Use Puppeteer’s page.screenshot() on a page you are authorized to capture. For documentation or testing, start with a public UIDAI information page; avoid capturing authenticated myAadhaar screens containing personal details, credentials, or e-KYC material. The example below saves a full-page PNG, but check the installed Puppeteer version for exact API options.
Capture a public UIDAI page with Puppeteer
Install Puppeteer in a Node.js project, then run this example. It opens UIDAI’s public information site, waits for a network-idle condition, and writes a full-page PNG.

The example is illustrative rather than tested against the live site; a page’s network activity may not reach the selected wait state. Puppeteer’s official Page.screenshot() API documents a default Uint8Array result and a base64-string overload. The API page displayed Puppeteer v25.12.0 when consulted; confirm option names against the version installed in your project.
Choose the right page and wait condition
- Verify the target. UIDAI identifies uidai.gov.in and associated portals, including myAadhaar, as its websites. Capture only a page you are authorized to access.
- Prefer public information pages. UIDAI describes its main site as primarily informational and associated portals as service portals. A service may request an Aadhaar number or VID, mobile number, and OTP; the screenshot method itself does not require those details. Do not automate authentication merely to make an image.
- Set the viewport for the intended rendering. Change the width and height to match the desktop or mobile view you need. Use a page-specific readiness condition:
networkidle2is only an example, not a universal guarantee that all visible content has finished rendering. - Capture and inspect.
fullPage: truecaptures beyond the viewport. Review the resulting image before sharing or publishing it.
Protect Aadhaar information and credentials
A screenshot preserves whatever is visible on screen. Keep Aadhaar numbers and VIDs, OTPs, passwords, account details, demographic information, and private e-KYC contents out of any image intended for sharing. UIDAI’s policy says users are responsible for maintaining credential confidentiality and describes service portals that may involve personal information and authentication. For an authorized internal workflow that genuinely needs an authenticated view, restrict access to the image and redact sensitive details before wider distribution.

UIDAI’s FAQ specifically says service providers shall not share, publish, or display offline e-KYC XML, share codes, or their contents. That statement is directed at service providers; by itself, it does not settle every legal rule for every screenshot situation. Read the UIDAI FAQ on offline e-KYC and apply the relevant rules to your role and use case.
Check attribution and reuse before publishing
UIDAI’s website policy asks that reproduced material remain accurate and not be presented misleadingly, and requests UIDAI acknowledgement and the source-page URL. It also says research or private-study extracts are not for sale or commercial use. Check the applicable policy and any third-party rights before publishing a screenshot; the policy does not resolve every specific licensing question.

No. Without a file path, the documented default result is a Uint8Array; the API also has a base64-string overload.

Can I use this workflow to automate OTP-protected myAadhaar pages?
This guide does not advise automating Aadhaar authentication. Use public pages when possible, and do not capture or share credentials or personal Aadhaar information.
