The quickest way to capture an entire webpage as a JPG is to use a browser’s full-page screenshot, then convert the result when the browser saves PNG instead. Microsoft Edge has a built-in full-page Screenshot tool; Firefox’s built-in tool captures the full page but downloads PNG; and Chrome users need a third-party extension for documented full-page JPG export. The correct choice depends on whether you need a one-off image, direct JPG output, or repeatable automation.
What counts as a full-webpage JPG?
A normal screenshot records only the pixels currently visible in the browser window. A full-page capture stitches or renders the content below the fold as one tall image, including sections you would have to scroll to see. The final file is a JPG (also called JPEG), a compressed format that is convenient for sharing and publishing.
Full-page capture is not the same as printing a page to PDF. A JPG is a raster image: text and graphics become pixels, links are not clickable, and very long pages can produce large files. If you need selectable text, hyperlinks, or selectable page ranges, PDF is usually a better deliverable.
Microsoft Edge: built-in full-page capture
Edge’s Screenshot feature can capture content below the visible viewport, let you inspect the result, and save or copy it. Microsoft notes that availability and functionality can vary by device, market, and browser version.

- Open the webpage you are authorized to capture.
- Right-click the page and choose Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows.
- In the Screenshot overlay, choose the control for a full-page capture rather than a visible-area selection.
- Wait for the complete image to render. Inspect the top, middle, and bottom for missing sections or duplicated content.
- Use the overlay’s save command. If the saved file is not already JPG, convert it with the steps below.
Converting Edge’s result to JPG
Open the saved image in an editor that supports JPEG export. Choose Export or Save as, select JPEG/JPG, set a quality level appropriate for your use, and retain the original capture until you confirm the converted file opens correctly. For text-heavy pages, a high quality setting reduces blocky artifacts around small type.
Firefox: full page first, JPG conversion second
Firefox’s built-in Screenshot tool explicitly downloads a PNG file, even when you select the full page. It does not directly produce a JPG.
- Open the page in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty area and select Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Select Save full page in the screenshot controls.
- Choose Download. Firefox saves an image with a
.pngextension. - Open that PNG in an image editor and export it as JPG.
Why the PNG-to-JPG step matters
Renaming page.png to page.jpg does not convert the image; the file remains PNG data and may fail to open in software expecting JPEG. Use an actual export or conversion command. If ImageMagick is installed, a typical conversion is magick page.png -quality 90 page.jpg. The quality value is a choice, not a guarantee of a particular file size or visual result.
Chrome: use an extension when direct JPG export is required
Chrome’s documented route for full-page JPG output is a third-party extension. The GoFullPage Chrome Web Store listing describes full-page capture and saving compressed JPG files. Install extensions only when your organization permits them, review the permissions, and treat the listing as a description of capability rather than a guarantee that every site will capture perfectly.

- Install the extension only after checking its publisher, permissions, and privacy terms.
- Open the target page and start the extension’s full-page capture command.
- Let the extension scroll or render the page, then choose JPG at export if the extension presents a format choice.
- Open the resulting file and check that the bottom of the page is present and that fixed headers, videos, and lazy-loaded images look acceptable.

Firefox Developer Tools: a second built-in route
Firefox Developer Tools can capture an entire page from the screenshot toolbox button or the Web Console’s :screenshot helper. The documented output is PNG, so convert it to JPG afterward.
- Open Developer Tools and locate the screenshot camera/toolbox control, then choose the option to capture the full page; or open the Web Console.
- In the console, use
:screenshot --fullpage. - Download the resulting PNG and convert it through an image editor or a real image conversion command.
Developer Tools also supports --selector for capturing one selected page element. That is useful for a long article section or a product card, but it is not a full-webpage capture.

For a private, occasional capture, use Edge or Firefox and convert the image when needed. For Chrome, an extension is the practical route when direct JPG export matters. For many URLs, scheduled jobs, or an application workflow, an API avoids browser setup.

Make a full-page JPG capture reliable
Wait for lazy-loaded content
Many pages load images only as they approach the viewport. A capture that starts too soon may contain empty image boxes. Scroll through the page once before capturing, wait for visible images to finish loading, and check the lower sections in the final image.
Handle sticky headers and repeated elements
Fixed navigation bars can appear repeatedly or cover content while a tool scrolls. If the result duplicates a header, try the browser’s native tool instead of an extension, disable the fixed element with an allowed custom style, or capture the page in sections and assemble them in an editor. Do not remove branding or content you are not authorized to alter.
Expect problems with interactive content
Carousels, videos, live dashboards, cookie dialogs, chat bubbles, and animated banners can change while the page is being captured. Dismiss overlays where you have permission, pause animation when possible, and capture at a stable state. A JPG cannot preserve interaction or playback.
Plan for very long pages
A full-page image can become extremely tall and memory-intensive. If the browser fails, reduce the page’s complexity, close unrelated tabs, capture logical sections, or deliver a PDF instead. Do not assume that a successful preview means every image editor or messaging service can open the final dimensions.
Protect private information
Review the complete image before sharing. Full-page captures can include account names, email addresses, hidden footer links, internal URLs, or content below the fold that was not visible during the initial review. Capture only pages and data you are authorized to reproduce.

The capture stops at the visible viewport
You selected a visible-region or window screenshot instead of full-page mode. Reopen the tool and choose the full-page control. In Firefox, select Save full page; in Developer Tools, use --fullpage.
Firefox saved PNG, not JPG
That is expected behavior. Firefox documents PNG output. Export the downloaded file as JPEG with an image editor or a real conversion utility.
The bottom of the page is blank
The page may use lazy loading, require a delay, or have content that appears only after interaction. Scroll through the page first, wait for network activity to settle, and capture again. For an automated workflow, use a tool that can wait for a selector, a delay, or network idle.
A cookie banner or chat bubble covers the image

The extension cannot capture a protected page
Enterprise policies, login requirements, cross-origin restrictions, or extension permissions can prevent capture. Confirm that you are signed in, that the page allows reproduction, and that your organization permits the extension. Never bypass an access control you do not own.
The JPG looks blurry or text has blocks
JPEG compression is lossy. Export at a higher quality, capture at a larger viewport or retina scale, and avoid repeatedly opening and resaving the same JPG. For archival text fidelity, keep the original PNG or use PDF.

The file is too large to share
Resize the image after capture, lower JPEG quality moderately, or split an exceptionally long page into sections. Keep an untouched original so you can produce a higher-quality version later.
FAQ
Does a JPG screenshot preserve clickable links?
No. A JPG contains pixels only. Preserve the original URL separately or provide a PDF/HTML copy when readers need working links.
Can I capture a page that requires a login?
Only if you are authorized and the capture tool can access the authenticated session. Review the resulting image for private data before storing or sharing it.
Is JPG better than PNG for webpage text?
Not always. JPG usually creates smaller files, while PNG keeps sharp text and flat graphics without lossy compression. Choose JPG for compact sharing and PNG when exact text edges matter.

Can I capture an entire webpage on a phone?
The documented workflows here are desktop Edge, Firefox, and Chrome workflows. Mobile availability can differ by device and browser version, so check the controls on the specific device before relying on it.
What should I deliver when a page is hundreds of screens tall?
Ask whether the recipient needs an image at all. A PDF is often easier to navigate and print; if JPG is mandatory, capture sections or resize the finished image while retaining the original.
