How to Capture a Webpage Screenshot in Selenium with an Indian Regional Font

To capture Indian-language text in Selenium with the intended font, wait for the page’s actual content and for its used web fonts to finish loading before saving the screenshot. Selenium can save the current browsing context or a specific element, but a screenshot command does not wait for every JavaScript update or confirm that a font contains the target script’s glyphs.

Capture the page after its content and fonts are ready

This Python example waits for document readiness, then waits for a page-specific element and the browser’s used fonts before taking a screenshot. Replace the example URL and selector with the page and content you need.

from selenium import webdriver
from selenium.webdriver.support.ui import WebDriverWait
from selenium.webdriver.common.by import By

url = "https://example.com"
driver = webdriver.Chrome()
try:
    driver.set_window_size(1365, 900)
    driver.get(url)

    wait = WebDriverWait(driver, 15)
    wait.until(lambda d: d.execute_script("return document.readyState") == "complete")

    # Replace this selector with an element containing the target-language text.
    wait.until(lambda d: d.find_element(By.CSS_SELECTOR, "main .target-text").is_displayed())

    # Wait until fonts used by this document and related layout work are ready.
    driver.execute_async_script("""
        const done = arguments[arguments.length - 1];
        document.fonts.ready.then(() => done(true), () => done(false));
    """)

    driver.save_screenshot("screenshot.png")
finally:
    driver.quit()

Selenium’s navigation readiness condition does not guarantee that later JavaScript-driven content has appeared; use an explicit wait for the text or element that must be captured. See Selenium’s waiting strategies and browser options.

document.fonts.ready resolves after fonts used in the current document and associated layout operations are ready. It does not prove that every declared but unused font loaded, or that the chosen font contains every glyph you need. See MDN’s Document.fonts reference.

Check the intended Indian-language font

“Indian regional font” is not a single font requirement. The correct family depends on the script, the site’s CSS, and whether the font is served as a web font or supplied by the operating system. Inspect the element’s computed font-family in browser developer tools and check that its font request succeeds. Then inspect the screenshot using representative text in the target language.

If the page must use a particular declared face, you can ask the browser to load it explicitly before capturing. Substitute the CSS family name and text actually used by the page:

driver.execute_async_script("""
    const done = arguments[arguments.length - 1];
    document.fonts.load('16px "Your Font Family"', 'प्रतिनिधि पाठ')
      .then(faces => done(faces.length > 0), () => done(false));
""")

The text argument filters font loading by Unicode range; it is not a glyph-by-glyph coverage test. Check the rendered output rather than treating a successful load request as proof that every character is supported. See MDN’s CSS Font Loading API guide and FontFaceSet.load().

Choose page or element capture

Method What it captures Python call
Browsing-context screenshot The current browser context; use it when the visible page or viewport is the intended result. driver.save_screenshot("screenshot.png")
Element screenshot One selected element without requiring the surrounding page context. element.screenshot("element.png")

Selenium documents both page-context and element screenshots. Do not assume the ordinary page screenshot includes the entire document beyond the viewport; confirm the behavior needed for your browser and binding. See Selenium’s screenshot documentation.

Make captures repeatable

Rendering can change with the browser, operating system, installed fonts, and screen size. For comparable output, keep the browser version, operating-system image, font files, viewport dimensions, and device scale factor stable. Set a known window size, as in the example, and inspect the resulting file. Selenium supports local and remote WebDriver execution; keep the environment consistent whichever you use. See Selenium’s windows and tabs documentation and Selenium WebDriver.

Troubleshoot missing or incorrect text

  • Text uses a fallback font: Check the element’s computed font family and the font request in developer tools. Wait for document.fonts.ready before capture, then verify the actual glyphs in the image.
  • Text or layout is absent: Wait for the page-specific element or state, not only document.readyState. Client-side applications can render important content after navigation readiness.
  • Headless output looks different: Set an explicit window size and use a consistent browser and operating-system environment; inspect the saved image for font and layout changes.
  • An explicit font load does not work: Check the CSS family name, declared font face, font URL, and network access. The browser’s Font Loading API exposes load state, but successful loading alone does not establish glyph coverage.
  • The screenshot is the wrong scope: Use an element screenshot for a single target; use the browsing-context method for the current page context. Verify full-document capture separately if content extends below the viewport.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo can return a webpage screenshot with one GET request. Its clean-shot flow accepts consent banners like a visitor and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. ScreenshotNeo also provides an MCP server with screenshot tools for AI agents.

Example cURL request:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the request options and setup. The response is a screenshot, not Selenium code for verifying a particular Indian-script font; check the output when font rendering is critical. ScreenshotNeo offers 1,000 shots per month free with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Learn about ScreenshotNeo or sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does document.fonts.ready confirm that all Indian-language glyphs are supported?

No. It indicates readiness for fonts used in the current document, not glyph-by-glyph coverage. Inspect representative target-language text in the rendered screenshot.

Can I screenshot only a selected page element with Selenium?

Yes. Find the element and call its `screenshot(path)` method; Selenium also provides `driver.save_screenshot(path)` for the current browsing context.
