You can use n8n to pass a webpage screenshot to Jira, but screenshot generation and Jira attachment upload are separate steps. First use a capture method that returns an image n8n can handle as binary data; then send that file to Jira Cloud’s attachment endpoint as multipart form data. Jira requires the file field to be named file and the header X-Atlassian-Token: no-check. Atlassian’s Jira Cloud v3 attachment API documents the upload contract.
What the n8n workflow does
n8n can orchestrate the trigger, data transfer, and Jira API request. Its documentation lists Jira Software among its integrations and describes the HTTP Request node as a way to call APIs when an integration does not expose the operation you need. It does not establish a built-in webpage screenshot operation, so select and verify a capture mechanism separately. See n8n documentation.

- Start the workflow: receive or set the target webpage URL and Jira issue key.
- Capture the page: use browser automation or a screenshot API that can render the URL and return an image file.
- Pass the image onward: confirm the capture output is available to subsequent n8n steps as binary data. The exact property name and configuration depend on the capture method and your n8n version.
- Upload to Jira: send the binary file to the Jira attachment endpoint using multipart form data.
- Check the result: verify the attachment appears on the intended issue.
Treat the capture output and Jira upload as separate integration boundaries. A successful screenshot response does not prove the file was mapped correctly in n8n, and a successful API request should still be checked against the intended issue.
Choose and verify a screenshot capture method
The available integration guidance does not identify a preferred or built-in n8n screenshot node. Before building the upload step, check the current documentation for your chosen capture tool and n8n version. In particular, establish that the capture mechanism can render your target URL and make the resulting image available in a form n8n can pass as a file.

- Output: confirm the returned format, such as PNG, JPEG, or WebP, and how the tool exposes the image bytes or file to n8n.
- Private pages: establish how credentials or authenticated browser state will be supplied. Do not assume a public-URL capture method can access a private Jira or application page.
- Operational behavior: review the capture tool’s timeout and failure responses, and make sure n8n can distinguish an image from an error response.
There is not enough documented detail here to give a verified node-by-node screenshot recipe or a universal binary-property name. Avoid copying a property mapping from a different capture node without confirming its current output.

POST /rest/api/3/issue/{issueIdOrKey}/attachments
Replace {issueIdOrKey} with the Jira issue key or ID for the issue that should receive the image. The request must use multipart/form-data; the multipart file parameter must be named file; and the request must include X-Atlassian-Token: no-check. Configure the n8n API request
Use n8n’s HTTP Request capability for the Jira call if the Jira integration available to your workflow does not expose attachment upload. Configure the request around the API contract above, and consult the current HTTP Request and binary-data documentation for your n8n version before setting exact UI options.

POSTand the URL to your Jira Cloud base URL followed by/rest/api/3/issue/{issueIdOrKey}/attachments. - Authenticate as a Jira user or integration that is permitted to attach files to the target issue.
- Include the
X-Atlassian-Tokenheader with valueno-check. - Send the screenshot as a multipart file field named exactly
file, mapped from the binary output produced by the capture step. - Allow the request mechanism to encode multipart form data. Do not send the image as JSON or manually replace the multipart request with a raw image body.
The exact n8n field labels and binary-property selector can vary by node and version; verify them in the current n8n documentation rather than assuming a universal configuration.
Verify the attachment
After the request, inspect its response for an error and open the specified issue to confirm the attachment is present. Jira attachment settings expose whether attachments are enabled and the maximum permitted size. Project permissions can also restrict attachment creation. Consult Jira Cloud attachment settings documentation and Atlassian’s attachment troubleshooting guidance.

Cloud and Data Center are different deployments
The endpoint above is for Jira Cloud’s REST API v3. Do not assume it applies unchanged to Jira Data Center: Data Center has separate REST documentation and its own permission and deployment context. For Data Center, verify your instance’s base URL, supported API version, authentication method, attachment configuration, and permissions against the documentation for that deployment. Troubleshoot failed captures and uploads
- Jira reports a missing XSRF token or rejects the upload: ensure the request includes
X-Atlassian-Token: no-checkexactly. - The request reaches Jira but no file is attached: check that the multipart field is named
file, that it maps to the screenshot’s actual binary output, and that the request is multipart form data rather than JSON. - The file is too large: compare its size with the maximum shown in Jira attachment settings. Reduce the capture dimensions or output size, or adjust the permitted limit if your Jira administration allows it.
- Jira reports an invalid issue or access problem: check the issue key or ID, confirm the authenticated account can access the issue, and verify it has permission to create attachments.
- The capture step returns an error or unusable content: verify the target URL, capture response format, load/timeout behavior, and binary mapping before troubleshooting Jira. A failed page render is not a valid image to upload.
- The issue cannot accept attachments: check whether attachments are enabled for the Jira site and whether the project’s permission configuration allows the authenticated account to add them.
Atlassian identifies missing XSRF headers, payloads above the configured limit, incorrect content type, inaccessible source files, invalid issue keys, and permissions as common operational causes; consult its Jira Cloud attachment guidance.
