In Firefox, right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot, then choose Save full page. If the resulting image is too large to handle, capture only the part you need or lower the screenshot’s pixel dimensions with Firefox Developer Tools. A full-page image still contains the whole captured page; reducing its dimensions trades away detail, and no particular file-size reduction is guaranteed.
Capture the full page in Firefox
Use the screenshot tool
- Open the page in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty part of the page. On Mac, you can Control-click instead.
- Choose Take Screenshot.
- Choose Save full page.
- Choose Download to save the image in Firefox’s configured download folder.
The screenshot tool also offers Save visible, a region selection, and automatically highlighted page-part capture. Those options are useful when you do not need every section in one image. Mozilla documents these choices in Take screenshots in Firefox.

Open the screenshot tool with a shortcut
Use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on Mac. Then choose Save full page and download the result.
Make a full-page image more manageable
Capture less content
Before shrinking the image, decide whether you truly need the whole page. Use Save visible for the current viewport, select a region for one section, or capture a highlighted page part. If one specific component is the subject, Firefox Developer Tools can capture that element and its descendants using a CSS selector.

Lower the pixel dimensions in Firefox Developer Tools
- Open Firefox Developer Tools and select the Web Console.
- Enter
:screenshot --fullpage --dpr 0.5and press Enter. Replace0.5with the pixel-ratio value you want to try. - Open the saved image and check small text, labels, and other details at the size at which people will view it.
Mozilla documents --fullpage for the whole page, --selector for a CSS-selected element and its descendants, and --dpr for adjusting device pixel ratio. Values below 1 produce what Mozilla describes as “zoomed-out” images. A lower ratio means fewer pixels and less fine detail; the documentation does not promise a particular file-size reduction. Capture a selected element instead
If the page has unrelated navigation, sidebars, or other material that makes the image unwieldy, target the relevant element rather than the full page. For example, replace .article-content below with a CSS selector that matches the content you want:

Set a delay or filename when needed
The screenshot helper supports a delay, which may help when you need a menu or hover state to be visible, and a custom filename. The --filename option expects a .png extension. Consult Mozilla’s command documentation for the supported syntax before using these options.

Choose the right output for the job
- Need every section in one image: save the full page, then consider a lower device-pixel ratio if the dimensions are impractical and the reduced detail remains readable.
- Need only one section or component: use a region, highlighted page part, or CSS selector. This avoids including unrelated material.
- Need a document that is comfortable to read or print: consider whether a paginated PDF is more suitable than one tall image. Browser-specific PDF steps are not covered here.
- Need full detail: keep the original pixel dimensions and accept that the output may remain large; check the saved image before sharing it.
Chrome: use the documented area-capture route
In Chrome DevTools, open the Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+P on Mac. Type screenshot and choose Capture area screenshot to capture a selected portion. The Chrome documentation cited here confirms the Command Menu and area-capture action, but does not establish a current full-page command. See Run commands in the Command Menu.

Check the result and troubleshoot common problems
- The image is still unwieldy: capture a region or selected element, or lower the device-pixel ratio. These choices reduce scope or detail; inspect the result at its intended viewing size.
- Small text is hard to read: raise the pixel ratio or capture only the relevant section at more detail.
- Some content appears missing: inspect the saved image. Dynamic content, embedded material, animations, and independently scrolling areas may not appear as expected in a full-page capture. Try capturing the relevant area separately.
- The Firefox command does not target the content you need: verify the CSS selector matches the intended element, or omit
--selectorto capture the full page. - The Chrome menu does not show a full-page option: the documented Chrome instructions here establish area capture, not a full-page command. Use Firefox’s documented full-page workflow or confirm the current Chrome DevTools documentation for the exact command.
