For a quick capture, use Firefox’s built-in full-page screenshot; for repeatable captures, use Playwright’s fullPage: true option. Sticky or fixed navigation may repeat or overlap content in some capture implementations, so inspect the finished image. If it does, temporarily disable or hide the navigation for the capture, then restore the page.
Capture a full page in Firefox
Firefox can capture the entire page without installing an extension. Enable the screenshot button in Developer Tools if it is not already available.
- Open Developer Tools and open its settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Use the screenshot button in the Developer Tools toolbar to save the full page. Firefox can save the image to Downloads.

Firefox’s :screenshot helper also supports a delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, clipboard copying, and capturing an element by CSS selector. See the Firefox screenshot documentation and Firefox DevTools tips for details. If you capture again using the same filename, Firefox warns that the new image will overwrite the old one.
Capture the full page with Playwright
For automated or repeatable captures, Playwright’s page screenshot option can include the full scrollable page. The browser must first be open on the target page.

Playwright describes a full-page screenshot as capturing the entire scrollable page as if it fit on a very tall screen. To capture just one element instead, use a locator screenshot:

Check how sticky navigation appears
There is no universal rule that a sticky header will repeat in every full-page screenshot. Some capture implementations that scroll through a page can include fixed navigation or ads repeatedly in the resulting image. Dynamic content loading near the bottom can also produce overlaps. Those behaviors have been described for particular implementations, not established as inevitable in current Firefox or Playwright.
- Open the saved image and check the full length of the page, not just its top.
- Look for navigation repeated at intervals, content hidden beneath a bar, overlap, or missing sections.
- If the bar repeats or obstructs content, use Developer Tools to inspect the navigation element. Temporarily disable its sticky or fixed positioning, or hide it with a temporary CSS change, then capture again.
- Restore the original page styling after the capture. The CSS workaround is a practical troubleshooting option, not a guarantee for every site or capture method.
Pay particular attention to pages with sticky headers, ads, lazy-loaded images, or infinite scrolling. A page that changes as it scrolls may need time to load before the capture, and the output should be checked for missing or shifted content. Evidence about repeated fixed elements and overlap comes from a specific scrolling-capture implementation described in a University of Tartu thesis; it should not be taken as a description of every browser’s current behavior.

- Full-page: Use it when you need the whole scrollable page in one image, then inspect the result for sticky elements or dynamic-content problems.
- Element capture: Use a CSS selector in Firefox or a locator in Playwright when you need a particular section without the rest of the page.
- Manual or automated: Firefox is convenient for a one-off capture; Playwright is suitable when the same capture needs to be repeated in code.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
- The screenshot button is missing in Firefox: Open Developer Tools settings and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons.
- The sticky bar appears several times: Inspect the image. If needed, temporarily change the bar’s sticky or fixed positioning or hide it in Developer Tools, recapture, and restore the styling.
- Content overlaps or is missing: Check whether content loads as the page scrolls, especially near the bottom. Wait for it to appear before capturing and verify the saved image.
- A new Firefox capture replaced the previous one: Give the next capture a different filename; Firefox warns when a repeated filename will overwrite an existing image.
- You only need one section: Capture an element by CSS selector with Firefox’s screenshot helper or use Playwright’s locator screenshot method.
