For an automated screenshot of a Cloudflare Access-protected page, authorize the capture request with an Access service token and send the token’s client ID and secret in the documented headers. Cloudflare Browser Run’s screenshot Quick Action accepts custom request headers and session cookies, then renders the page before capturing it. Use a valid CF_Authorization cookie only for a one-off capture from an existing authorized session; use a controlled browser session when the task needs interactive login steps. These methods are for pages you are authorized to access.
Choose the right authentication method

Cloudflare Access authorizes a user session with the CF_Authorization cookie. Automated clients can instead authenticate with service-token headers when the application’s policy allows them. A service token is not a way around Access policy: the application must permit it.

Set up a service token for automated captures

Ask the Cloudflare Access administrator for the protected application to create a service token and add a matching Service Auth policy. Follow the organization’s current Access configuration and permissions.

Record both the token’s client ID and client secret in an approved secret manager. Cloudflare displays the newly created secret only once; do not commit it to source control, expose it to page content, or include it in logs. See Cloudflare’s service-token guidance.

Send the credentials as
CF-Access-Client-IdandCF-Access-Client-Secretrequest headers to the screenshot endpoint. Use the protected page’s full URL, including its path and query string where needed. -
After capture, verify that the image shows the intended protected content, not an Access login or denial page. A successful screenshot response alone does not prove the correct page was captured.

Its REST API requires Cloudflare API-token authentication with Browser Rendering Edit permission; the documentation also describes direct use through a Cloudflare Worker browser binding. Cloudflare Browser Run’s /screenshot Quick Action accepts custom request headers. The following is a request pattern for the documented endpoint. Supply your Browser Run account’s API authentication as required by Cloudflare, and replace the protected URL and secret values. Do not place real credentials in a shared script or terminal history.

The documented default image type is PNG. The quality option requires a compatible image type.
Use a session cookie for a one-off capture
If you already have a valid authorized user session, the Quick Action can send its CF_Authorization cookie with the capture request. Treat the cookie as a bearer credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to act as that session until it expires or is revoked. Avoid logging it, sharing it, or hard-coding it into source.

Cookie lifetime follows the Access session duration configured for the application. Cloudflare says the default is 24 hours when neither relevant duration is configured; actual expiry depends on the application’s settings. A cookie from an expired or otherwise invalid session will not authorize the capture. See Cloudflare’s authorization-cookie documentation.

When a browser session is a better fit
A single Quick Action request suits a page that can be authorized with headers or a cookie. If the workflow must fill a form, click through a login flow, or perform other interactive steps before capture, use a Browser Run session controlled through Playwright, Puppeteer, or CDP. Cloudflare’s getting-started guide covers browser sessions. Keep any credentials used by that workflow in protected storage and limit access to the session.
Troubleshoot incorrect or failed captures
