How to Capture a Full-Page Screenshot in Windows 11

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fastest method: open the webpage in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page, then save or copy the image. This captures the page below the fold, not just the part currently visible on your monitor.

If you need a picture of the Windows desktop, an app window, or a selected rectangle instead, use Snipping Tool. Its full-screen mode captures the current display; it does not scroll through a webpage.

What “full-page” means in Windows 11

A full-page webpage capture stitches or renders content that requires scrolling, including sections below the browser window. That is different from a full-screen desktop screenshot, which records only the pixels currently displayed. Microsoft documents Edge’s Screenshot tool for full webpages and Snipping Tool for visible screen, window, and rectangular captures.

Capture an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge

  1. Open the page in Microsoft Edge and wait for the text, images, and other content you need to load.
  2. Press Ctrl+Shift+S. Edge opens its Screenshot tool. If the shortcut does nothing, open the Edge menu and choose Screenshot (the exact menu position can vary by release), or check the page’s context menu for that command.
  3. Select Capture full page. Edge captures the page beyond the visible viewport; Microsoft describes this as capturing everything without scrolling. See Microsoft’s [Screenshot Tool in Microsoft Edge](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/features/screenshot) and [learning-center instructions](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/learning-center/screenshot-webpage?msockid=00ded53da9b36e6a2f03c3bea8fd6f73a2f03c3bea8fd6f73).
  4. Review the result, then use the controls shown by Edge to save it or copy it. Choose a location and file name you can identify later.

The exact save control and image format can change as Edge updates. If the page contains content that appears only after scrolling, let it finish loading before you start; otherwise the capture can omit that material.

When Edge is the best choice

  • You already browse the page in Edge and want a built-in tool with no extension.
  • You want one command for a complete webpage rather than a series of screen snips.
  • You need to copy the resulting image as well as save it, subject to the controls shown in your Edge version.

Use Firefox’s built-in full-page capture

Firefox provides a comparable workflow. Open the page, then either right-click an empty part of it and select Take Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S. In the screenshot toolbar choose Save full page. Mozilla says you can download the image or copy it to the clipboard; its instructions are in [Take screenshots in Firefox](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/take-screenshots-firefox), updated June 15, 2026.

Firefox is a practical alternative when the site behaves differently in Edge or when you prefer its explicit download and clipboard controls. The shortcut is shared with Edge, so use the right-click route if the key combination is intercepted by another application.

Why Snipping Tool is not a scrolling webpage capture

Windows 11’s Snipping Tool is appropriate for a visible region, an application window, or the whole screen currently displayed. Microsoft’s [Snipping Tool instructions](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/use-snipping-tool-to-capture-screenshots) document rectangular, window, and full-screen snips. A full-screen snip does not automatically scroll a long webpage and combine its off-screen sections.

  1. Open Snipping Tool from the Start menu (or use your configured Windows screenshot shortcut).
  2. Select the mode that matches your need: rectangular area, window, or full screen.
  3. Capture the visible content, then annotate, copy, or save it using Snipping Tool’s controls.

Use Edge or Firefox instead when the requirement is “the entire webpage,” such as a long article, terms page, dashboard, or documentation page.

Prevent missing content before you capture

Long pages often use lazy loading, embedded frames, or infinite scrolling. A browser may not capture every region in the same way on every site.

  • Wait for initial loading: do not start while the tab is still fetching images or scripts.
  • Trigger lazy content: scroll through the page once if images or sections appear only when they approach the viewport, then return to the top and capture again.
  • Check nested scrolling areas: a dashboard may have a panel with its own scrollbar. That panel is separate from the page and may not be included in a normal full-page result.
  • Watch infinite feeds: a page that keeps adding items as you scroll has no fixed endpoint. Capture the loaded portion, or use a purpose-built export or print function when one exists.
  • Close obstructive overlays: cookie dialogs, newsletter popups, and chat panels can cover content. Dismiss them before starting.
  • Keep the tab stable: avoid changing zoom, resizing the window, or navigating while the capture is being assembled.

These precautions improve results but cannot guarantee that every dynamic or embedded region will be captured. Browser behavior depends on how the site is built.

Troubleshooting full-page captures

Ctrl+Shift+S does nothing in Edge

Another application or browser customization may be consuming the shortcut. Open Edge’s menu and look for Screenshot, or use the page context menu if it is offered. Check that Edge is current and try again in a new tab. Menu labels and shortcut behavior can change between releases.

The result stops at the visible screen

Confirm that you selected Capture full page, not a region or visible-page mode. Let the page finish loading, then retry. If the lower content is inside a separately scrolling frame or appears only after scrolling, load that content first. A different browser can be a useful diagnostic, but no built-in tool is documented to handle every page structure.

Images or sections are blank

Reload the page, wait for images to resolve, and scroll through once to trigger lazy loading. If an image is blocked by a login, cross-origin policy, an ad blocker, or a failed network request, the screenshot tool cannot recreate it. Capture after signing in when appropriate, and avoid exposing private data in files you share.

A cookie banner or chat widget covers the page

Accept or reject the consent choice, close the banner, and dismiss chat or newsletter overlays before capturing. If the overlay returns on every reload, use the site’s preference controls or a capture method that can remove those elements.

The page is extremely tall or wide

Large captures can take longer to render and produce files that are difficult to open or share. Consider capturing a meaningful section, using the site’s print/PDF export, or saving several logical sections with clear names. Keep the original page URL and capture date with the file for reference.

Firefox’s screenshot command is missing

Use the right-click method and select Take Screenshot. If it is absent, confirm you are right-clicking the page rather than a form control or embedded frame, and update Firefox. Mozilla’s documented workflow is available in its support article linked above.

Quality, privacy, and file-management checks

  • Verify the bottom: open the saved image and confirm that the final section, footer, and any expected legal text are present.
  • Check readability: a very long image may display tiny when scaled to fit. Crop or split it for presentations while retaining the uncropped original.
  • Protect sensitive information: full-page images can include account names, email addresses, order numbers, tokens, or internal URLs that were below the fold. Redact before sharing.
  • Record context: store the source URL, date, browser, and whether you were signed in. Dynamic pages can change after the capture.
  • Use the right output: an image is convenient for chat and issue reports; a PDF or the site’s own export may be better for printing and searchable archives.

Or skip the browser setup

For repeatable captures, CI jobs, documentation builds, or many URLs, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before capture it can accept the cookie/consent banner and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response reports the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

Frequently asked questions

Does a full-page screenshot capture content behind a login?

Only content the browser session can access. Sign in first, and remember that the saved image may contain private information.

Can I capture a webpage that changes while it loads?

You can try after the page reaches a stable state, but dynamic updates, infinite scrolling, and separately scrolling frames may produce incomplete or inconsistent results.

Is a full-page screenshot the same as printing to PDF?

No. A screenshot is a raster image of the rendered page. PDF output uses document layout and can be more suitable for printing or text search.
