To document an Indian bank net banking page, sign in only through the bank’s verified official website, open the relevant transaction or account page, and use your device’s normal screenshot function. Capture only what is needed, keep the original secure, and redact a separate copy before sharing. Never include a password, PIN, one-time password (OTP), or other security code. A screenshot can support a record or complaint, but it does not by itself establish that a transaction occurred or satisfy every evidentiary requirement.
Before you sign in: verify the bank’s website
Start from the bank’s official homepage or type its known official address into your browser. Before entering credentials, check that the displayed domain is the bank’s genuine domain and that the connection uses HTTPS. Do not reach a login page through an unexpected email, SMS, search advertisement, or pop-up link. CERT-In advises users to type the banking URL into the address bar and check the security certificate and HTTPS indicators; Indian Bank gives similar advice in its online banking privacy guidance.

Use a trusted device and an up-to-date browser and operating system. If the address or certificate looks wrong, stop; do not sign in or capture the page as if it were the bank’s genuine site.

Capture only the information needed
- Open the relevant page. Sign in through the verified site and navigate to the specific account, transaction, or page you need to document. Avoid opening unrelated accounts or exposing extra personal details.
- Check the visible content. Make sure the capture excludes passwords, PINs, OTPs, and other security access codes. Frame enough of the page to make the information understandable, while leaving out unnecessary details.
- Take the screenshot locally. Use your device’s ordinary screenshot function. The official guidance cited here does not prescribe a particular keyboard shortcut, device, or image format; those vary by device and operating system.
- Save the original securely. Choose a descriptive filename and record the date and time, bank, page or transaction concerned, and reason for the capture. These are practical recordkeeping steps, not an official screenshot format prescribed by the bank or authorities.
- End the session safely. Use the bank’s log-off control and close the session. Do not leave a signed-in banking page unattended.
Choose a screenshot or a PDF
A screenshot is a fixed visual record of what appeared on the screen. A browser’s print or save-to-PDF function may be more convenient when you need a page-oriented document. The cited official sources do not prescribe one format over the other. Whichever you use, check the saved file to ensure it contains the intended information and no secrets or unrelated account details.

Keep an original; redact only a sharing copy
Keep the unaltered original in a secure location. If you need to send documentation to someone, make a separate copy and redact identifiers or account details the recipient does not need. Do not overwrite the original with the redacted version. Check the copy after redaction to confirm the concealed information cannot still be read or recovered from the image.
What a screenshot can support—and what it cannot prove alone
The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal lists images among possible supporting evidence, alongside items such as bank statements, online transfer receipts, webpage URLs, videos, and other documents. It advises keeping evidence related to a complaint and providing accurate, complete information. That guidance does not say a screenshot alone proves a transaction or is sufficient for every proceeding. If documenting an incident, preserve relevant related records rather than relying on one image.
