Choose the output first: use a browser’s full-page screenshot when you need one tall image that preserves the page’s visual layout. Use print preview and Save to PDF when you need a paginated document for printing, sharing, or archiving. They are different workflows and can produce different results.
This guide covers Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Chrome’s documented community route, iPhone browsers, and an automated API option for developers.
Full-page screenshot or PDF?
A full-page screenshot stitches content below the fold into one image. It is useful for design reviews, visual evidence, bug reports, and preserving exactly how a page looks in a browser. The result is normally PNG, JPEG, or another image format.
A PDF is a document generated through print layout. It breaks content across paper-sized pages and may change fonts, spacing, colors, navigation, or hidden elements. Print preview usually gives you controls for page range, orientation, scale, margins, headers, footers, and background graphics.

| Need | Best route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One tall visual copy of the webpage | Browser full-page screenshot | Preserves the on-screen composition as an image. |
| Printable or paginated document | Print preview → Save to PDF | Creates a conventional PDF with page and margin controls. |
| Whole webpage on an iPhone | Firefox Full Page or Safari’s PDF save flow | Both provide documented iPhone workflows, with different output controls. |
Firefox on Windows, Linux, or macOS
Save the entire page as an image
- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for the content you need to finish loading.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page.
- Download the image, or copy it to the clipboard if you want to paste it into another application.
Firefox’s full-page screenshot is an image export, not a PDF export. If you specifically need PDF, use the separate print procedure below.
Save the rendered page as a PDF
- Open the Firefox menu and select Print.
- In print preview, set the destination to Save to PDF.
- Choose the page range, orientation, paper size, scale, and margins.
- Open advanced settings to review simplified versus original formatting, headers and footers, and background printing.
- Preview every page, then save the PDF.
Simplified formatting can remove page elements and background styling. Websites can also define print-specific CSS, so a page may look different on paper than it does on screen. Mozilla’s guidance cautions: “Web pages can set themselves up to appear different on paper to how they look on screen, so don’t be surprised if there are differences.”
Microsoft Edge
Capture a full webpage as an image
- Open the page in Edge.
- Open Screenshot from the right-click menu, the Settings menu, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Select the option to capture the full page rather than a selected region.
- Use the overlay to add markup if required, then copy or save the screenshot.
Edge’s tool can capture content that requires scrolling, including long or moving webpages. Microsoft notes that availability and behavior can vary by device, market, and browser version. The documented tool saves or copies a screenshot; it is not described as a direct PDF exporter.
If you need a PDF in Edge
Use Edge’s print command, select a PDF printer or Save as PDF, check the preview, and adjust page size, orientation, scale, margins, headers, footers, and background graphics before saving. If the PDF must match the screen rather than print styling, create the full-page image first and convert that image to PDF in a separate document tool.

A Google Chrome Help Community answer describes a DevTools route: open DevTools, use the command menu, and run Capture full size screenshot. Because this is community guidance rather than official Chrome documentation, treat the exact command and output as version-dependent.
- Open the target page.
- Open DevTools with F12, Ctrl+Shift+I (Windows/Linux), or Command+Option+I (macOS).
- Open the command menu and search for Capture full size screenshot.
- Run the command and verify that the downloaded image includes content below the fold.
If the command is unavailable, use Chrome’s print preview for a PDF or choose another browser with a documented full-page capture feature.
iPhone methods
Firefox for iOS: full-page screenshot saved as PDF
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Take an iPhone screenshot with the hardware buttons: volume-up plus side button, or side plus Home on iPhones with Touch ID.
- Tap the screenshot preview.
- Select Full Page.
- Tap Done, then choose Save as PDF.
This produces a PDF rather than a standalone image. Confirm the page range and file location after saving.
Safari on iPhone: Share and save as PDF
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Open the page menu and Share (the Share button can appear at the top or bottom, depending on the tab layout).
- Choose Markup.
- Tap Done, then choose Save File To.
- Name the document, select a location, and save it.
Safari’s flow is designed for a PDF document. It does not create the same kind of single tall image as a desktop full-page screenshot.

Or skip the browser setup
For repeatable captures, scripts, or server-side workflows, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one request. Its capture options include full-page rendering with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, device presets and custom viewports, dark mode, retina scale, custom CSS and JavaScript, click-before-capture actions, selector hiding, waits for a selector, delay, or network idle, request and resource blocking, cookies and headers, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, caching with a chosen TTL, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, usage reporting, and PDF paper, margin, orientation, and page-range controls.
Before capture, it accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. ScreenshotNeo also provides an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
cURL
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for authentication and options. The basic request is:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`HTTP ${res.status}`);
const data = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
require('fs').writeFileSync('shot.webp', data);
The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; every feature is included on every plan, and yearly billing provides two months free. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

Quality and reliability checklist
- Wait for images, fonts, and client-rendered sections before capturing. A screenshot taken while a page is still loading can omit content.
- For print-to-PDF, inspect every page in preview. Adjust scale, margins, orientation, paper size, and background printing before saving.
- For long pages, look for sticky headers, fixed chat buttons, lazy-loaded images, and animations that can overlap or repeat.
- Use a full-page image when visual fidelity matters; use PDF when text selection, pagination, and printing matter.
- For automated jobs, set an explicit timeout and a wait condition, and cache stable pages when repeated captures do not need a fresh render.
Troubleshooting
The full-page option is missing
Check that you are using a supported desktop browser and current version. Edge availability can vary by device, market, and version. In Chrome, the full-size command is community-documented and may change. Try Firefox’s documented shortcut or use print preview for a PDF.
The PDF has unexpected page breaks
Return to print preview and change paper size, orientation, scale, margins, and page range. Compare simplified and original formatting, and enable background printing when color or background sections are essential.
The PDF looks unlike the webpage
Print CSS may intentionally change the layout. Use a full-page screenshot for a visual copy, or disable simplified formatting and review the original-format print preview.
Images or sections are missing
Wait for the page to finish loading and scroll through it once to trigger lazy content. For scripted captures, wait for a known selector, a delay, or network idle. Check that popups or consent dialogs have not blocked the page.
An automated capture returns a blank page or bot check
Verify the URL, authentication, cookies, headers, and user-agent requirements. ScreenshotNeo identifies bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, and timeouts in its response and does not bill those unsuccessful captures.

FAQ
Can I turn a full-page screenshot image into a PDF?
Yes. Open the image in an application that supports printing or export and choose a PDF destination. The resulting PDF will contain the image, not selectable webpage text.
Does a PDF preserve links from the webpage?
It depends on the browser’s print implementation and the page’s markup. Verify links in the saved document rather than assuming that every visual link remains clickable.
Which method is best for recurring website archives?
Use an automated capture service or script with explicit waits, authentication, and storage rules. Browser menus are better for occasional manual captures.
