For a page that loads or reveals content as you scroll, do both things: scroll through the relevant content to trigger the page’s behavior, wait for a page-specific signal that it has appeared, then capture the full page. In Playwright, fullPage: true controls the screenshot’s extent; it does not guarantee that real scrolling or every scroll-triggered load has happened.
Why a full-page screenshot can still miss content
A full-page screenshot captures the scrollable document as one tall image. It is different from moving the page’s visual viewport down the screen. That distinction matters when a site loads images near the viewport, reveals sections on scroll, or fetches more items as you reach the end.

A Playwright feature issue describes cases where off-screen content is rendered for a full-page capture without the real viewport scrolling that a site may rely on. Lazy-loaded images or iframes, IntersectionObserver-driven loading, scroll-triggered reveals, and virtualized lists are among the possible problem cases. This is a reported class of behavior, not a guarantee that every page or browser will behave the same way (Playwright issue #40941).

- Actual scrolling can trigger code that creates, reveals, or replaces content.
- A readiness check confirms the content you need is present before capture.
- Inspecting the image helps catch missing images, absent sections, duplicates, or content that changed mid-capture.
Playwright: scroll first, then capture the full page
Playwright’s screenshot option fullPage: true captures the full scrollable page rather than only the current viewport (Playwright screenshots guide; Page API). For pages that depend on actual scrolling, first move through the relevant area and wait for an outcome specific to that page.

This pattern assumes the page has a visible footer whose appearance is meaningful for your capture. Replace the locator and readiness condition with signals that match the page you are capturing.

Do not treat a fixed delay or a particular scroll distance as universal. Playwright documents bringing a bottom element into view to prompt an infinite list to load, using page.mouse.wheel(), and changing the scrollTop of a chosen scrolling element (Playwright scrolling documentation).
Python equivalent
The same sequence works with Playwright’s Python API; full_page=True is the Python option for capturing the full scrollable page.

For an infinite feed without a footer, repeat a deliberate scroll-and-check cycle. Look for newly loaded items, an explicit end marker, or another page-specific completion condition. Stop when the expected content is present or the site indicates there is no more to load; avoid assuming a universal number of scrolls or wait duration.

If the content is inside a nested panel, scroll that panel rather than the document. Playwright’s scrolling guide documents direct changes to a selected element’s scrollTop as well as wheel input. Use whichever matches the site’s actual scrolling behavior, and verify that the intended panel—not the surrounding page—has moved.
Make dynamic screenshots repeatable
Playwright supports a screenshot stylesheet for hiding or modifying dynamic elements (Page API). This can help stabilize a test image, but it changes the rendered appearance and cannot make content appear if it never loaded. Keep such styling separate from captures where fidelity to the page is important.
Firefox Developer Tools: a manual full-page capture
For a one-off image, Firefox Developer Tools includes a full-page screenshot control. Mozilla’s documentation describes enabling it and saving the result in the browser’s Downloads directory (Firefox screenshot documentation).

- Open Firefox Developer Tools.
- Open Developer Tools Settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- If the page needs real scrolling to load content, scroll through the relevant parts first and wait for them to appear.
- Use the enabled full-page screenshot button, then inspect the saved image.
The full-page control captures the page but is not documented as triggering every site’s scroll-dependent loading. The same scroll-first check therefore applies to this manual method.

Choose a capture method that fits the page

The key decision is whether the content already exists in the document or appears only after the page or a nested container is scrolled. In either case, use a condition tied to the expected content and inspect the final image.
Troubleshoot missing, stale, or repeated content
Lazy-loaded images are blank
Scroll the page or relevant container so the images approach the viewport, then wait until the images you need have loaded before capturing. A full-page image alone may not have triggered the site’s actual scroll behavior.
A section or list items are missing
Confirm that the page has been scrolled far enough to trigger the section or next batch, and wait for a page-specific signal such as the expected item count or an end marker. For a nested scrolling area, target that container rather than the document.
The capture contains repeated or outdated content
Check whether the page replaces items while scrolling, whether the capture started before the final content settled, and whether the scroll operation targeted the correct element. Wait for the page’s own completion condition, then inspect the image for duplicated sections or stale content.

A fixed delay does not solve it
A delay only waits; it does not necessarily trigger scroll-dependent work or prove that the right content loaded. Prefer an observable condition tied to the page. The Playwright documentation describes scrolling primitives, not one universal wait time or distance for all sites (scrolling documentation).
The screenshot looks altered after using a stylesheet
Remove or narrow the screenshot stylesheet if fidelity matters. Playwright’s screenshot styling option can hide or modify dynamic elements, but it is a presentation change rather than a loading fix (Page API).

Check the image before relying on it
Compare the saved image with the content you expected: confirm that the relevant images and sections are present, the feed reached its intended end, and no areas were duplicated or left stale. Official capture APIs explain how to request a full-page image; they do not guarantee that every site’s dynamic content will load correctly in every case.

Not reliably. Full-page capture sets the output extent; scroll-dependent site behavior may require actual scrolling first.
How can I tell when an infinite feed is ready to capture?
