait until the content you need is visible.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. On macOS, Control-click opens the context menu. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- In the screenshot bar, choose Save full page in the upper-right corner. Do not choose Save visible; that option captures only the current viewport.
- Choose Download to save the image, or Copy to place it on the clipboard for pasting into another application.
Mozilla documents the downloaded filename pattern as Screenshot [date and time] [page title].png. The file goes to Firefox’s normal download folder. The documented keyboard shortcuts are Command+S or Ctrl+S for saving and Command+C or Ctrl+C for copying. See Mozilla’s current instructions at Take screenshots in Firefox.
Add a toolbar button for frequent captures
- Open the Firefox menu.
- Choose More Tools → Customize Toolbar.
- Drag the Screenshot item onto the toolbar and click Done.
- Open the page, click the new Screenshot button and select Save full page.
What “entire page” means
Save full page stitches the page beyond the visible viewport into one image. Save visible records only what is currently on screen. The screenshot interface can also capture a selected region, which is useful when you need neither the complete document nor just the viewport.
Full-page capture is still a picture of the page at capture time. Content that changes after the capture, requires an interaction, or fails to load cannot appear reliably in the image. Let important sections finish loading, close obstructing overlays, and confirm that the page is in the state you want before saving.

Use Developer Tools for more control
Firefox Developer Tools provide a second full-page workflow. It is useful when you need a repeatable command, a delay for a menu or hover state, a custom filename, a device pixel ratio, clipboard output, or a screenshot of one element.
Enable the full-page screenshot button
- Open Developer Tools with F12 or the browser’s Developer Tools command.
- Open Settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Return to the Developer Tools toolbar and click the screenshot icon. Firefox saves the capture to the browser’s Downloads directory.
The button is disabled by default, so it will not appear until you enable it. The documented workflow is described in Firefox Source Docs: Taking screenshots.
Run the Web Console command
Open the Web Console, type the following command, and press Enter:
:screenshot --fullpage
Firefox’s screenshot command accepts documented options for the clipboard, a delay, device pixel ratio, a filename and a CSS selector. For example, a delayed, high-density capture saved under a chosen name can be written as:

:screenshot --fullpage --delay 3 --dpr 2 --file full-page.png
You can limit the capture to one element with the selector option:
:screenshot --selector "main article"
Use the clipboard option when you want the result copied rather than saved. A delay is helpful when a menu, tooltip or hover state needs time to appear. If you reuse a filename such as test.png, the next capture overwrites the previous file; use distinct names when keeping a series.

Troubleshooting full-page captures
“Take Screenshot” is not in the context menu
Use the platform shortcut instead, or add the Screenshot button through More Tools → Customize Toolbar. Right-click an empty page area rather than a control, image or embedded frame.
The image contains only what I can see
Reopen the screenshot interface and select Save full page. Save visible is intentionally limited to the current viewport.

A menu or tooltip is missing
Open the menu or place the pointer over the control first, then use the Developer Tools command with a delay, for example :screenshot --fullpage --delay 3. Dynamic interfaces may still change while Firefox renders the capture.
The capture is blurry on a high-density display
Use Developer Tools and set an appropriate device pixel ratio with the --dpr option. Larger pixel dimensions create larger files and may take longer to process.
The Developer Tools screenshot icon is absent
Open Developer Tools Settings and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons. The icon does not show until that setting is enabled.
My previous file disappeared
Check Firefox’s Downloads directory and the filename you supplied. Reusing a name such as test.png overwrites the earlier image; choose a unique filename for each capture.

The crosshair will not move on Linux
Mozilla notes that moving the screenshot crosshair does not work on Wayland. Use the documented keyboard movement and selection controls, or use the Developer Tools workflow instead.
Quality, privacy and platform notes
- Capture after the page reaches the state you need. A full-page image does not guarantee that every lazy, interactive or network-dependent component rendered identically to the live page.
- The desktop screenshot feature documented by Mozilla saves an image or copies it to the clipboard; it is not documented as a direct PDF-export control. Use Firefox’s separate print-to-PDF workflow when a PDF, rather than an image, is required.
- Mozilla says Firefox Screenshots records interaction events such as using Copy or Save full page, but does not collect the page URL or details of the captured image. The support page describes controls for disabling add-on data collection and website data collection.
- Firefox for iOS follows a separate operating-system screenshot workflow and has a Save as PDF path. Do not apply the desktop shortcuts or Developer Tools steps to iPhone and iPad; follow Mozilla’s iOS-specific help for that platform.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need captures in a build, script, monitoring job or AI workflow instead of manually opening Firefox, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one request. It accepts PNG, JPEG or WebP output, and its full-page mode loads lazy images. Before capture it accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off.
Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. The service also has an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

Options relevant to automated captures
ScreenshotNeo supports full-page or CSS-selector captures, dark mode, device presets or custom viewports, retina scale, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks before capture, hidden selectors, selector/delay/network-idle waits, ad and tracker blocking, custom headers, cookies, user agents and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, chosen cache TTLs, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. Existing parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify migration.

FAQ
Can I preserve a hover state or open menu in a full-page image?
Yes. Set the state first, then use the Developer Tools command with a delay so Firefox has time to render it. For highly dynamic pages, verify the resulting image because the page can continue changing during capture.
Does Firefox’s desktop screenshot tool create a PDF?
Mozilla’s documented tool produces an image for download or clipboard copying. For a PDF, use Firefox’s separate print-to-PDF command or an automated capture service that offers PDF output.
Can I capture just one article element instead of the entire document?
Use the Developer Tools screenshot command with its CSS selector option, for example :screenshot --selector "main article", and adjust the selector to match the element on your page.
