Chrome does not document a single full-page shortcut: open DevTools, use the Command Menu, then choose Capture a full size screenshot in Device Mode. Decide first whether you need the visible screen or the entire page below the fold.
Choose between a visible and a full-page capture
An operating-system screenshot normally records only the pixels currently visible on your monitor. A browser screenshot tool can capture the complete document, including content you would have to scroll to see. Firefox and Edge also let you select a region or copy the result instead of downloading it.
- Visible viewport: use this for a bug report showing exactly what is on screen.
- Full page: use this for an article, receipt, design review or archive that extends below the fold.
- Selected area: use this when only one panel or part of a page matters.
The procedures below are the documented desktop workflows for current browser interfaces. Shortcut behavior can differ on mobile devices, customized keyboard mappings and future releases.
Firefox: the shortest full-page shortcut
Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot tool opens directly with the keyboard shortcut. Mozilla Support lists the article as updated June 15, 2026: Take screenshots in Firefox.

- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + S on Windows or Linux. On macOS, press Command + Shift + S.
- If you prefer the mouse, right-click the page and choose Take Screenshot.
- Choose Save full page for the entire document, or Save visible for the current viewport.
- Select Download to save an image file or Copy to place it on the clipboard.
Firefox’s full-page mode is useful when the page has content below the current scroll position. The visible option avoids including material you did not intend to share.
Microsoft Edge: full page, selection and markup
In Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + S after opening the page. Microsoft describes the feature at Screenshot Tool in Microsoft Edge.
- Open the target webpage.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + S.
- Choose Capture full page for the complete document, or select an area for a partial capture.
- Use Edge’s markup controls if you need to draw, highlight or add other annotations.
- Copy or save the finished image.
Microsoft notes that screenshot availability and functionality can vary by device type, market and browser version. If the shortcut or label is missing, open Edge’s current help or inspect the toolbar and menu for the Screenshot feature.
Chrome: use DevTools for a full-size screenshot
Chrome’s documented full-page route takes more steps than Firefox or Edge. The Command Menu instructions are in Chrome DevTools Command Menu, and the full-size option is described in Device Mode.

- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Open DevTools with F12, Ctrl + Shift + I on Windows/Linux, or Command + Option + I on macOS. (If your system or browser maps these keys differently, open DevTools from Chrome’s menu.)
- Turn on Device Mode by clicking the phone-and-tablet icon, or use the DevTools control that toggles device emulation.
- Open the Device Mode More options menu.
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot to include content outside the viewport.
- Choose Capture screenshot instead when you need only the current viewport.
To open the DevTools Command Menu directly, press Ctrl + Shift + P on Windows/Linux or Command + Shift + P on macOS. You can then search for available capture commands. Chrome’s full-size command is associated with Device Mode, so opening the Command Menu alone does not replace enabling the relevant DevTools workflow.

This is a comparison of the documented steps, not a hands-on speed or quality test. Firefox has the fewest documented steps for a full-page image; Edge combines selection with markup; Chrome’s full-page method requires DevTools and Device Mode.
When a shortcut appears not to work
The keys do nothing
- Confirm that the browser window has focus, not another application.
- Check whether your laptop uses an Fn layer or has remapped shortcuts.
- Use the browser’s page context menu or main menu to locate its screenshot command.
- For Edge, remember that Microsoft documents the feature as variable by device, market and version.
You captured only the visible area
Choose the browser’s explicit full-page or full-size option. A normal desktop screenshot cannot include content that was never visible in the captured rectangle. In Chrome, use Device Mode’s Capture a full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot.
The result is blank, clipped or missing lazy-loaded content
Wait for the page to finish loading before capturing. Scroll through long pages once if images load only when they approach the viewport. If a site changes while you capture it, close overlays, pause animations where practical and retry. Some pages restrict content to authenticated sessions or render differently at different viewport sizes.

Menus or cookie notices cover the page
Dismiss consent dialogs and popups before taking the image. If the page requires a login, capture it only when you are authorized to view and share that material. Avoid exposing personal data, session identifiers or private messages in the final file.
The shortcut conflicts with another program
Screen recorders, graphics drivers, accessibility utilities and enterprise policies can reserve key combinations. Use the browser menu or DevTools route, then review the conflicting application’s keyboard settings.
Make repeat captures consistent
- Set the browser window or emulated viewport to the same dimensions for each capture.
- Record whether you need a full document, viewport or selected region before starting.
- Allow fonts, images and embedded content to finish loading.
- Use a descriptive filename containing the page, date and viewport.
- Review the image at 100% zoom for clipped text, sticky headers, overlays and sensitive information.
For evidence or visual regression work, retain the original URL and capture date alongside the image. A webpage can change after you save it, so the screenshot is a record of that moment rather than a permanent guarantee that the live page still looks the same.

Can these methods capture a page I must scroll through?
Yes. Select Firefox’s Save full page, Edge’s Capture full page or Chrome’s Device Mode Capture a full size screenshot.
Do I need to buy special hardware?
No. The cited Firefox, Edge and Chrome workflows run on a computer with the browser and require no dedicated capture device.
Why does Chrome require Device Mode?
