For a paginated record that is easier to read or print, use Chrome’s print preview and save as PDF instead. Check the saved file: neither method guarantees that every dynamic or hidden item will appear exactly as it does on screen.
Capture the full page in desktop Chrome
- Open the exact official page. Check the domain and page title before capturing, especially if you reached it through search. Avoid sponsored results or lookalike sites for government records.
- Let the page load. If content appears only as you scroll, scroll through the page once, return to the top, and then capture. This is a practical step, not a guaranteed solution for every site.
- Open DevTools. Press Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Option+I on Mac.
- Open the command menu. Press Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Shift+P on Mac. Search for screenshot, then select Capture full size screenshot.
- Review the downloaded image. Inspect it from top to bottom for missing sections, blank areas, clipped sticky navigation, repeated elements, or text that is too small to read.

Choose an image or a PDF for your purpose
A full-page screenshot is a visual snapshot, not a paginated document. It may be very tall and awkward to read or print. For a record intended for reading or paper output, open Chrome’s print dialog with Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+P on Mac. Review print preview and choose Save as PDF where available. Inspect the saved PDF: page breaks, backgrounds, navigation and dynamic content may differ from the on-screen page. Chrome Help: Print from Chrome
Capture a long page on Android
Chrome’s Android help describes a separate extended-capture workflow. Open the page, tap More > Share > Long screenshot, adjust the crop handles, and confirm. Keep a useful, verifiable record
- Keep the page URL and capture date with the image so a reader can identify what was captured and when.
- If the image may be used as evidence, retain the original file unedited; put annotations on a separate copy. This is practical recordkeeping, not a statement about legal admissibility.
- Remember that a screenshot records a rendered visual state. It does not guarantee inclusion of hidden content, every interactive state, or content that failed to load.

A screenshot can help preserve how a page looked, but it does not make the content searchable or accessible by itself. GIGW’s accessibility guidance calls for meaningful text equivalents for images and other non-text content, and OCR actual text for scanned PDFs. Troubleshooting
- The full-size command is missing: Check that DevTools is open, open its command menu, and search for “screenshot.” The available Chrome workflow’s label can vary; confirm the current wording in your version.
- Parts of the page are blank or missing: Wait for loading to finish. If sections load on scroll, scroll through once, return to the top, and try again. Inspect the result; this may not resolve content controlled by scripts or interactions.
- The screenshot is too tall or text is hard to read: Use print preview and save as PDF for a paginated reading copy, then check page breaks and appearance before sharing.
- The Android capture ends too soon: Adjust the Long screenshot crop handles before confirming; the workflow is user-adjusted rather than guaranteed automatic capture of the entire page.
