To save a public article as one long image, open it in Firefox, choose Take Screenshot, then select Save full page. In Chrome, capture the full article node in DevTools, or use Chrome Headless to save a screenshot or PDF. Check the result and keep the article URL and capture date with it: a screenshot records how a page rendered, but does not by itself verify who published it or when.
Choose an image or a PDF
Use a full-page image when you want to preserve the article’s visual appearance in a single file. Choose PDF when a document is easier to read, share, or print. Whichever format you use, inspect the saved file to make sure the headline, article text, and relevant video or still image appear as intended.

Capture the whole page in Firefox
Firefox’s built-in screenshot interface
- Open the public article in Firefox and allow its text and media to load.
- Open Take Screenshot from the browser’s page actions or context menu.
- Select Save full page, rather than Save visible.
- Save the resulting image, open it, and inspect the headline, body, and relevant video or still image.
Mozilla documents the distinction between Save full page and Save visible in its Firefox screenshot instructions. The exact interface can vary by browser version.

Capture the article in Chrome
Chrome DevTools: capture a page element
Chrome DevTools can capture a selected page element beyond the visible viewport. Open DevTools, inspect the element containing the article, then use Capture node screenshot. This is useful when you want the article area rather than unrelated page regions. After saving, verify that the chosen node includes all the article sections you intended to capture.
Chrome Headless: save an image
Chrome Headless documents the --screenshot and --window-size options. For example, from a terminal with Chrome available as google-chrome:

google-chrome --headless --screenshot=article.png --window-size=1440,1000 "https://example.com/public-article"
Replace the example URL with the article’s public URL. This command captures a screenshot using the selected window dimensions; do not assume that setting a large viewport guarantees a complete full-page image. Inspect the output and use the DevTools full-node method or another full-page workflow if the page extends beyond the capture.

google-chrome --headless --print-to-pdf=article.pdf "https://example.com/public-article"
Its --timeout option sets a maximum wait before capture, even if the page is still loading. A timeout is not a guarantee that delayed or dynamically loaded media has finished appearing. The available command-line options are described in the Chrome Headless command-line reference.
Check dynamic content and preserve context
- Wait for the article and its relevant media to appear before capturing. Long pages and pages that load content as you scroll may not render completely in the first view.
- Open the saved image or PDF rather than relying on the capture command’s success message. Look for missing sections, repeated content, blank areas, or awkward page breaks.
- Keep a note of the article URL and the date you captured it alongside the file. This helps identify the source and capture time later.
- If the article changes, a screenshot preserves only the appearance captured at that moment; it does not show later versions.
A screenshot is a record of a browser rendering. The browser capture documentation describes capture mechanics; it does not establish that the image authenticates authorship, proves the article’s original publication date, verifies a viral video, or satisfies any jurisdiction’s evidentiary rules.

Troubleshooting
The file shows only the visible portion
In Firefox, make sure you chose Save full page, not Save visible. In Chrome DevTools, check that you used Capture node screenshot on the article element rather than capturing a visible viewport. With Headless Chrome, the documented --window-size sets viewport dimensions; inspect the output to see whether it covers the full page.

Wait for the media to load before capture, then inspect the result. Some pages load material only after scrolling or after a delay, and the cited browser documentation does not guarantee identical results on every dynamic page. If an embedded video itself is not captured, a screenshot may show only its player or still frame.

The PDF has unexpected page breaks
Open the PDF and check where the article splits. A PDF is a paginated document, not a single long image, so its layout may differ from the page as displayed in the browser.
The command-line capture seems incomplete
Check the target URL, wait behavior, and saved file. Chrome Headless’s --timeout limits the wait before capture; increasing or setting a wait does not prove that all site-specific content has loaded. Re-run after confirming the page is ready, and inspect the output each time.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo can capture a public page with one API request. Its clean-shot steps accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with the outcome identified in response headers. ScreenshotNeo also offers an MCP server with screenshot tools for AI agents.
