On a Mac, press Shift-Command-5 and choose a window, the full screen, or a selected area. Both methods are built in, so you do not need a browser extension. Before saving or sharing the image, check that it does not expose credentials or unnecessary financial details.
Before capturing a logged-in bank page
- Use a trusted device and private network. Indian Bank advises customers to check for HTTPS and avoid online transactions on public or open Wi-Fi. That is Indian Bank’s published advice, not a statement of every bank’s policy. Confirm that the address is the bank’s genuine site before proceeding.
- Open only the page you need. Close unrelated tabs or windows and frame the relevant transaction, status, or confirmation. Prefer a selected area or window if it avoids including unrelated content.
- Check what is visible. Keep passwords, PINs, OTPs, security answers, full account or card numbers, and other people’s information out of the capture. Indian Bank warns: “Never write down or disclose your user ID passwords or PIN. Bank never asks for user ID/passwords/ PIN/ Card No/CVV.”
- Capture using the operating system controls below. Save the file somewhere private, not in a public or shared folder.
- If you need to share it, redact a copy. Export the edited copy and inspect it at full size to ensure the sensitive digits are no longer visible. Keep an unredacted original secured if you need it for a dispute.
- Log out and close the browser when finished. Do not leave the screenshot in a public or shared location.
Take the screenshot on Windows
Microsoft documents Windows+Shift+S for Windows 10 and 11. It opens the Snipping Tool capture controls.

- Bring the relevant bank page to the foreground and check that no secret or unnecessary identifier is visible.
- Press Windows+Shift+S.
- Choose the appropriate mode, such as rectangular, window, or full-screen capture.
- Select the relevant area or window. For a transaction record, a selected region usually reduces exposure of unrelated information.
- Save the snip using the on-screen controls, then verify the saved image before sharing it.

- Press Shift-Command-5.
- Select full-screen, window, or selected-area capture, then capture the relevant content.
- Save the file in a restricted folder rather than a shared photo or cloud location if it contains account details.
- Open the saved image and verify it before sending it to anyone.
Can you screenshot an online banking page?
The available guidance does not establish one permission rule for every bank or every logged-in page. A bank’s terms and technical controls may differ. If the page or device blocks screenshots, or the bank’s terms say not to capture it, do not try to bypass that restriction. Ask the bank for an approved statement, confirmation, or evidence route.

The cited operating-system workflows cover Windows and Mac desktop computers. They do not establish how capture behaves on every Android or iOS device, browser, or bank app.
Protect the screenshot after capture
Limit what the file reveals
A screenshot is financial data if it contains transaction or account information. Crop to what is needed, redact sensitive fields on a copy when sharing, and make sure the exported copy does not still reveal the underlying digits. Do not send passwords, PINs, or OTPs as part of a screenshot or separately.

Keep evidence handling clear
If the image may matter in a dispute, preserve the original securely and note how and when it was captured and handled. RBI’s report on information systems security and controls in banks says, “Digital evidence needs to be considered as similar to any other form of legal proof,” and emphasizes integrity, documented handling, and suitable authentication. That guidance does not mean a consumer screenshot by itself proves a dispute or will be conclusive.

How do I screenshot a bank transaction without showing my account number?
Frame only the transaction details needed. If you must redact the number, edit a copy and inspect the exported image at full size before sharing it.
